17.01.2022 This week is National Road Safety Week. Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 44,000* are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic injury is the biggest killer of Australian children under 15 and the second-biggest killer of all Australians aged between 15 and 24. ... NRW is an important reminder to take time to evaluate your safety on the road - both as a road user, and an employer. Just remember that a vehicle used for work purposes is a work location and you must ensure you have processes in place to keep your workers safe. You should implement a Safe Driving Procedure, Pre-start checks of all company vehicles, and ensure your workers are licenced to operate the vehicle they are driving. 11.01.2022 Changes to asbestos regulation (QLD): From 1 May 2021, low-density asbestos fibre board (LDB), also known as asbestos insulating board, is now classified as a friable material in all circumstances. This means LDB can only legally be removed by a class A asbestos removal licence holder. If you’re a class B asbestos removal licence holder and want to be able to remove LDB, you need to apply to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for a class A asbestos removal licence.... These changes will also affect businesses and tradespeople who carry out maintenance and service work involving LDB installed in buildings and plant or equipment prior to 31 December 2003. Carrying out work involving LDB will be prohibited unless the task is one of the following and the work is done in the way specified by a regulator-approved method: - repairing damaged LDB - painting LDB - drilling a hole in LDB - moving LDB ceiling tiles - installing or removing fixtures or fittings. All workers performing these tasks must be trained in how to identify and safely handle asbestos-containing materials and how to do the work safely. You can review the safe methods to undertake the work here: https://www.asbestos.qld.gov.au//low-density-asbestos-fibr

05.01.2022 Its Feel Good February! Feel Good Feb was created to encourage and inspire people to initiate random acts of kindness for their fellow community members. There has been extensive research to prove that ‘giving out good’ not only benefits the receiver but also increases the happiness of the giver. There’s mental happiness and physical benefits for all involved. It is a win-win situation! 2020 was a really, REALLY, hard year. Let's have the intention and take the time to simpl...y ‘lift the vibe' of everyone around us. One random act of kindness (RAK) can bring a smile to someone’s face. No matter how big or how small your RAK is, you will be helping make someone’s day that much better. You can literally change their life just by being kind. Then in turn, maybe they will do a kind deed for someone else. Kindness will flow organically, creating a ripple effect of happiness. Let’s counteract the negative by being proactively positive!

05.01.2022 Hilarious! But seriously, are your staff sh*tting in the van? I know what your thinking... it's common sense. Sorry mate, it doesn't exist anymore. ... You need to make sure any training and instruction is easy to understand - especially for anyone whose first language is not English or has additional needs such as literacy and hearing difficulties. You need to: - undertake induction and workplace safety training for new workers - train workers for the specific tasks they will have to perform - commit to appropriate supervision of workers - support regular refresher training. Ensure you record the training in some way and keep the records in your employee files. So, keep your vehicles sh*t free, keep your instructions and training clear! And remember - keep records for butt coverage - if there isn't a record it didn't happen.
