05.01.2022 It makes me so happy to visit a client project one month after completion to find almost everything I’ve planted in full bloom, bees and native birds flying around the various plants, big smiles on my clients faces and stories of their weekend spent pottering amongst their new garden. In moments like these I am struck by how much I love my job as well as the people I get to meet and am so proud of the career path I’ve chosen. 04.01.2022 I love it when these guys start blooming as the weather begins to warm up again. Rhaphiolepis indica (Indian Hawthorn) one of the hardiest yet elegant and attractive ornamental shrubs you can add to a garden. Dark green foliage, beautiful bee-attracting white blossoms in spring and autumn. There are some interesting cultivars available which I use frequently in projects, such as: ‘Oriental Pearl’ which is a dwarf form and grows into a small pearl-shaped mound, ‘Oriental Pink’... which is dwarf and has pink flowers, as well as ‘Snow Maiden’ which has compact upright foliage that creates a vase-like plant shape, perfect for mass-planting along walls and narrow pathways beside a house. Will grow in first-line salt areas and can tolerate shade (though prefers full sun for better flowering). The Indian Hawthorn pictured here is one in my garden...I’ve been a bit busy of late so have not watered, fertilised or pruned this poor little guy but he still chuggs along as happy as ever!
