24.01.2022 Water. Some people lament the journey of this overflow to the sea as wasted. Without it though there is no estuary. No estuary no flathead, whiting, bream, mussels, oysters, prawns. No shifting sandbanks and flowing on an effect to offshore fisheries. Snapper and kingfish are beautiful to eat, this water from our dam is connected to them out at Baranguba ( Montague) and all the fish and fishery folk on the way. It’s not wasted.
23.01.2022 New season! Eat like we do without the weeding.
22.01.2022 This is a scientist. She is collecting data on pollinator and predator insects in market gardens like ours. We were stoked to hear that our garden provides service to a whole range of bugs including 4 different bee species on top of your honey bee. Market gardens like ours provide important habitat and forage for the invertebrates that keep the world in good health. How good! We don’t charge you any extra for this service. You’re welcome.
17.01.2022 On a lighter note, if there was a continuum of places to source good food, with your backyard at one end and a factory at the other, we would be the purveyors of flavour closest to what you could get from Nonno’s patch. You don’t even need a backyard or a skilled and knowledgable Grandparent when you can just head to farmers market this arvo with its fresh air, sunshine and smiles and burst with vitality all week. The other end of the continuum is just ewwwwww. Grab your bags, don your mask, keep your space and come grab some spinach that Popeye would weep over @sagefarmersmarket every Tuesday 3 pm
16.01.2022 Hello friends. I just mulched my phone so if you need anything call Kirsti or email.
15.01.2022 In your town there will be a group of people doing good things voluntarily. In our small town we have lots of groups one of which is Sustainable Agriculture and Gardening Eurobodalla- SAGE. SAGE is focused on dealing wth a range of environmental and social issues by supporting a NSW South Coast sustainable fair food economy and food sovereignty for our local communities. The group runs workshops, hosts a community garden, runs an award winning farmer market and is developi...ng a training farm for market gardeners called Stepping Stone Farm. BUT SAGE also does less glamorous and arguably more important stuff like making representations to govt bodies, working with universities on studies, having input on planning rules and economic strategy. SAGE is a recognisable constituent, is accessible to and in the ears of local chambers of commerce, council, state bodies and federal MP's. The AGM is in a couple of weeks. If you're looking to change things please consider becoming part of the team. They're good people that get stuff done quietly. https://sageproject.org.au/

07.01.2022 "The obsession with efficiency in our food economy has done its best to destroy a distributed local and diverse food economy local abattoirs are now as rare as hen’s teeth, farmers markets have very limited capacity, and most areas are so specialised in their farming focus that they rarely produce the things that would give us a balanced diet. Barely any of us know the fields that feed us or grow a significant share of what we eat. There is way too little local fruit and vegetable production in most areas, and there has been a general loss of the food culture that once existed to turn local products in to great meals..
07.01.2022 8 farmers, 8 stories of the ins and outs of our farms. Pledging is essentially a pre-purchase of the book with a little bit extra for AFSA to continue help create an equitable, sustainable and resilient food system for all Australians. Get on it
07.01.2022 Hello Colleagues. A parliamentary inquiry into the the efficacy of past and current vegetation and land management policy, practice and legislation and their e...ffect on the intensity and frequency of bushfires and subsequent risk to property, life and the environment. is being undertaken by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy. Public contributions to the inquiry will be accepted until 28 February 2020; submissions must address the inquiry’s terms of reference, which are available along with details on how to make a submission on the inquiry website. The Committee also intends to hold public hearings at various locations, which will be announced soon on the inquiry website. https://www.aph.gov.au/vegetationandlandmanagement This is an opportunity. If you have any experience or know people or groups of people who are experienced in agricultural methods that result in landscape hydration, agroforestry, cultural burning practice, silvicultural systems then please ask them to take a look. If you suspect these people may not the personality type that likes to engage with govt processes and you know someone who is, please ask to introduce them to each other, offer to help fill out the forms. The risk here is the govt only hears from the slash and burn mindset and unless we put forward good ideas that have proven results that's what we'll get. Governments are not innovative or imaginative. They react. We can only try to get a positive reaction. Thanks to Dan Harris for the heads up
06.01.2022 Now I am no virologist or graphic designer... but the maths seem simple aye? We need to be careful in these times to not assume that the 'conventional system' ...is the safest. #SupportLocal #FarmNextDoor #LocalFoodResilience (Or copy editor... did you spot the spelling mistake?)
04.01.2022 Alongside our normal A-grade delicious onions @sage farmers market we’ll have 1/2 price jam onions. They’ll be on the back of the ute. These beauties aren’t curing great due to the wet conditions so they need to be cooked up in the next week. If you’ve ever had masala dosa you’ll recall the onion chutney that goes with it. Swipe across for the good recipe.
03.01.2022 Oh my! Family VEGBOX and big box with holiday helpers. We’re on our way!
01.01.2022 Do you shop at a farmers market in NSW? Do you sell stuff there? Do you actually run a market? Just last week Victorian Farmers Markets were instructed to close which meant the only place to buy food was the supermarket. Luckily some hard work and a very big day by the Victorian Farmers Market Association resulted in that decision being overturned and farmers were able to sell their produce. Shoppers were able to eat good fresh healthful food. This one anecdote shows the val...ue of a representative body. The body needs to know how to represent their members to get the best outcome for producers and eaters. During smoko take 5 mins to fill this out ay? https://www.fmansw.org.au/understanding-nsw-farmers-market/
