22.01.2022 We Boobs (long post alert) #NationalBreastfeedingWeek There is so much pressure on new Mums. You need to heal your body, probably feel like you’ve got some extra kg’s to lose, may have other kids that still need you, adjusting to a reduced family income, a partner who also needs you, your sleep deprived... and I haven’t even got to the baby. Then there is the pressure of breastfeeding, which in my experience, we mothers mostly put on ourselves. For some women breastfeedin...g comes naturally and the milk flows out of them like a tap (insert envy face). However, I can honestly say that breastfeeding my 3 babies has been the most challenging times of my life. Battling on through supply issues, judging my performance as a mother on my babies weekly weight gain, mothers guilt after failed labours ending in caesarean driving a determination not to stuff this up too, and living weeks where I felt like I either had a baby or a breast pump wrenching at my nipples hasn’t been easy. But life isn’t easy and sometimes giving is receiving. To be able to give my babies as much breast milk as I could make in those first 6 months so they had the best start in life I could offer them has given me back so much as I appreciate my own determination, persistence and selflessness in challenging times, as well as developing a newfound gratitude and respect for my body. Zac and I are 8 weeks into our journey and fortunately it’s now getting easier and I’m hoping we can make it through to 12months but I’ve also learnt to be kinder to myself and to accept that I can only do what I can do, and that is enough. If we don’t end up making it to 12months that’s ok, I’m still a good mother who has done their best, like any mother would. Us mummas need to remember to be kind to ourselves for you are the greatest gift you could ever give your babies and your family. The special feeding moments like this are priceless... 17.01.2022 It’s sad that we cast ideals of perfection not only on ourselves but also onto our fruit and veg. Nobody’s perfect, and that’s ok. The same can be said for a nobbly carrot, dull apple or short zucchini. Buying direct from the farmer is always best but sometimes it just isn’t practical. So for us, we choose to rescue adorable apples, crazy carrots, playful pears and zany zucchini’s from going to waste by purchasing #OddBunch at our local #Woolworths. We cut or peel off the lumps and bumps and they are just as delicious. Just ask Zac, he loves his odd bunch purées. And all that plastic packaging (which I’m not a fan of) it goes straight into the soft plastics recycling. Save some fruit and veggies. These guys ‘dream of being tasted, not wasted’ and help reduce #FoodWastage while supporting Aussie farmers at the same time.

15.01.2022 Mountain Pose (#Parvatasana) aka Downward facing dog (#AdhoMukhaSvanasana) All over body stretch. Oxygenates the brain and rests the heart. Detoxifying inversion. Strengthening and helps prevent osteoporosis.... I often see people in class striving to achieve the ‘perfect’ pose they see in pictures. Rounding their spine in an effort to press their heels to the floor. There is no perfect pose, it’s about working with your body to find the right pose fit just for you. Here’s my tips for finding your mountain pose... Using hands to set your foundation (fingers spread, weight evenly distributed. Use fists if you have weak wrists) Sit bones high, straight spine Relax the head so your gaze looks toward your legs - long straight neck. Press down through the feet evenly, bend knees if you need to. BREATHE - long, deep, full breaths and feel your body expand and contract with your breath. Hold for a min or more, whatever feels right for you. 08.01.2022 During term 4 of school I had the pleasure of teaching yoga to a lovely group of teachers. It was a new group of students for me, and I was a new teacher for them. It took time for us to all get to know each other. For me to learn where they are at in their practise physically and mentally, and for them to let go of expectations and open to a different teaching style. Every yoga teacher is different, every group of students is different. Open your heart and your mind and, in a little bit if time, you will find your groove together. Thankyou my after school yoginis for being open to my teaching and for being so grateful for it.
