01.01.2022 How many of you remember the "Millennium Bug"? You know the Bug that actually was a real thing but could never have caused the chaos and catastrophes that many in the IT industries were promoting it to be? Just when I think people are getting smart enough to not fall for such tactics again, I get this email from what I thought was a reputable IT Firm - have a look if you want a laugh! Now correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure you will!) but the GPS system error margins in th...e 90's was to do with a deliberate adjustment by the original owners of the system (US Military) made so no-one else could use their systems against them. Even with some serious adjustments and calculations it was not able to be fully corrected without knowing the secrets of how the errors were being calculated in the first place. This effect was called Selective Availability or SA and it was in place until Bill Clinton decided in 2000 that it was time to share and play nice with the rest of the world and the system was finally turned off. Could there be a reset on the GPS systems, yeah that's entirely possible! Are all the GPS satellites left over from the days the US military was responsible, no I doubt that I suspect many more would be up there now as we use the system more! which of course means they will be newer technology and will have fixes in place for such "reset" events. So good on you Geeks2U! Just what we need another case of IT people driving scare tactics and giving all your customers out there even more reasons to question your ethics and trustworthiness! Ok ..
