23.01.2022 Let the Sabbath calm enwrap your hearts and minds; let it be a rest from the worry and fret of life.

21.01.2022 Oh! Old Tin Shed may need a whole set!

21.01.2022 The new gadget - a magnetic hook! Perfect for keeping the snips handy so no more frantic snip searches.

20.01.2022 What's being quilted at the Old Tin Shed today? Baby Lily's quilt!

19.01.2022 Finished! The borders were only a little challenging since the quilt had to be turned and it's always tricky to load a whole quilt instead of the component parts of back, batt and top. Edited to add: The panto is a design called Swan Song by Nancy Haacke and the border pattern - oh, that glorious border! - is a design by One Song Needle Arts. I hope you enjoy.

18.01.2022 Quilting a Roebuck quilt If you are not familiar with the Roebuck quilt, it was another historical quilt (like the Rajah quilt) stitched on a long and tedious sea voyage around 1860 by the Misses Roebuck. My current client has made a Roebuck variation and wants it custom quilted. Below are photos of the original (I think) Roebuck quilt and a couple of how we are planning on quilting a couple of the main blocks. We traced around the applique to audition some different treatments, only making some minor adjustments to the final choices. Stay tuned as this adventure unfolds.

17.01.2022 Finally got the pictures posted from last week's quilt. It turned out really well considering that the quilt had some major squaring issues, and almost an inch of fullness had to be eased in. Once the binding is on this quilt will look fabulous!

15.01.2022 A gorgeous modernesque (a brand new made up word) batik mix quilt, but very busy, so the quilting pattern chosen has lots of soft curves and curls to balance out all those points, yet simple enough not to add to the visual busyness. The quilting pattern is Wind Swirls from Quiltbees.

15.01.2022 After a longish period of rather indifferent health, everything is beginning to get back on track! This is a quilting plan for a 90x90" quilt that is still on the design wall, but includes quite deep borders for some fancier work. The strategy is to quilt the center first to stabilise the quilt, then quilt the borders, turning the quilt as needed. More pictures to come as the quilting proceeds.

12.01.2022 How much will it cost? Quilt size 72"x90" (45sq ft) Quilting a typical Edge to Edge pattern like this one called Stars a Swirl from Quiltbees at $3 per square foot: ... $135 Quilting + $35 Batting (if we supply) = $170

09.01.2022 I had to take the photo before loading the quilt ... this is the backing! The colours are gorgeous, so vibrant - my cheap-o camera doesn't do them justice. Now to make sure I get it loaded with everything facing the right direction.

08.01.2022 May the good God grant you a peaceful Sunday

08.01.2022 The back of a wedding quilt done recently for a Melbourne customer. The pattern is called "Hearts in a Swirl" and whilst it quilts out quite densely, the pattern looks open and airy - not over the top at all!

04.01.2022 Larkspur wideback by 3 Sisters - it's almost worth making a quilt just to be able to use the backing

04.01.2022 Here at Old Tin Shed we know about UFOs (Unfinished Objects). To help move your UFOs into the finished stack, we offer a couple of budget-priced simple edge-to-edge solutions that will get those tops quilted without breaking the bank. Loops and Meander are both priced at $2.50 per square foot! (Quilt batting or backing not included)

02.01.2022 A section of a whole-cloth quilt recently quilted at the Old Tin Shed from a Quilter's Quilter pattern called Belinda's Feathers - isn't it lovely?
