24.01.2022 Fathers Day.........socks and jocks, right?! The unwritten tradition in our house is that Santa fills Mr Oli and Lus stocking with socks and jocks and then we give him new PJs for his birthday in Feb. Youd think hed be sick of the socks and jocks deal, but funnily enough, one year Santa must have been super busy....or tired........or both, so no socks or jocks in the stocking and we had a very disappointed dad on our hands! Seems my husband actually likes getting new ...socks and jocks and Santa ruined Christmas Mr Oli and Lu sleeps in cotton boxers so thats what hell be getting for Fathers Day and I know he will love them. Hell love them coz theyre cotton and comfy and coz there might be a block of chocolate in the pressie too Ill be popping a block of chocolate in with all PJ sets ordered and in orders of 2 or more boxers and just give me the nod, Ill gift wrap them for you too

22.01.2022 The last week and a half I have sewed my way through a huge stack of face mask orders , and am happy to share, that today I donated $1200 to Kirsty @Saff&Sassi to help her pay it forward and distribute earsavers to our beautiful healthcare workers. Oli and Lus contribution will be shared with Casey Hospital and The Royal Melbourne hospital, where we hope the healthcare workers can feel the appreciation we have for all the hard work they do, not just now, but always. Thank you to everyone who ordered a face mask, you have all helped share a little bit of kindness xxx

21.01.2022 Thank goodness its Friday!!! Even though each day seems to roll into the next one here in lockdown, Friday still brings a little spark. The weeks are flying past (its September already!!!) and yet they seem so long at the same time in our iso bubble. Spring is here and Im looking forward to the longer days, some more sunshine and am seriously hanging out to get to a fabric shop ... What are you looking forward to now that spring has sprung?

20.01.2022 Small biz mumma, lockdown 2.0 and the great elastic shortage of 2020! (I didnt even make that last bit up!) Pre 2020 when life was normal....(oh remember, remember 2019, she wasnt perfect but gee, she was pretty swell ) This biz mumma would wake, put a bra on (I know right!), get her cherubs ready and off to school, she would savour a cup of tea and then cram as much work as she could into that magical time block 9 till 3, oh 9 till 3, how I miss you so ... Shed cut, sew and package up PJs, source and order fabric, take photos, send emails, oh it was just grand. Come July 2020 and lockdown 2.0, while waiting and waiting and waiting some more for fabrics to arrive( thanks COVID-19 for all your meddling) this biz mumma said ok, Ill make a few masks, help fill the need, pay it forward too..... Cue mandatory mask announcement and this biz mummas enchanted PJ world has transformed into the face mask making production line of the century.... only there is no mass production line, its just me, my scissors, sewing machine and a list of orders this -long. I now wake up, give my bra on the edge of the bath a wink (we both know thats where shes staying for the next 5 weeks ) and I make my way to the magic (or manic ) mask making workshop, where I now also only answer to the title Mrs Crazy Mask Lady Extraordinaire, (thank you) This volume of mask making has been intense to say the least, (and with 2 children remote learning in the mix too ) but I have to say, I am so fortunate to have some mighty fine people in my circle. My gorgeous friend in Tassie sourced more elastic and black fabric from her local spotlight for me. (Yes, elastic is the new toilet paper, the shelves are empty!) Ive had offers from many to help cut and sew, and everyone who has ordered masks so far, has been patient and understanding of the bizarre and somewhat surreal situation we find ourselves in, down here in Melbourne. So lockdown 2.0.........Ill just be over here waiting for my PJ fabrics to arrive and sewing up all your masks orders How is lockdown 2.0 going for you guys?
20.01.2022 So, looks like these kids of ours have scored themselves another week off school!!! My 2 gave a little fist pump when they heard the news..........I guess at 10 and 13, another week of holidays is always a good thing, right? Us mammas and pappas know that this second round of restrictions will not be without its challenges. Im trying to draw on my girls joy at having another week at home and with a deep (I repeat DEEP!) breath, prepare for the possibility of remote learning... again. The difference this time, will be, that we know what it looks like, we know what our limits are, we know what our kids limits are and we know that our collective mental and emotional health are far more important than what we think it should look like. Ill be ensuring we get outdoors, that we have time out from each other and that we stay connected to our nearest and dearest. Other than filling your wine glass () what will you be doing this time round to keep your family swimming?
19.01.2022 Oh sassy housewives, you all just seem to be speaking to my lockdown 2.0 heart! The other night a friend and I found ourselves dying with laughter as we scrolled through retro housewife memes. We were looking for ideas for a sassy slogan to print on the tee of these sassy housewife PJs. I love a good laugh, and Im not one to take myself too seriously, I think thats the reason this sassy housewife fabric appealed, and goodness knows I reckon after all these days in lockdown,... we can all relate!! As Ive been sewing these sassy gals up, I thought it would be fitting for the tee to sport a few sassy words. Ive shared a few of those retro memes in my stories, (Ive edited out the super sassy ones as I do have some younger followers )to set the tone and give you a laugh Ive also popped a couple of examples in too. Id love your feedback, so get your comfy PJs on, pour yourself a glass of something (its ok if thats a cup of tea too) and take 5 minutes for yourself for a little laugh. 19.01.2022 Every dang night!!! If the fifty thousand cries of Im hungry during the day arent enough..............dinner time rolls around and boom! Whats for dinner? Now, I actually like cooking (cooking AND sewing) I know, Im a great catch , but Im sure even Martha Stewart gets weary sometimes........doesnt she?... Yesterday the girls asked whats for lunch? and my reply....baked beans on toast AND youre making it yourself This cooking, sewing mama sometimes has moments of greatness, where the weeks meals are planned out, the house is tidy and every one is living happily ever after. And, sometimes, dinner is concocted with whatever I can find, and is served up with a side of take it or leave it. Ill let you guess which one its been this week

18.01.2022 Its all just good juju here! No, I havent lost my marbles When you spend as much time with scissors, fabric and a sewing machine as I do, you have plenty of time to think........... The other day (whilst sewing of course) I was giggling to myself as I recalled a conversation I had with a girlfriend. (Giggling to myself.... just stick with me, I havent lost my marbles...I promise ) So, my friend, a busy mum of 3, nurse and business owner, was a tad flustered, (it happens to the best of us!) getting organised for her childs birthday party. Any-who, she had, at the eleventh hour, asked her mum if she could rustle up some of her famous sausage rolls for the day. Her mum obliged, but not without a little huffing and puffing and a bit of if you had just asked me earlier and so on. On the day of the party I got a recount re sausage rolls drama and my friend says Mel, I dont even feel like serving them, coz theyve got bad juju (see I am getting to the point!!! ) we both laughed coz youve gotta laugh, but it did make me think about the energy we put into the things we do. I often hashtag my PJ posts with #madewithlove and, truly ruly, you can bet they are. I sometimes think about the person Im making the PJs for, I recently made a pair for a new mum of twins (her mum had found me on fb and ordered a pair for her for Mothers Day) I thought about how gorgeous it was of her mum to buy a thoughtful, practical gift, and how special twins are, and what an amazing time those first weeks are and how comfy she would be in her PJs and ..........you get the picture. 14.01.2022 Warning, C word ahead!! Yep, Christmas I have had a few customers asking about things for Christmas................. If youve been here for a while youll know that PJs are the present of choice for me at Christmas time. I love finding fabrics that I know will be loved by the wearer (Im also a classic giver of practical gifts ) and Ive already got half of my presents sewn up (woohoo winning ) A couple of my customers have got in nice and early and have ordered Christmas themed PJs for their entire family. Another beautiful customer has ordered a matching set for an adored grandfather and his 9 grandkids, with a fabric design that holds a special memory of their departed grandmother (gosh I just love this ) With 2020 dishing out a big bag of uncertainty for us here in Melbourne, I thought Id get in early(ish) and let you know that, although I probably wont see you at a market anytime soon and although I cant give you a big squeezy hug ........... I can get you sorted for Christmas. So, if youre after PJs in Christmas themed fabric, then give me a hoy. If youre after a particular design, just give me a hoy. I just loved their sarcastic one liners and their fabulous hair. Little did I realise their sass and humour would be so welcome (and appropriate ) during this iso period. ... 09.01.2022 Ive shared this video on my stories, and its giving me all the feels Its my youngest, wearing the PJs that may have started it all! Way before Oli and Lu........... I remember my girlfriend had seen a similar pair online but they were unavailable, so I whipped these ones up for both our girls. It was a beautiful soft cotton poplin with cupcakes all over and I just bought a cotton tee to match it back with and embellish. Here began the tradition of handmade PJs for birthday presents.... Im such a sucker for a practical gift and loved finding fun cotton prints to sew up, always keeping in mind the recipient and thinking about their favourite things. I always let my two choose their fabrics too. As I watch this gorgeous bum wiggling I remember that these PJs were made about 10 years ago, for my eldest, then passed on to the bum wiggler and am fairly certain passed down again after that. Im so glad I captured them in film and have it to look back on, to remind me why it is I love making my PJs xx

06.01.2022 THIS, is the face of a woman who just performed a textbook reverse park! Perfection I tell you! I know, I know, do these talents ever cease?! Look, I had half expected the butcher to drop his knife and applaud as I walked in after executing my perfect park, but alas, he just asked me what I would like today. I guess he didn’t realise he was in the company of such greatness this Tuesday morning This is also the face of a woman, who, for quite some time now, has made a cons...cious decision, to give those fancy filters a miss.......aha, not a filter in sight over here. When I first entered Instagram land, it was very appealing. At the press of a button I could hide myriad of flaws, and talk to you in my stories with ridiculously long lashes and sparkly eyes. But, it didn’t take long for me to decide that 1: you know what....this is what I look like and 2: I actually didn’t want my little Insta voice to add to the ever constant bombardment of unrealistic images fed to women (oh and 3: I really just want to make beautiful cotton PJs) So instead of fussing over my realistic, tired, school holiday mum face, I’d rather focus on my killer reverse park that has put some serious pep in my step and get on with sewing up a storm

06.01.2022 I finally got some official thank you cards printed up for Oli and Lu! My brand manager (um.....thats kinda me ) had been a bit slack getting that job done....... I love them, and have already been popping them in with all your orders, coz its all about the good vibes here ... Its only Tuesday (I know ) but Ive had so many amazing messages from customers this week, that my heart is just bursting with joy The self doubt you encounter when running your own one man show always manages to creep in at times, but it is such a boost to hear from happy customers and your kind words are always appreciated A beautiful customer wanted to give my little biz a review, but alas, my marketing director (um.......thats kinda me too ) didnt have the review tab activated on my page! I dont see this pandemic as an opportunit...y to take advantage of. 04.01.2022 So what even is plankton anyway?! When I think of plankton, I dont know why, but I remember that scene in My Best Friends Wedding, at the railway station, where Julia Roberts is comparing herself to pond scum. She says something like Im pond scum......lower actually, Im like the fungus that feeds on the pond scum I think its because they both start with P, or their place in the food chain, that my brain goes through that thought process......and I know I aint gonna be ...pipping David Attenborough off his post any time soon, but I should probably clarify what plankton actually is, so we can all let Julia Roberts off the hook. (Shes pond scum not plankton, remember ) So Plankton, they are drifting organisms that live in large bodies of water, theyre microscopic, so not strong enough to swim against the oceans currents. They can be categorised as either plant - phytoplankton or animal - zooplankton or both! They are pretty much the bottom of the food chain and are super important to ocean life, feeding everything from microscopic zooplankton to fish and even huge whales. Im not really sure where these plankton PJs sit in the food chain? Ive just loaded them into my @madeit store and there might be some dads thatll feel super smart sharing their facts about plankton, and theyll look pretty cool wearing them too

02.01.2022 Oh hi I see a few new faces over here, so time for a quick Oli and Lu meet and greet Im Mel, head honcho and doer of all things. When Im not jumping on trampolines, testing my bladder control, (and not wearing my Mrs Crazy Mask Lady Extraordinarie hat ), I am busily creating comfy cotton PJs for you to chill out and relax in.... Im all about, locally made, slow fashion full of good vibes The Oli in Oli and Lu is my big girl Olivia. She is currently knee deep in remote learning from 8.45am till 3.20pm every day, and I honestly dont know how she is doing it? Always lets me know if shes not digging a fabric design and always ends up wanting one of every PJ made The Lu is miss Lucy, she has punched and stamped out every label that has gone on your face masks and Ive kind of given her the sole task of writing out every note too Always quick with the sassy one liners and has suggested I fill my sewing machine table drawer with lollies and snacks (I think Ill keep her!) 01.01.2022 Soooo, Im thinking Oli and Lu PJs should come with a warning label! Something like..........ordering our PJs is so easy, you could do it in your sleep! (Hmmm, no that doesnt make sense ) Or............ Warning, your Oli and Lu PJs will be so comfy, you could sleep in them ... My husband was thinking more along the lines of ............. Warning, you too could look this hot in a pair of Oli and Lu PJs (ask him to model once and he thinks hes Australias next top model ) In all seriousness, I will tell you, that when you order from Oli and Lu, youre ordering from a real life person (thats me ) and you can ask me for a different colour tee or different size top and bottoms. Its like pick and mix lollies, but with PJs I will warn you though, that when you order a pair of our PJs, you are 2583 times more likely to order more pairs ........... I know, coz Ive done the math
