02.01.2022 Communication and education are key when concerning recyclability and waste, however it's impossible to spread a cohesive message when infrastructure and processing capabilities differ from one council to the next! Multi-laminate cartons (like that pictured below) are not recyclable in many areas, as the different materials used within the carton make it difficult to separate into individual component layers (paper/card, aluminium, and plastic). Many material recycling facilities (MRFs) do not have the infrastructure to properly sort aseptic cartons into the correct material stream, in order that they undergo hydra-pulping to allow separation of the aluminium and plastic components from the paper layer.
