17.01.2022 Olde Patchart Day aka OPD _ #oldepatchartday F-f-f-feathers.and F-f-f-freebie! * Hmmmmmm first off I have always thought of this block as ‘Pine Burr’.... I found when researching my quilt previously that BB’s bible identified this block as ‘Double Pineapple’ #2992 or even ‘Pineapple Cactus’ #2996. Note my antique quilt is a variation with a four patch block in the centre. But hey it’s my quilt, so for all intents and purposes: ‘Pine Burr’ quilt block it is! * I drafted my block a couple of years ago with a 4 patch centre but this week I revisited my original drawings and tweaked a few lines her n there to include a nine patch centre. The original block measures a hefty 15 so this is wayyyyy undersize..if she were a fish you would throw her back! A really cute make at 7.5 finished. * Scroll through for drawings of my two blocks and tell me which is your preference..personally I like the symmetry of the nine patch but that’s the perfectionist of my other self speaking! * One day..and I say ‘one day’ because it’s a humungous to-do pile: I might pattern this..however in the meantime if you are happy to work from a diagram to trace templates, cut EPP papers..or would like to foundation piece a block - I am more than happy to share my PDF pattern. I have made a blog post with FREE links provided for both blocks You know the drill..see bio for link. 06.01.2022 Olde Patchart Day aka OPD - #oldepatchartday * ‘A Tale of Three Pheasants’presents the perfect opportunity to admire yet another awesome repro side-by-side with the original! *... As repro lovers we are all familiar with the Bannister Hall print released in 1814.which was later reprinted around 1830. For all intents and purposes I believe my applique block could be the Bannister Hall print or reprint? However if you look closely and ‘compare the pair’(sorry Aussie joke there)..you will see the chocolate brown, blotch ground example differs again in that the palm trees are more squat without that elegant curve & length above the head of the bird. Hence you get more ‘bang for your buck’ with the crammed-in overall design, not leaving much free background compared to the original. Scroll thru and study the close up photo of the two pheasant tails and you will see that the chintz with the brown blotch ground is quite naïve in detail compared to that of the applique block and as such I believe it’s the ring-inhmmmmm was this plagiarized from the original around 1830: tsk, tsk, tsk!? * Which now brings us to our wonderful repro example from a range called ‘Pheasants & Traceries’ by @margo_krager..a perfect rendition that we can see was scaled down just ever so slightly. * Also Jeana just posted another great example of pheasant chintz that you can see here: https://www.facebook.com/jeanakimballfoxglovecottage/posts/1708672259284992 * Here's the link to my Instagram post if you wanted to read more. https://www.instagram.com/p/CCep86VH_jh/ See more
