08.01.2022 Recent digging in the West End for the Pipes for Fremantle project has uncovered some of the original jarrah block road surface dating back to the late 1890s! T...he blocks were inspected and recorded by the project's archaeologists and then covered back up, with the new pipes rerouted to prevent any damage. Up until WW1, Jarrah was WA's biggest export with the blocks used to pave the streets of cities such as London and Berlin. 07.01.2022 Shawn Lewis was around 12 years old when he created this design. Drawing on a favourite memory, he painted a family in a bus. Where are they driving? To a local Aussie rules football game or out hunting? Mobility is a big thing out on the lands; with people travelling vast distances to see family, go to the footy, go out on country to hunt and care for it, or to a funeral. Cars have enabled people in remote communities to be more connected. This design has proved timeless and... very popular with adults and kids alike. - Image: 101-20. Shawn Lewis. 03.01.2022 Posted @withregram @artsourcewa The Rawa Titungarala auction is well and truly underway! We are loving the quirky, playful one-off, original designs by Warakurna Artists - these 'Kamurlpa' come from Eunice Porter. - All works are box-framed and ready to hang. Have a look at her work through the auction page and book to come in for a viewing! 81-20. Eunice Porter. Kamurlpa. 2014. 500mm x 500mm. Acrylic on canvas.... Since 2014, artists have been experimenting with ideas and designs through the Ngurra Streetwear Project. The focus every year is to create print-ready designs, which utilise fashion as a canvas to express self, Ngaanyatjarra culture and life in a remote community. In addion to having the opportunity to see their works immortalised on street-wear, artists learn hands-on skills in graphic design, layout, and merchandising. While not all designs can be printed, the hard-copy one-one designs serve to document the process, and the exploration of different themes. This featured design of a group of camels running is a recurring subject in Eunice Porters work generally. . Online auction, viewing bookings and program available until 31st July, 2020 at Old Customs House. For more information visit: artsource.net.au/rawa .
