23.01.2022 Round 7 and some very belated Round 6 results! Round 7 saw 5/6 wins across the board. The day started at Como with Under 23s downing Uni blues by 98 points, retaining their top spot for the seventh consecutive week. Alexander Crowe, had 6 goals for the game and leads the goal kicking for U23s with 27 for the season.... Following on from that our Reserve Women and Men had some big wins. The Women playing down south east in and against Beaumaris saw a 44 point win with the girls keeping the opposition goalless until the 4th quarter. Back at como, the Ressie Men took to the field in front of the building crowd who were down for the pivot luncheon. The reserves went from strength for strength each quarter sealing a 67 point win. Matt Bird currently ties for first for leading goal kicker with 17 for the season. At 2pm, the Thirds, Senior Women and Men commenced their respective matches. The Thirds men took on Old Ivanhoe who were eager for their first win on the season. This saw a tough battle between the two with Ivanhoe getting out in front in the first quarter and holding their lead for the rest of the match. The Women also had a tough battle against Beaumaris. It was an important game for Beaumaris and this saw them come out firing keeping the Ogettes at 1 goal to their 3 and 4 points in the first half. Down still at 3rd quarter time the Senior girls fought hard to turn the game around and win by 7. A similar turn of events occurred for our Senior Men who were down at half time at Como. The game changed in Q3, where the Ogs kicked 4 goals 7, to take the lead. Quarter 4 followed the same vain and the boys won the hit out by 15 much to the crowds delight. A huge effort by all over the weekend, bring on round 8!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to those selected in the OGFC Team of the Decade (2010-19). A great side on paper with 13 of the players having played in the 2016 Senior Premiership. Nick Bourke a standout for the coaching position with Andy Leahy's premiership leadership giving him the nod as skipper (supported by Scotty Dixon and Colby O'Brien as VC's). To be eligible a player must have played at least 20 senior games with the club within the decade, with players assessed only on their con...tribution in these years. The side was selected as if it were to take to Como this Saturday, unlike the AFLs All Australian side which seems to have their forward line stacked with gun midfielders! Thanks to the selection panel (Pete Lemon, Jimmy Wright, Jimmy Legoe, Jake Ward, Sandy Hunter, Colby O'Brien, Cal Wood and Rupert Kemp). A tough job to narrow the list of 79 eligible players into 22 with the likes of Tristan Mountjoy (ineligible as only played 18 games), Jez Netylefold, Carl Joyce, Charlie Fairbairn, Jock Grimshaw, Rupert de Crespigny, Shaw Kitchen and Tom Lyons all narrowly missing on selection. All in all, it was an enjoyable exercise to review some of the talent that has taken to Como Park over the past decade. Should we look to retrospectively select the Teams of previous decades?? #oldgeelongfc

20.01.2022 Back in April 2004, the curtain raiser to the OGFC Mens Seniors game was a trial match between Geelong Grammar and The Geelong College, with a strong crowd in attendance (social distancing not an issue back then!). Many of the school boys who took to the field went on to play down at the OGs in the years to come. These days, the OGFC make our way down the highway for an annual fixture, rotating games between Corio & Newtown. We thank both schools (@geelonggrammar and @geelong_college) as well as their alumni associations (OGGA and OGCA) for their valued support of the OGFC. #OGsFridayFlashback @ Como Park

20.01.2022 We are live in 5!! Come and join us!

20.01.2022 This week we take you back to 2009 for the OGs inaugural U19 Premiership. A tight battle for three quarters before the hoops skipped clear in the final term. Guided by their SuperCoach (Tim Hope-Johnstone) and skippered by Jack Merrin this was the start of a great era at the OGs with many that played on the day going on to be life members as 100 game players for the club - Cal Wood (BOG with 4 goals, 201 game player), Nick O'Hare (139), John "mud-pig" Forster (137), Dave Andrew (124), Rob Officer (120) and Gus MacDonald (110). It was great to get a group of them back to como last year for their 10 year reunion! #OGsFridayFlashback

17.01.2022 In case you couldn't tune into last nights OGFC's "Virtual" Presentation Evening, we did record it and you can watch it online. Congrats to our Senior Captains, Scott Dixon & Kath Dunn, who were awarded the Peter Lemon Awards for Best Clubman/Clubwoman.

17.01.2022 A few small steps.... And the photographer badly lacking match-practice

17.01.2022 Remove Lemon from the equation and there is no name more synonymous with the OGFC than Stevie Lansdell in the 21stcentury. Following his debut with the Club in 2000 as a fresh faced 20 year old, Stevie forged an impressive career in the hoops. Making the position of back pocket his own, he played in the 2005 Senior Premiership and went on to captain the Club from2006-2010to become our longest serving skipper. As the years went by and the body slowed down, his leadership st...ood strong as he led the Reserves to a premiership in 2012. By the end of his career, he had amassed 234 games to sit third on the Clubs all-time games tally behind Tony Brocksopp (287) and Tim Jackson (259). More importantly, he still holds the Club record for footy trips attended with nine different T-Shirts in his wardrobe. He was the life of any dress-up function at Como and made sure he stood out at the Club Balls with his signature long skinny or funked up bow-tie! Despite hanging the boots up in 2015, Stevie was not lost to Como. His passion for the Club saw him help out in numerous capacities water boy, runner and assistant coach roles for the Under 19’s and Women’s sides at various stages and in a more official role as co-President from2014-17.He is also a great supporter of the Club as a paid up Gold Pivot Member for the past 8 years hopefully delivering more joy than his beloved Demons have of recent! A true champion of the Oggery indeed! In recent years, he relocated to Gippsland in his role as community & environmental leader with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), but fortunately for the OGs he has found his way back to Melbourne where he is locked down in Collingwood. Like many of us, Stevie will be champing at the bit for football to return to Como in 2021. #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

15.01.2022 Update from the VAFA Board Meeting last night. Looks like we will have to wait another fortnight for a decision on how our 2020 season will play out.....

14.01.2022 Whilst the OGFC only managed 54 games out of Longy, he is widely regarded as one of the most talented footballers to play for the Club. Prior to joining us he already had an on-field CV that was most impressive GGS B&F in Year 12, selected in the APS team as CHF (alongside names such as Jobe Watson, Brendan Goddard and a few other ex-Oggers in Tommy Lyons, Will Richardson and Josh Young), played with Geelong Falcons (U18s) and Werribee Tigers (VFL) before retiring to the ...OGS! He hit packs at full pace, was very strong overhead and could roost the sherrin as evidenced by the 10 goals he kicked out at Hampton Rovers. Whilst starting his OGs career in jumper #20, he was a perfect fit to assume the famed #5 when Vicko retired. Unfortunately he fell just short of premiership success in the blue & white hoops as a member of the losing 2008 Grand Final team. These days Longy is married to Sal and they have 3 very cute little girls (Poppy, Annie & Ruby). Having spent time working in Los Angeles for a few years, the family returned back to Aus a few years ago, but his current role as the Director Head of Projects at Disney saw the family move over to Hong Kong where he is currently working on the opening of Frozen Disneyland. He remains very close with many past Oggers who are amongst his best mates, meaning that he still regularly hears about the time Mollard kicked 6 goals in a best-a-field performance against Peninsula! #OGSWhereAreTheyNow See more

13.01.2022 As a young kid growing up in the 90’s, AP would find himself cheering on his older brothers (Slick & Jonno) most Saturdays at Como Park. He used to run the boundary line for the ressies in the morning before taking on water boy duties for the main game. Many thought this was his way of helping out the Club, but it was more likely the reward of a mars bar & coke that Dale Fraser would offer him every week. Having scooled at MGS, he played U19 football for OM’s, but stayed conn...ected with the OGs via delivering booze to Lady Como every Friday in his job at the local bottle shop, Beards in South Yarra. The excessive amount of vodka cruisers being delivered to the Club was an indication of how much fun was being had at Club Como most weeks and that led to him filing his transfer papers from OM’s to OGFC for the following season. In his debut season for the OGs in 2008 he was thrilled to debut in the seniors alongside many of the guys he had looked up to as a kid (gun midfielders in Will & Jimi Paul as well as Jonny Sleeves Malpas to name a few). This family like atmosphere at the OGs is what AP really played for. Along the journey he tasted premiership success as part of the 2012 Reserves side and went on to earn life membership as a 100 game player. He loved OGs Ball’s, OGs trips (pre-season, bus-trips and end of season footy-trips) and loved the dress up nights at Como (see picture 5 - or is that just his standard Nugget Bar get-up?!). However, he still regrets his Miss OGs performance in front of his then girlfriend (Monica), sister (Caz) and a bunch if their mates. Fast forward to today, and Monica has stuck by him despite that Miss OGS performance, with the two of them engaged and looking to get married next year. They have started a family of their own with two future Oggers in tow Penelope (4) and Freddie (3). He currently heads up the property law practice at Marshalls, Dent & Wilmoth Lawyers in the CBD with particular focus on agricultural/farm transactions. #OGsWhereAreTheyNow See more

11.01.2022 We have seen some great look-a-likes this decade. Let's revisit some of the best! Feel free to send any new ones through to [email protected] #OGsFridayFlashback

10.01.2022 The Helmeted Warrior moved between the midfield and forward line over 134 games with the hoops, debuting back in 2003. With no Under 19 side back then, he spent all of his debut season in the forward pocket watching Vicko kick 100 goals from the best seat in the house. He was a 100+ game senior player, 25 or so reserves games and 1 clubbies match after an overnight flight from London. On-field you will find him in our history books as a dual premiership player (2005 & 2007 ...Reserves) and winner of the 2003 Senior Most Consistent Award. Outside of these premierships, his career highlight (lowlight?!) came when he kicked 8 goals in a game, only for Jamie The Butcher Bell to get awarded BOG that day. Off-field Bettsy brought some quality humour to the table as co-president of the Thursday Night Fines committee with his brother (Tom) from 2006-10. More recently, he has maintained a strong link with the Club as our Secretary from 2014-16 before taking on a committee role as the schools liaison, ensuring a strong link between the Club and our two feeder schools (Geelong Grammar & Geelong College). Away from the OGs, he got married to Lauren back in 2016 and moved back to the city of dreams (Geelong). As husband and wife, they have been very busy starting their own legal practice called Betts Legal (a lot of thought went into naming their business!) and parenting three daughters in three and a half years (Alice, Rose and Grace). Bettsy loves spending time with his girls and is looking forward to them making their debuts for the Oggettes in 2035, 2037 and 2039 respectively. #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

09.01.2022 At this Thursdays AGM, the OGFC's Team of the Decade (2010-19) will be announced. To be eligible, a player must have played 20+ senior games of football for the Club within the years of 2010-19. A selection panel of committee members, supporters, past and present players have selected their team of 22 from a list of 79 eligible players. To see who made it, dial into the Zoom call from 6:30pm this Thursday. A link to the zoom call can be found on the Club website homepage: www.oldgeelong.com.au

07.01.2022 You love to hear it

06.01.2022 From one Betts to another. Last week it was Nick, this week it is Tom. TB was lured to the Como in 2002 by CW Fairbairn & MJ Goldsworthy who promised good football, great blokes and an awesome social scene. He couldn’t get down quick enough post schooling at the 'College' the year prior and went on to forge very handy CV at the Oggery. LIKE his brother, he went on to play 100+ senior games, win a premiership (2005 Seniors), won Miss OGS (2005), convened the Fines Committee an...d spent time on the committee after hanging up the boots where he served as Vice-President and then Co-President with Jimmy Legoe. UNLIKE his brother, he won the Seniors B&F in 2003 and didn’t bother trying to look cool by wearing a helmet. We’ll leave you to decide who was the BETTer BETTs!!! Bettsy was versatile, playing in the ruck, CHF, Back Flank and wherever the coach needed him. He was a strong mark, but an average kick! His highlights were the Lockman Years (2003-06) when he played his best football alongside his brother, best mates from school and many of his life long friends made a the Club. He was also a consistent performer on footy trips and polled well, but couldn’t win a Downlow to match his Senior B&F. His favourites were Gold Coast #1, Sydney (especially the Bowls Club), Byron Bay and Hobart (Freddy Boyle). At the end of Bettsy’s Ogs career he travelled to Thailand to pursue his dream of becoming a Muay Thai kickboxer. He enjoyed a handful of successful amateur bouts before turning professional and getting his shot at the big time. He was knocked out and hospitalised in his first and only pro bout and promptly retired. In 2015 he was again lured, this time back to the City of Dreams (Geelong) after buying a house and marrying Eve. They have gone on to have three kids Bella, Xav and Charlotte with the latter born only four weeks ago. At two years of age, Xav is already tackling better than his Dad and has suffered enough head injuries to warrant a helmet, much like his uncle Nick. Having moved on from being the face of Movember, he is currently working for John Holland on the Metro Tunnel project and loves getting out for a surf. Swell dude! #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

05.01.2022 It is with sadness that we advise the OGFC community on the passing of one of our greatest supporters, Graeme Goldsworthy. He died this morning at the age of 83. Graeme was a huge part of the Club in the 2000’s where he and his wife Kerry were regular fixtures on a Saturday at Como, watching their sons take to the field - Matt (117 games including the 2005 Senior Premiership) and Ben (4 games). Undoubtedly, his largest contribution to the OGs was off-field where he played a...n enormous role in strengthening the Clubs connections with Geelong College during this period. He was also a loyal Pivot Member and rallied many of the Geelong based parents to join him in support of the Club. He promoted attendance at our member lunches and functions as well as donating major raffle and auction items. Many of our members will recollect the infamous old-school blue and white scarves that Graeme had made up for our supporters in 2004 (as worn by him in the image below). In 2008 he was awarded honorary life membership for his outstanding service to the Club. The Old Geelong Football Club extend their sincerest condolences to Kerry, Matt and the extended Goldsworthy family at this sad time. RIP GG.

05.01.2022 Post schooling at The College, Saltsy made his move to Melbourne and ventured down to Como Park in 1999. In just his second season at the OGS, he was appointed captain of the Club and held this position for three years whilst he made the half-forward flank at the clubhouse end his own. As skipper, he was a favourite within the umpiring fraternity with many 50/50 decisions falling the OGS wayuntil he tore both hamstrings off the bone in the 2004/05 seasons. Whilst disapp...ointed he couldn’t get his body right to play in the 2005 Senior premiership, he remained a part of the team as the sides assistant coach under Michael Lockman. He went on to win Best Clubman in his final year at the Club. At the end of his playing days at the Oggery, Danny moved back to Geelong, married Sass and sired three future Oggers Tom, Ned & Angus. He is currently running the show as CEO of the Geelong Racing Club, where he has been since 2014. His passion for football returned in 2019 as he joined the coaching group at Newtown & Chilwell Football & Netball Club in the Geelong Football League. He helped out with the boys junior teams and was assistant coach for their reserves Premiership Team. #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

05.01.2022 OGS Men's Reserves. Como. 22 May Old Geelong 17-8 d Marcellin 6-7

04.01.2022 As publicised last week, the OGs can thank the late Graeme Goldsworthy for the influx of Geelong Collegians to the Club in the early 2000’s. 2003 was no exception to this with the likes of N.Betts, J.Cole, T.Fallaw, J.Fitzclarence, R.Herd, J.Hope-Johnstone, A.Munro, T.Waters and C.Wilson debuting for the Club. However, the most talented ex-Collegian amongst this intake was undoubtedly Jamie Dinga Bell. By the end of his career at Como, he could lay claims to being a Seni...or Premiership player (2005), Best Finals Player (2005) and a dual Senior B&F winner (2005 & 2010). Most weeks he would suffer from leather poisoning, executing extremely well on both his left and right .. aside from that one game where he earned himself The Butcher nickname! Chrissy Mollard (aka the Skinny Cat) doesn’t dish out compliments lightly, but only recently he reflected on how Dinga was the cream of the crop and so good at bringing others into the game.we had chemistry Moldini declared! An ecologist for the past 13 years with a background in agriculture, he married Catherine Riney Ross at the end of 2015 up in Holbrook. 14 months prior to their special day, Riney had been diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 28. For the next four-and-a-half years she faced a lengthy journey of surgeries, treatments and clinical trials which ended in January 2019 when she sadly lost her battle at the age of 32. Dinga and Riney were stoic in their fight. They were tireless campaigners and together they started the @research4riney foundation which has raised nearly $300,000 for research into Bowel Cancer and to raise further awareness. These days, Dinga lives at ‘Leitham’, a farm between Birragura and Barwon Downs that he, Riney and their dog Margaret made home. Recently, he has embarked on a new campaign as he stands as a candidate in October’s Colac Otway Shire Council Election. We wish the great man all the very best with his endeavours in the months ahead. #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

04.01.2022 It's official.....past-Ogger, Jamie "Dinga" Bell is one of seven successful candidates that have been elected to the Colac Otway Shire Council (as announced today). Exciting news for the region and another accolade to add to his already impressive CV (alongside his OGFC life membership, 2005 Senior Premiership and dual B&F's!). Great work Dogga!

03.01.2022 15 Years Ago.....the OGs were "brutal",led by @doggabell @colbyobrien3 @matthew.vasey @vicko5 @kaisercasboult. Two weeks later will go down as one of the greatest days in OGFC history. #DoublePremiership #OGsFridayFlashback

03.01.2022 With the return of our U19s the previous year, 2009 brought a fresh batch of baby faced school leavers to Como Park, including one Gus Macdonald. Over the next seven seasons, this awkward looking newborn giraffe hit the weights room and grew into a Senior ruckman/CHB/CHF for the Oggery. Along the journey he picked up a couple of premiership medallions 2009 U19 Premiership in his debut season with the OGs and a 2013 Reserves Premiership alongside his younger brother George. ...He was also a solid contributor off the field, but couldn’t replicate his premiership success only managing a 3rd placed podium finish in a hotly contested Miss OGs early in his career. He took on roles as part of the fines committee and even washed all of the U19s jumpers one year (or did he send them home for his mum Jane to do it?) in his role as Club Property Steward. Footy trips were also high up on his OGFC CV with strong showings in Hobart, Sydney, Byron Bay, Gold Coast and Cairns. Since leaving the Oggery, Gussy has been a busy man. He moved down to the city of dreams (Geelong) and played 2 seasons with Geelong Amateurs in the BFL, winning a reserves premiership medal with them in 2017. To top off a successful 2017, he got married to Elyse in December with fellow former Oggers by his side as groomsman Jack McPherson, Nick O’Hare, Jack Merrin and his brother George. In May last year, a Junior Mac was born, with Henry already having been secured by the OGs as part of a future father-son package. Gus is working in Geelong in all things commercial finance so feel free to hit him up for some $$$$s! #OGsWhereAreTheyNow

03.01.2022 Training. Last week I scored my photos at 1.75 out of 10. Despite really poor light, a slight improvement this week to 2.85.

02.01.2022 2009 saw a huge influx of school leavers make their way to Como Park - many of them going on to win an U19 Premiership that year and then become 100 game life members at the Club including Dave Andrew, Gus Macdonald, Rob Officer, Nick O’Hare, Cal Wood and a baby faced, red head who quickly earned himself the Mud Pig nickname. JFo relished the site of rain on a Friday evening with wet weather football suiting his in and under approach to the game. He played most of his early y...ears in the midfield and was runner-up in the U19 Unders B&F and as a young buck looked up to the Senior boys like Stevie Lans, Chas Fairbairn, Henry Legoe, Dinga Bell, Tommy Lyons and the Betts brothers to name a few. That drove him to train hard as he transitioned from under age football to play Senior football, where he didn’t hold back on telling umpires what he thought of their decisions (to this day he still holds the record for 50m given away at the Club!). He racked up 85 senior games in the blue and white hoops (moving from midfield to defence later in his career) and remains proud of his 3rdplacing in the 2011 Senior B&F behind Colby O’Brien and Ed Bayles. Off-field he fondly recalls some great memories from footy trips, particularly 2009 in Hobart where Dinga and Bettsy ran the Kangaroo Court and a few years later when we ventured up to the Gold Coast where he had stepped up to be note-taker for the same Kangaroo Court (another achievement he remains proud of!). At the end of the 2016 season he moved back to Mount Gambier (SA) to work in the family business (SE Pine) where he has worked his way up the ranks and is currently General Manger of the timber product support business. His football career has continued where he tasted premiership success with East Gambier in 2017. He now captains the Club and won their B&F this season (finishing 4thin the league B&F) and intends to play into his 40’s! On the home front, he married Rachel in march last year and has recently become a father for the 2ndtime (Evelyn & George). #OGsWhereAreTheyNow
