25.01.2022 Our children exploring literacy using a combination of illustrations and prior knowledge of characters to create and expand on their favourite stories.

25.01.2022 This week we have been learning about the universe across the whole service. Children lead the activities through meaningful conversations, learning about the planets in our galaxy and trying to see them through a telescope, exploring rockets and making an astronaut suit. Educators enjoyed scaffolding children's learning through all the planned and spontaneous activities.

24.01.2022 We have extended our Platypus children's interest in sensory play with exploring textures. We experimented using paint and sand. The children poured sand into the paint and watched as the texture changed from wet and slimy to hard and rough. This experience then inspired children to dip the rim of buckets and cups into the mix and to transfer the shape circle onto a mirror wall. The children have learnt about the circle shape in previous month's activities and it was interesting to see they have remembered how to do circular prints on the wall.

19.01.2022 Our toddlers have been learning counting, colours and shapes through different games that develop and enhance children's logical, mathematical, visual and spacial cognitive abilities. Children also practiced their fine motor skills and dexterity by picking up, moving and fitting different shapes/objects together.

16.01.2022 To take full advantage of the warmer weather, the Platypus children have been enjoying some water play experiences outside using the sprinkler. Some of the children discovered that the water was reaching the sandpit and turned this into another play activity using wet sand. Some of the other children were using the sprinkler to fill up their cups and buckets.

16.01.2022 Our 2021 uniform are now out for all our educators including a new Indigenous shirt designed for us by WearIt here in Coffs. The design incorporates images of hands for learning and wisdom and shadow hands that represent children and our centres as the meeting place. This year, to help our sustainability efforts all our staff have a multi use stainless steel drink bottle to keep hydrated and cool when nurturing the little ones.

11.01.2022 As we wave goodbye to the year that was, we thought as a way of our teams getting together and to celebrate the effort, commitment and dedication to families put in by every single one of our educators and support staff, that a lunch was in order. Over the last few weekends each of our centres were treated to cocktails, wine and fine food at Latitude Restaurant here at the harbour in Coffs. Apparently great time was had by all! We wish all our staff and families a Merry Christmas as we welcome in a new very different year.

09.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks the children have participated in singing and dancing to Christmas carols, reading Christmas stories and the favourite thing by far has been creative making festive decorations for their rooms and to take home.

09.01.2022 Our babies being curious learners examining the cylindrical shape by turning it around, tasting it and looking through it before plunging it into paint and stamping the mirror observing the emerging circle pattern. Some decided to paint the ground as well as each other enjoying the texture of the paint.

07.01.2022 Our Joey children have been practising their fine motor skills while exploring a tinkering board made by one of our families. The children enjoyed the challenging aspects of this board while helping and supporting their peers along the way.

05.01.2022 As you can see from the faces of our Dingo and Joey room children, they have thoroughly enjoyed an outdoor sensory experience with jelly-like slime. They added a variety of 'ingredients' to the mix over the course of the week to explore how they feel covered in slime.

01.01.2022 Exploration of senses with slime. Our babies have enjoyed investigating the feeling of slime running through their fingers and toes. Some children used utensils to mix the slime, whilst others went straight in with their two hands letting it run between their fingers. Some examined their hands afterward to see what was causing the new slimy feeling.
