12.01.2022 The countdown is now on to celebrate the return of migrating whales to Albany waters at the LiveLighter Welcoming the Whales Festival 2019, Saturday 1st June 10...am to 2pm. Following on from the success of the previous two year's events, the LiveLighter Welcoming the Whales Festival 2019 is fun for all ages with whaley great family activities to enjoy. It all kicks off at 10am with live music, ocean awareness displays and talks, and delicious food. Plus, join in the official festival opening and welcome to the whales at 10.30am. After the opening, the musical entertainment and festival fun continues all the way through to 2pm. Spread throughout the Historic Whaling Station grounds, the festival features roving entertainment from Southern Edge Arts performers and music from The Albany Shantymen, The Shantylillies, Alison Parade and The Mist Music. The SoulSea Mermaids will make an exclusive appearance at 12pm to delight children with their presence, hear mermaid wishes and provide photo opportunities. Expanding on the festival's Ocean Awareness theme there will also be an installation of four whale sculptures. These sculptures feature whales which visit our coast line each year and have been decorated by local schools using plastic debris found on our beaches. For those a little older there will be displays and special guest presenters including Marine Biologists Dr Harriet Paterson and Kirsty Alexander, Greenskills, Keep Australia Beautiful and Parks and Wildlife Service. Live_Lighter Welcoming the Whales Festival 2019 is a community event proudly supported by Healthway, Discover Albany Foundation, Keep Australia Beautiful, The Amazing South Coast and GWN7.
