16.01.2022 E S S E N T I A L F A T T Y A C I D S Essential fatty acids are required for a variety of functions in the body by supporting healthy brain and muscle development, heart function, assisting in lowering blood pressure, supporting healthy hormone production and for the health of our skin.... EFAs are not able to be produced in the body so we need to consume them either through or diet or in supplement form. One of the main reasons we love EFAs for our skin is because of their ability to maintain the structure of our cell membranes. Healthy skin cells mean that our cells can control what goes in and out of the cell, help our cells retain water (helping with hydration), the enzyme activity in the skin and how are cells communicate. EFAs are also important for the quality of oil that our sebaceous glands produce. 14.01.2022 P R O G R E S S Perioral dermatitis is an inflammatory rash that is seen around the mouth and nose. Red, raised, itchy, scaly and uneven skin are some of its characteristics. A hard condition to treat due to the huge variance in potential causes.... In this case we were able to pinpoint it down to skincare that wasn't very kind to the skin. Other causes can be hormones, stress, topical steroid creams, flouride toothpaste and cosmetics. These photos are taken only a few weeks apart. Treatment and home care was kept to an absolute mimimum with the goal to bring balance back to an impaired skin barrier. Please get in contact if you have a skin condition you are struggling with.
