25.01.2022 After a tumultuous 2020, it is with regret that the OXSC Committee announces the departure of Head Women's Coach, Davide Gualtieri. Davide and his partner Lucia have relocated to regional Victoria and are due to welcome their first child early next year. As a result, the Club has accepted Davide’s resignation. The Committee thanks Davide for his positive contribution to the Sirens in 2020. We were all looking forward to seeing what Davide and the @oxsc_sirens could achieve on... the park after a very promising pre-season, but due to unforeseen global circumstances, it was not to be. We will miss Davide's drive and energy around the Club, and will always be welcome to return. Please join the Committee in extending our thanks to Davide and best wishes for the impending arrival of baby Gualtieri. The Club will advertise for a Head Women's Coach replacement in due course.

25.01.2022 Some big & exciting news coming from our co-tenants at Hays Paddock! @thedeeners Deepdene Uniting Cricket Club for the first time in their history are fielding female squads for the upcoming 2020-21 season! The club is welcoming senior women and girls of any skill level to join, playing on Sundays. If interested, please contact Michael via email: [email protected]

23.01.2022 Name: Andrew Kavanagh Nickname(s): Kav, Paddy Ashe's Boyfriend/husband Nationality: Irish and Australian ... Position: Midfielder, highly critical sub! Seasons at OXSC: Four seasons (2010-2013), player-coach of the Reserves for one of those seasons. Honours achieved: Reserves 2010 Premiership, couple of individual little individual awards, one of which I know it ranked me higher than Vince Bengasino and Paddy Ashe! Favorite Teammate(s) & why: Pretty tough one to call but I’d have to say Phil Barcellona and Greg Horgan for their hilarity! Most skillful teammate: Juan De La Pava on his day and not needing a lift from Richmond 2 minutes before a game was due to kick off. Chris Ketsakidis is a close 2nd! Favorite Memories at OXSC: One of the best & worst memories at the same time was being locked in the rooms after the 'gentlemen' of ETA Buffalo took matters into their own hands, in which the police were called! Paddy Ashe one day scored 95 yard screamer against Beaumaris, but the biggest highlight of my OXSC career was J.Lo calling me his favourite ever captain whilst standing in front of the captain at the time! Which former teammate(s) spoke the most: Hands down Vince Benga, really enjoyed his discussions with Scotty Brown and Laccer! Something most don’t know of you: In late July this year, I became the father of triplets!

21.01.2022 Name: Anthony Fameli Nickname(s): Daddy, Fams, Montana, Tony McGuire. Nationality(s): Australian. 17.01.2022 The Old Xaverians Soccer Club (OXSC) is looking to solidify its male & female squads in its return to the world game! 2021 is sure to be an exciting year in joining our growing family club with both squads aiming for promotion in their respective leagues. Our senior & reserve Men will compete in State League 4 North, with our Women aka 'The Sirens' competing in State League 1 North-West.... We're proudly & conveniently located in the central & accessible suburb of Kew East. All training and club events require a COVID check-in upon arrival. If you're interested in coming to a session to see what we're all about, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us via DM or https://oxsc.com.au/play-soccer-eoi/

16.01.2022 Name: Liam O’Brien Nickname: LOB Nationalities: Australian and Irish ... Position: Aggressively overlapping fullback in the Brazilian tradition. Seasons at OXSC: 8 (and counting, until I can make my move overseas!) Honours achieved: Thirds 2014 Premiership and Cup Winners Cup; ‘Golden Head’ for most headed goals in most if not every season. Favorite Teammate(s) & why: David Wood for writing match reports so colourful they caused a diplomatic incident in Bunyip! Rohan Phelps for composing an entire hymnbook of club songs for us to obnoxiously belt out on pub crawls! My housemates Tommy Edwards, Sam Habteslassie and Jono Peck for driving me to every match, and how can I not mention Nicholas Butler for being the beating heart of the club. Most skilful teammate: The sublime Evan Kokkinos, who could dictate play without leaving the centre circle! Favorite Memories at OXSC: Winning our league title in 2014 with a dramatic comeback win over our biggest rivals the Kings Domainiacs at the Paddock; successfully escaping Bunyip and not ending up in their inexplicably and rather ominously large local cemetery; playing alongside my little brother COB on the rare occasion he dropped down into the Reserves; the interstate tours (back when we could leave Victoria!) for Jesuit Cups and presiding over Kangaroo Court at our annual Super Saturdays and Silly Sundays! Which former teammate(s) spoke the most: Anthony ‘Fams’ Fameli (today's Senior Men's coach) yapping away at me as either a teammate, coach or (God forbid) both in the Reserves has been the soundtrack of my Saturday morning hangovers for the last few years! Something most don’t know of you: I actually came to OXSC via the Old Xavs Cricket Club, where I opened the bowling under the astute captaincy of Maurice Corsi ("keep warm!") and alongside Tom 'The Future' Edwards, Rick Perri and occasionally Nick Butler, before he popped his shoulder out while expansive leaving a medium paced delivery outside his off stump!

15.01.2022 Name: Arthur Gillion Nickname(s): GMO, G-Money Nationality: English... Position: Forward Seasons at OXSC: 9 seasons (2011-2019) Honours achieved: Seniors 2012 Premiership, Paul Trimboli Winner 2018 & 2019, Seniors Top Goal Scorer 2010, Reserves B&F 2018 & 2019, Reserves top goal scorer 2019 and 2020, as well as scoring 101 goals for the club. Favorite Team mate & why: The Clyne brothers (Matt and Dan) for introducing me to the club. They made me feel like family when I was new to Australia and contributed to some amazing memories at Old Xavs. Can't leave out Chris Moloney, who gets up there for assisting so many of my goals, including five in a game once...that was magical! And I never returned the favour....sorry mate. Most skillful teammate: The young ones, Bart (Butter), Doolan and Ollie - a pleasure to play with and a pleasure to watch! And of course, Stella. He makes football look effortless and one of the nicest blokes at the club. Favorite Memories at OXSC: Winning the 2012 Seniors Premiership in our last game (and the celebrations that followed). Seeing junior football and women’s football takeoff at the club and being such a success story! I will never forget finishing my Old Xavs career with a hat-trick to take my tally to 101 goals for the club. A special moment and one my wife and daughter (The Oracle) got to see from the Fortress side lines. Which former teammate(s) spoke the most: Joey Di Pietro by a country mile - but I love the bloke! I could listen to him all day ...oh and Jonno Simpson, he spoke just as fast as he could run...and that was fast. Something most don’t know of you: I played against Robbie Fowler and Brendon Rogers on AAMI Park as part of the Victory v Liverpool staff game. I scored (thanks Musky for the assist), got nutmegged by Brendon Rogers (and he called it ) and chocked in the dying seconds to win the game 5-4. Ange Postecoglou and the Victory football department have never forgiven me. You never know, if I scored that goal, my football career could’ve been very different.

15.01.2022 Vale Luciano Fioravanti The Old Xaverians Soccer Club is saddened to learn of the passing of our much loved inaugural Senior Men’s coach Luciano Fioravanti. Pictured here in the back row standing far right, this was our Senior Men’s first ever competitive match, played at the Xavier College Jackson Oval where we emerged victorious at 9-0. Born in Italy, Luciano played for Brunswick United Juventus in what was then the Victorian Premier League, where he would later coach, ...as well as eventually coaching Bulleen Lions, Thornbury United, Kew Eagles, Old Xaverians and other local clubs from all levels. A well respected family man in Melbourne’s Italian community, club co-founder Peter De Luca this morning stated that ‘Luciano was a massive part of the club’s early history. His unique catchphrases and general positive attitude was a perfect match for the youthful list that we assembled at the OXSC when the club began. He led us to title glory in our first year and established a great culture on and off the field.’ Some of OXSC’s present adult men players’ fathers, uncles and Godfathers were coached by Luciano at some point in their lives. Aged 83 when he passed away last Saturday, Luciano coached our Senior Men in its inaugural season in 2002, where the team was ASFV League Two Premiers and Challenge Cup winners. Luciano stayed for one more season in leading the men into its first season in @football_victoria in what is now the Victorian State League 5. In 2012 Luciano was recognized as OXSC International Team of the Decade Coach. Our prayers and condolences are with the Fioravanti family at this time. Recquiescat in Pace Luciano

14.01.2022 PRE-SEASON DETAILS The 2021 campaign for our Men & Women kick's off this Tuesday at Hay's Paddock in Kew East! All are welcome to attend & join our growing Family club!... Every Tuesday training will be at the Northern Oval of Hays Paddock, with a 6:30pm arrival for a 6:45pm start. No boots, runners only, and COVID check-in will be required. See you Tuesday!

14.01.2022 Name: Paul Marazita Nickname(s): Paulie Nationality: Australian (with Mediterranean extract)... Position(s): Centreback and Wingback Seasons at OXSC: Fifteen seasons in total between the Seniors, Reserves and Veterans (2002-2014, 2017-2018). Honours achieved: Senior 2002, 2009 and 2012 Premierships, Seniors 2002 and 2008 Runner's Up B&F, Veterans 2017 Premiership, Veterans 2017 B&F, OXSC Team of the Decade First XI. Favourite Teammate(s): Adrian Ubaldi the talisman - only Old Xav with a club chant that went platinum. The lip of Matthew Pessina - a temper to match my own. Gianni Bramante, unstoppable on the right....and Peter De Luca for starting the whole thing way back when. Most Skilful Teammate(s): The internationals: Peter Közle, Liam Flynn and Giorgio Perelli - all short stints with lasting memories. The local products: Andrew Vittadello, Anthony De Luca, Vincent Bengasino, Michael Fragale, Stella - all celebrated names through the Vic State Leagues. Favourite Memories at OXSC: All the premierships and ensuing celebrations and presentation nights. The many end of season trips from Adelaide to Gold Coast, Bali back to Balnarring (emphasise on Balnarring, if you know you know). Committee meetings. Cilmis team addresses. Anything Jonny Longo said or did, John Hatzi and friends on the sidelines, our first (highly flammable) Vasco Da Gama kit....Daniel Robilotta! And inaugural Senior coach Luciano Fioravanti RIP. Which former teammate(s) spoke the most: Nicholas Butler, just ask the good people at ETA Buffalo and their many supporters with corner flags and umbrellas in hand. They’ll agree he had plenty to say. Something most don't know of you: Pre-game ritual is that I won’t take the field without 2x Elastoplast Fabric strips on each big toe. I’m very guarded about my calluses. Oh and I never went to Xavier.

14.01.2022 Name: Thomas Voss Nickname: Vossy, and The Wangaratta Messi. Nationality: Skip (Australian) ... Position: Defender, but everywhere except in goals. Seasons at OXSC: 14 (2005 2018) Honours Achieved: 2009 & 2012 Senior Premierships and OXSC Team Of The Decade. Most Skilful Teammates: Liam Flynn, Ed Doolan, Mick Fragale, Dom Talimanidis. Favourite Team Mates: Have to say Butler as he said me! James Lachal often hit speculative shots from 40 yards that went out for throw ins and then blamed another team mate for a bad pass, but Butts and I would let him have it . I loved playing in that 2009 team with names like Ubaldi, Marazita, Fragale, Stella, Bramante, Clyne, Nicholls. It was a real privilege to play with all of them. Favourite Moments: Silly Saturday/Super Sunday/Mad Monday was always the highlight for me and usually capped off every season in style. The End of Season trips to Gold Coast and Echuca were epic too. The Ten Year Anniversary night at Crown Casino was an amazing event bringing back a lot of big names from the club. I am looking forward to the next Decade event in the coming years. As much as I hated them all, I really enjoyed playing against Old Camberwell, ETA Buffalo (they attacked me and Butler after a game and the cops were called while we barricaded ourselves in the change rooms), Dandenong Thunder and Iraqi4EVA. Cilmi imposing a 7am curfew rule for the season before a game on a Sunday at 12pm was pretty incredible. I hope to return to the club in some form further down the track, hopefully a Vets team post Covid. Which teammates spoke the most: John Longo (most instense), Olly Kalac (nipping little brother), Phil Barcelona (always complaining), and bothg Nick Butler & Tom Pearse constantly quoting Simpsons or Alan Partridge of which only they knew the quotes. The Lachal Brothers (they love each other so much), and Damien Cilmi, his long winded pre-game/half time speeches left me laughing and also very confused.

06.01.2022 Today is Australia’s National day of action in reminding ourselves to ask our relatives, friends, colleagues and teammates are you ok?. In one of the greatest times of uncertainty, it is crucial to help those around you, a value enforced by Xavier College and was brought to OXSC by its founders, hence the often used term in describing ourselves as the ‘family club’. See the above guide if you’re unsure where to start, and remember that we’re all in this together. Stay safe. #ruok
