19.01.2022 Investigating pond life - After the rain today, and if we were very quiet, we were able to listen to many different types of frogs singing to each other. Our little group of children collected some of the pond water to see what else may live in the pond. We made some amazing discoveries! Our children are also investigating what happens when yucky rubbish is found in the pond. How did the rubbish get there? How does rubbish affect the pond life? Lots of questions to explore. 18.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I love the idea of an edible garden and our Kangaroo Room has helped with this. Our children picked their broad beans they had grown and brought them in for me to add to our lunch meal. I secretly disguised them in our lasagna chopping them ever so finely . Broad Beans have had abit of a bad rap over the years for being a bitter bean. The trick to the broad bean is to double peel them and when double peeled they are a beautiful nutty tasting bean vibrantly green not grey like if they are only peeled once much like an edamame bean so if you like edamame please give the humble Broad bean another chance .

18.01.2022 This year has been full of uncertainty and unpredictability. To celebrate Early Childhood Educators Day and enjoy a little relax time, the boss exchanged a staff meeting for a Yoga session at The Yoga Room Bunbury. It was awesome! Feeling relaxed and ready for a great Friday

17.01.2022 This year's featured Moodjar. The Moodjars that drew our eye this year is this bright cluster along Robertson Drive. As we head into Birak season, so we are s...eeing the flowers of the Moodjar Tree (Nuytsia or Christmas Tree) start to change into their vibrant yellow to orange. The flowers of this sacred tree are traditionally gathered, fermented, and made into a light alcoholic brew. Noongar knowledge tells us that when you see the flowers at their most vibrant is around the hottest time of year (summer). They are also very special as Aboriginal people say the trees were a transit point for spirits of those who have passed away. The Christmas tree mainly obtains water and mineral nutrients from its hosts. The roots of the Nuytsia attach themselves to roots of many nearby plants and draw water and nutrients from them. If you are not careful, they will also attach to other things, such as underground cables. Noongar people traditionally made use of the Christmas Tree during the season known as Kambarang, which is around October to early December, obtaining bark to make shields. The gum that exudes from the wound can be collected later. It is sweet and eaten raw.

16.01.2022 Come and borrow a nature book this week to read to your little one- The purpose of the inaugural Nature Book Week is to create awareness for the people in Melbourne who are in lockdown and cannot be out in Nature. We are celebrating being allowed to read about nature even if we cant be out in nature.

15.01.2022 Feeling spoilt today! Thankyou Orla

14.01.2022 Our bush play program extends inside as well. Opportunities are provided for children to develop their fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and dexterity ready for school next year. Today we used leaves to create some beautiful pictures of different leaves and flowers. We had to hold the crayon sideways and rub it across the page, then we used our other helper hand to hold the leaf still underneath the paper.

11.01.2022 Boating in the Outdoor Classroom creek - With a big shove, He pushed his boat into the river. His plan, executed perfectly with a fishing rod in hand as he stepped in and sat down. With a careful eye, it wasnt long before his search for fish was fulfilled. He cast his rod, a rather nifty stick, and began to reel in one, two, and a third fish. Well done - fish for dinner!

11.01.2022 As part of our food waste reduction program, our children take certain food scraps daily and put them in our compost tumbler and give it a big spin. However some scraps are not suitable for the compost tumbler so that waste is given to some of our families with chooks. Today we received some pics of some lovely chookies enjoying those scraps. Thankyou Sophie and Olivia for sharing

09.01.2022 We loved painting on cling wrap! We could look through at our friends and even paint their face, without getting any paint on them. We enjoyed that way the paint brushes slid on the plastic and the way it moved if you pushed too hard. When the plastic was all covered with paint - we just added another layer

09.01.2022 During the initial planning process of transforming Online Child Care Centre into OLCC Bush Kids, a great deal of time went into choosing and selecting an appropriate logo that would reflect our vision and Centre philosophy. The logo we chose to represent Bush Kids is the Wattle. September 1st celebrates National Wattle Day. As the Wattle is an important part of the identity of our Centre we have been exploring Wattle with the children this month.
