25.01.2022 You can create an entrance to your home that's elegant and inviting with just a few simple elements - and a classic black & white octagon & dot is an ideal place to start. Using this perennial tessellated favourite as your foundation, add some subtle warmth to the walls, a smart timber sidetable, plus flowers, and you'll have a space that's welcoming, and a floor that's strong, beautiful & easy to maintain. 25.01.2022 The more 'in fashion' you are today the more 'out of fashion' you are tomorrow. The key is to keep it simple, and take inspiration from those classic materials and ideas that have stood the test of time. Here we have a simple gloss white subway tile laid in a traditional herringbone pattern combined with a hexagonal mosaic floor featuring a classic starburst motif - for some visual lift. The band of yellow mosaics in the niche echoes the yellow in the floor. It's all about harmony and balance. Discover more classic mosaic patterns and colours: bit.ly/oet-mosaic

19.01.2022 It's often said that a man's best friend is his dog. Less well known is that a dog's best friend is a vitrified porcelain floor - and a tessellated one, like this black octagon & dot from Olde English Tiles, is their first choice: slip-resistant, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant (after all, accidents DO happen), and easy to clean. One thing that furry friends absolutely love is under-floor heating, and with Winckelmans vitrified porcelain that's not a problem either. So, when it comes to flooring, doesn't your best friend deserve the best? You might like them too. @bobbis_adventures_

15.01.2022 This elegant bungalow in Sydney's inner west is a fascinating exercise in stylistic contradictions, with Victorian and Federation details co-existing in every part of the facade - from the wrought-iron gate, the tuck-pointed brickwork, turned timber verandah posts & fretwork valance, the Art Nouveau leadlight panels in the door and transome - all typical of Federation homes - to the Victorian cast-iron fence & posts, the white neo-Classical stucco frieze & panels, and the lavish Victorian-style tessellated pathway & verandah (the Manchester pattern with a modified Norwood border). Despite the stylistic stew, the owners have managed to skillfully and sensitively integrate the many diverse elements into a harmonious whole.

15.01.2022 Always a pleasure seeing new mosaics rolling hot out of the oven first thing in the morning.

14.01.2022 The owners of this Victorian cottage in Sydney’s inner west made a bold and inspired decision regarding the colour choice for their tessellated pathway and verandah by turning the Victorian approach to colour on its head. Where red traditionally dominates accented with blue, they have reversed the conventional aesthetics making blue dominant, accented with red. The result has been to catapult the classic Glasgow pattern and Norwood border out of the 19th century and squarely into the 21st.

05.01.2022 Simplicity, durability, ease of maintenance and safety are the key practical considerations. So often we get caught up in attending to the latest fashion, be it a product, a colour or a look, e.g. "How to turn your drab laundry into a Moroccan oasis". Next season it will be something else. By following these trends we lose a sense of self, of who we are and what works for us. When decorating your house listen to it - it will often tell you what it needs, and heed your instincts. And whatever you choose, ensure it is durable, safe and easy to maintain. Simple!

03.01.2022 This late 19th century cottage in Newtown has been lovingly maintained and restored by the owners, who wanted to revitalize the verandah and small pathway by replicating the original tessellated pattern. They bucked the current vogue for tessellated floors in black/white/grey neutrals by opting for the original earthly colour palette as well. Despite the relative narrowness of the verandah, the owners have cleverly chosen a pattern - the Bristol, with a modified Toorak border, that perfectly suits the proportions of the space and adds a touch of luxury to the otherwise modest facade.

02.01.2022 Our encaustics are ideal for a wide variety of commercial and domestic locations - whether the pathway of a Victorian terrace, the riser tiles or fireplace surround of a Federation bungalow, the waterline of a swimming pool, or the entrance to a stylish boutique, we have patterns for every situation. Printed on strong, durable, slip-stain-scratch resistant, full-bodied porcelain, these locally manufactured encaustics can be customised to your specific requirements.
