The school plans to hold future Gala Days on the Saturday closest to March 9, the date the school opened in 1922.... As a consequence, the OYU annual reunion will be held on Friday, March 6 in 2020. 21.01.2022 Reunion 2017: A couple of year groups, 1978-1982 and 1997-2002 have planning well under way for next year's reunion in March. Are you from a year group that may have a significant starting or finishing anniversary coming up? If so, be sure to contact the OYU for a printout from our database of people in your year group who are also OYU members. Another useful strategy for building a reunion group is creating your own year group Facebook page! ... Closer to the event we'll ask you for approximate / anticipated numbers attending so we can cater for you and ensure you have the year group sitting together at the venue. Simple! Look forward to seeing you in March 2017.

19.01.2022 A repost from earlier in 2018. Just a reminder that next year, we will celebrate 25 years since the school had girls enrolled in all years. The girls are arranging a particular girls' reunion as part of the annual OYU reunion in March, 2019. So we're calling out to all girls in the 1993 and 1994 intakes and any other girls since then, to attend the Old Yanconians' annual reunion dinner on 8th March, 2019 at the Leeton Soldiers' Club.... Of course, all Old Yanconians and especially those guys and girls from the period 1993 -1994 are invited to attend! Kindest regards, Kate Yelland (neé Gosper) First girls' School Captain, 1994- who has 2 children currently at YAHS
19.01.2022 Remembering those Yanconians who have served in Australian campaigns abroad since World War II, and especially those who paid the supreme sacrifice. Lest We Forget!
15.01.2022 IMPORTANT ADVICE: CHANGES TO BEACH CARNIVAL, OYU REUNION AND GALA DAY DATES FROM 2019 Yanco Ag has advised us that from 2019 onwards, there will be a change in dates for the Beach Carnival and Gala Day.... The Beach Carnival will be held on Friday, 8th March. That means the Old Yanconians' Union reunion in Leeton will be held on the evening of Friday, 8th March. Gala Day will be held on Saturday, 9th March. These activities will occur one week earlier than usual. The change of dates to the second weekend of March is likely to be permanent. If you are planning a reunion group get-together or arranging accommodation around the Leeton area, PLEASE take note of these changes AND advise anyone likely to be affected. We recommend you start making any necessary changes to your accommodation bookings as soon as possible. We would appreciate knowing reunion group numbers (for catering and seating purposes) by the middle of February 2019. Bill Barwick

11.01.2022 Joseph (Joe) MADELEY OAM The recent passing of Joe Madeley occurred on the Central Coast (Berkley Vale) of NSW. Joe attended Yanco Ag during the 1930s. He enlisted in the 9th Division, 2nd AIF and saw service at Tobruk, El Alamein, New Guinea and Borneo. In later life, Joe was President of the Australian "Rats of Tobruk" Association and led a veterans' group back to Libya in 2011 to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of those battles.... He also attended OYU meetings in Sydney for many years. The OYU extends its sympathy to Joe's family at this time. Joe was 95. His funeral was held on 2nd September 2016 at Palmdale NSW.
10.01.2022 15/12/2020 From YAHS, Yanco, 2703 To All Parents and Carers ... Everyone would have noticed in the media over the past couple of weeks the easing of restrictions by the NSW government relating to COVID 19. This is great news for everyone and we hope it continues over the Christmas period. The increase in the number of people who are allowed to gather in public spaces is a major step back to a better year in 2021 Unfortunately, what these general community restrictions do not alter is the restrictions applied to the three state boarding schools by NSW Health and the Education Department who are working closely together to provide consistent advice. The latest advice from the department yesterday makes no mention of a change to restrictions for boarding schools. We are still operating under the direction of ‘no non-essential personnel on site. The specific guideline regarding numbers of people on site is: P&C or other community social events or functions, fetes and barbecues can proceed outdoors only in Term 1. The number of parents and external visitors meeting onsite is limited to a maximum of 30 people for indoor activities or 100 people for outdoor activities. A COVID-19 Safety Plan must be in place and all attendees must sign the visitor acknowledgement form (PDF 183KB). Outdoor events involving community participation such as morning teas, BBQ’s or picnic events with parents can proceed with a maximum of 100 people outdoors (including staff, students and parents) consistent with the current public health advice relating to public gatherings. Indoor activities are limited to 30 people. Schools can recommence school events and activities that involve the school community (eg family members) provided the event occurs in an outdoor setting and is limited to a maximum of 100 people, with a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place. In light of these restrictions and after meeting with the school’s P&C and Old Yanconians we have cancelled Gala Day for 2021. Beach carnival and Gala Day are the highlights of the school year but we must abide by the directions given to us by the Education Department and NSW Health. Your patience and tolerance as we continue to work through these difficult times is appreciated. The school will run a beach carnival in 2021 but on current guidelines could not have any spectators. The school, P&C and Old Yanconians will continue next year to organize the centenary event for 2022. Gary Hunt Principal

The OYU is delighted, as usual, to welcome the Principal, Deputy Principals, School Captains and prefects to our function. We hope everyone enjoys the evening!
05.01.2022 Reunion groups planning to attend the 2017 OYU reunion are asked to advise us of likely numbers attending. Please do that over the next few days. We can then allocate tables and calculate catering requirements with the Soldiers' Club in Leeton. If your reunion group is planning to have a look around dormitory areas of the school during Gala Day, you'll need to make prior arrangements through the school. Please contact them directly. The OYU produce packing night for Gala... Day will be held at Guilford's Sheds (behind Think Water), in Leeton, from 7.30pm on Thursday, 16th March. Some senior students and staff will join Old Yanconians in getting produce bagged and stacked in bins for Saturday's Gala day. A barbecue and drinks will finish off the evening. Current members should keep an eye out on their mail boxes, too. The latest issue of our journal, The Yanco Echo, is in the post and on its way to you! Additional copies will be available at the reunion.
03.01.2022 2018 REUNION Another reminder that our annual reunion will be held at Leeton Soldiers' Club on Friday, 16th March from about 6.30pm. There is a door charge of $50 per person. If you are organising a reunion group for the night, please advise us of your likely numbers, sometime this week. The YAHS Beach Carnival is held at Middle Beach on Friday, 16th March. The 'march past' will be held around midday. That evening, come along to our reunion. The next day, of course, is Gala Day which runs from around 9am to 2pm (no fireworks these days). The Yanco Echo details around 10 accommodation options around Leeton. If you haven't finalised a place to stay, at this stage, you may need to look more widely around the MIA.
03.01.2022 ANNUAL REUNION CANCELLED IN MARCH 2021 We regret to advise that our 2021 reunion in March has been cancelled. This follows on from Yanco Ag's decision to cancel the 2021 Gala Day (see an earlier post on this page from the school).... We have had to do this due to the current uncertainties surrounding Covid-19: 1. Old Yanconians could have been coming from a range of locations which may have been hot-spot areas, resulting in virus spread. 2. Without a Gala Day and a closed Beach Carnival there were fewer and fewer reasons for making a journey to Leeton for a reunion. 3. We're obviously unable to predict just what conditions will apply, health-wise, in NSW in mid-March, either. We regret that we have had to make this decision but feel it is the responsible position to take. Please SHARE this information widely with other Yanconians in your networks and with Yanconians you see from time to time. We look forward to seeing you at the 2022 Centenary of Yanco Ag reunion. OYU Executive
01.01.2022 Congratulations to all those Year groups who made it along to the OYU reunion on Friday night. With guests, about 150 were in attendance! There were a number of follow-up dinners on Saturday night at various locations around the area. A farewell breakfast was even held on Sunday morning, organised by one Year group! Some thank yous:... Thanks to Yanco Ag and principal, Gary Hunt, for sending in some staff and Year 12 students to help pack produce on Thursday night. The OYU provided a barbecue and drinks afterwards for them. Thanks to the Soldiers' Club in Leeton for an impressive meal, and for platters of snacks later in the evening. Thanks to those reunion groups who spent months organising Year group returns for the weekend. Thanks for the invites to attend various reunion dinners on Saturday night. They all appeared to be a huge success. Thanks to those Old Yanconians who got out to the school for Gala Day and supported the efforts of the P&C in raising much needed funds for the school. Finally . . . the OYU hopes you enjoyed your weekend and that you have a safe trip back home. We look forward to welcoming you back next year or in the not-to-distant future! Keep those contacts happening between group members and encourage others who were unable to attend, to make it along next time!
