25.01.2022 Test Post 2, with images.

17.01.2022 A while back we were fortunate enough to travel around Uzbekistan and visited some amazing Islamic brick structures. The fired clay brick was most likely a Mesopotamian invention. One would generally associate bricklaying with building and architecture but a recent camping trip to Newnes outside of Lithgow NSW made me realize the bricklayers skill is not only about architecture. These abandoned structures coke ovens and are amazing

15.01.2022 At long last, Oikos Architects now has a website. It includes information about us, a selection of projects that we have completed over the years, as well as a section all about architectural process. Feel free to drop in and have a look. http://oikos.com.au/

15.01.2022 Before restoration and repairs and water to a St Mary's Church Balmain East. It was a great opportunity to see the work of skilled trades close.

10.01.2022 Occasionally we find interesting building techniques still in place long after changes have been made. This is internal lead lined gutter to drain the centre of a complex internal roof arrangement to an 1855's house in Balmain East. It drained to a rainwater head on the outside of the wall. All the roof has been re-pitched but they left the old gutter in place probably fo simple expedience. Nonetheless it is still there to tell the storey.

04.01.2022 We have been investigating the history of Waterview House in Balmain and come across this sketch of early Balmain by the colonial architect Edmund Blacket. Blacket lived in Balmain for several years and we are fortunate to several examples of his work. The sketch is undated. Balmain has almost a rural charm. The image is from the state library of NSW in the blacket collection. http://digital.sl.nsw.gov.au/delive/DeliveryManagerServlet

02.01.2022 A recently completed project was a very rewarding experience with a great builder, a very experience landscape designer and that magic essential ingredient an appreciative client.
