19.01.2022 Donation Distribution Day 1st August 2020 During the fires that impacted our area in December and January, a large amount food and household consumables were ...donated from a variety of sources. At the time, a few of the members of the Rotary Club of Rylstone Kandos stepped up and were managing the packing and distribution of these donations. A large number of hampers were put together and distributed to local people that were going through hard times during and after the fires. The storage and distribution have been based at the Rylstone Memorial Hall. With the Coronavirus lockdown, and the closure of all of the Council facilities during that period, the distribution of the items was put on hold. There is still a large number of donated items in the hall so the Rotary Club is having a Donation Distribution Day. The Rotary Club of Rylstone Kandos would like to invite any members of our community, especially those who are feeling the effects of hardship through drought, fires and COVID-19, to drop in to the Rylstone Memorial Hall between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Saturday the 1st of August and pick up items for your homes and families. On the day, you will need to bring along some shopping bags as many of the items are small and loose. The Rotary Club will have COVID-19 controls in place for your safety and your support of these rules and instructions is mandatory. So, come along to the Rylstone Hall with your shopping bags and pick up some goodies.

19.01.2022 Not Just Fences! The BlazeAid Trillions of Paddock Trees Program rolls out this week from our camps in the Upper Murray. This initiative aims to replace Paddock... trees lost to fires, drought and years of clearing. Paddock trees provide significant benefits for farmers including shelter from the elements for livestock and improvements to soil conditions as well as salinity and erosion management. The environmental benefits are also far reaching with shelter, protection and nesting sites provided to native wildlife. An exciting new partnership between BlazeAid and Albury company Plastic Forests gives us the ability to enhance our focus on environmental issues further with this project. Plastic Forests is an award winning Australian company which specializes in manufacturing recycled plastic products made from used soft plastics. We are trialing their innovative new pickets in this project. Volunteers are needed to plant trees in both Jingellic and Walwa starting this Wednesday. If you want to come and give a day or a few hours please phone Natalie Trigwell on 0497 717 605. Be sure to read our attached Weekly Update and contact Camp CoOrdinator Natalie Trigwell for further details. Email: [email protected] Mobile: 0497 717605

06.01.2022 It was standing room only for Olindas Bushfire Recovery Information meeting today. The agencies and organisations presenting included: Mid Western Council and... Clr Peter Shelley NSW Police Local Land Services Dept of Human Services Mudgee Vinnies Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health Western NSW Primary Health Network NSW Health Lifeline Landcare BlazeAid Thank you to all who attended to present and assist. There was also an acknowledgement of all the firies, volunteers, farm crews, heavy plant operators and community members who all pitched in to save lives and homes over a vast fire area. The list is too long to mention everyone who was thanked however the Olinda brigade and Michael Suttor got special mention, as did George Bucan whose exploits on the dozer are now legendary. All put themselves in harms way for others. In the case of Michael, his own farm was burning while he was out saving the property of other community members. Thank you to Michael, the brigade and Olinda Community for hosting todays event and organising the catering. It was wonderful. Here are a few shots of the day, and also some of Nullo Mountain. Twiggy the baby wombat also came along. If youd like some help with your community event, please give my office a ring on 6361 7138.
