23.01.2022 In a year full of bad news, we received quite the opposite recently, when we were asked to take part in the VAFA podcast series called "Clubs In Focus". Nick Armistead and Joe Pignataro from the VAFA have sat down and had a chinwag with Vin Arthur, Pat Mount, Dom Spillane, Peter Brabender, Daniel Spitty and Chris Kandilakis about our great club. The boys roll through stories of the early years and our dominance of the 1960s, stories of the on-field legends of the club, and ...as Dan Spitty calls them, stories of the "great people" of the club throughout our 90 year history. Big thanks to Nick and Joe for selecting us and we hope everyone enjoys the yarn. Head to www.paradefc.com.au for the link to the whole podcast, and if you would like to know more about the history, we've added a new 'Club History' section to the website

21.01.2022 Hello OPs Community, We require an umpire for our Reserves match in Round 1, on the 10th of April. If you fancy yourself as a better whistleblower than Julian Assange, or know anyone that is, please drop us a line.

20.01.2022 In a year dominated by disappointing or sad news, we are pleased to announce something much more positive. We have locked in Phil Plunkett, Steve Krstevski and Paul Gregor as our coaches for 2021. Phil, Steve and Paul had no hesitation jumping back on board, seeing the exciting group at their disposal, and the enthusiasm to bring success back to the Garvey. Phil said "It's an honour to be coaching this club, and this group of players again. What's in the past is in the past..., and we are all united in bringing some silverware to Parade in 2021. Before the season was cancelled, the fellas were training hard and all set up for a big year. We can only control what we can control though, so as soon as we're allowed out to train again, I know they will be launching right into it. I can't wait". Steve's first year at the club never really got off the ground, but that hasn't dampened his enthusiasm. "I really liked what I saw leading up the season starting. I'm looking forward coaching the 2s boys, and pushing them to put pressure on the players in the 1s, and helping Phil throughout 2021". In his return to the OPs after several years away, Paul has high hopes for the fortunes of the Under 19s. "I'm excited and priviledged to be coaching the Unders, and producing the next generation of senior players. Please join us in welcoming Phil, Steve and Paul back for season 2021.

15.01.2022 Hello everyone. I hope that you and your families are safe and well. Whilst society as a whole is starting to slowly move back to a semblance of normality, we at the footy club continue to wait to see what the season brings, or indeed if there will be a season at all. Other metropolitan leagues such as the Eastern Football League, and nearby Northern Football League have cancelled their plans for a 2020 season, as have several country leagues. The VAFA have indicated they ...will be meeting on the week beginning the 22nd of June to decide which way we will go. The feedback from other leagues is that the impact of player payments was a major reason for cancelling their year. Without the ability to raise the money required to make those and other payments, continuing on could have and would have seen clubs "go to the wall". Amateur clubs of course do not have the financial burden of player payments, however there are other costs regardless of whether the VAFA season goes forward and these will all be determining factors in their decision. In the meantime we wait. The uncertainty hasn't stopped the players getting back into the swing of it though, with the boys leaping headfirst back to training the day the restrictions were lifted, with the appropriate social distancing of course. At present we are unable to train at Parade due to safety measures they have put in place. In a perfect world we would love to be training on our home deck, but we fully support the decision of the College, as the number one priority is the safety and well-being of their students and staff. We have a great relationship with the College and will conform to whatever guidelines they provide for our usage of the facilities. In the meantime, thanks to the amazing work of our junior club, we have access to Binnak Park in Watsonia North during the week. Parade St Damians negotiated with the council to allow us to train there and we have been doing so for the last couple of weeks. This is just one example of our strengthening relationship with the juniors and we look forward to repaying the favour at some point in the future. Without their help, we would have seriously struggled to get the facilities to train. I'm sure no one needs reminding how tough it has been for many businesses over the past few months. Our wonderful sponsors are no exception. Our business directory lists all our sponsors, and I would ask you to please support them wherever you can. https://www.oldparadiansafc.com/businessdirectory Thanks for your time, and i will update further when news from the VAFA is released Leo Collins President Old Paradians Football Club

11.01.2022 We've always enjoyed our spirited contests against Bulleen-Templestowe, but this week we'll have to make do with some photos from past seasons. Thanksfully the Garvey is in better nick now than a decade ago. #raidersfootball

11.01.2022 To all players, members, sponsors and supporters of the Old Paradians Football Club No doubt you are aware the VAFA Board has resolved that the 2020 football season will not proceed. The full statement can be read on the VAFA website [www.vafa.com.au], but in essence the Board took into account the following in reaching its decision The heath and well being of all people in the VAFA community...Continue reading

09.01.2022 With restrictions on gatherings this year, and the possibility of their being no footy season at all, the Reverse Raffle will likely be our only function in 2020. It is an important fundraiser for the club, and this year is no exception. If there is no footy, there will still be bills to pay, and if we can’t get everyone to the Garvey for a function, we thought we would bring the function to you. In what Clarkey would describe as an historical occasion, the Reverse Raffle... this year will be streamed live via Zoom or Facebook live event, the details of which will be sent closer to the date. The President will be in attendance of course, as will the Secretary and other members of the committee to ensure that everything is completely above board. In lieu of paper tickets, ALL tickets this year will be sold online at TeamApp. Simply select the number of tickets and fill in your credit card details and you’re in the running for the $5000, plus any other little spot prizes along the way. There is a limit of 220 tickets, so hop to it and join in the fun. The link to the tickets is here: https://oldparadiansafc.teamapp.com/events/11341862 We appreciate everyone’s generous support as always Please contact Damian Hannam or Mike Jolley if you have any queries Damian 0447 635 198 Mike 0418 321 985 PLEASE NOTE * Ensure you fill in the details with your full name, and any contact details. 06.01.2022 Exciting news for the juniors as work starts on the new facilities at Binnak Park NB: what you see in the photo is not the final design

02.01.2022 Thanks to Steve Nailer for digging up some footage of our first A-Grade Premiership, and narrated by our Team Of The Century Coach, Maurie Considine. It's a bit grainy, but considering it's a home video from nearly 60 years ago, it's still a fantastic piece of history, and if nothing else, a lesson for Phil Plunkett in how a coach should dress on game day ! For more information on our club's history, plenty of information has been posted on the club website at https://www.oldparadiansafc.com/clubhistory with more to come in the future. Go Raiders

01.01.2022 What makes a footy club great ? It's people. Our Vice Captain Michael Boundy encapsulates that. A premiership player from a proud Raiders family. He will even tell you about that time when he kicked four on a broken foot.... Congratulations Boz, and bring the four points back to the Garvey tomorrow
