25.01.2022 Today we celebrate Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850 - 1917) She was born Maria Francesca Cabrini on July 15, 1850, in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, in the Lombard Province of Lodi, then part of the Austrian Empire. She was the youngest of the thirteen children of farmers Agostino Cabrini and Stella Oldini.Only four of the thirteen survived beyond adolescence. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Catholic religious institute that was a major support to her fellow Italian immigrants to the United States. She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized as a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church, on July 7, 1946. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances_Xavier_Cabrini

21.01.2022 The Mass from St Anne's Church this weekend. 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

21.01.2022 About the Popes new letter.

17.01.2022 A reflection on last Sunday's Pentecost Mass by Sr Kym Harris osb and downloaded from www.prayasyoucan.com.au In the novel Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, the elderly pastor, John Ames, in musing over his life, notices how the word ‘just’ can mean something depreciative or something affirmative depending on how one views the situation. ‘There I was, with just you!’ Here ‘just you’ can mean ‘only you and what good was that to me?’ Not nice. Or ‘just you’ can mean ‘what more co...uld I have wanted, you and you alone fill me with joy!’ In the first stance, the speaker betrays begrudging acceptance, the second, openness to mystery, joy, abundance. In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus states that the Spirit will teach us ‘everything’. This is an extraordinary statement. I am very conscious of what I don’t know, about the world, about peopleand especially about God. And I’m sure you feel the same way too. Does this mean that the Spirit isn’t teaching me or you? This is how I get my mind around this conundrum: sometimes I wonder about how the ants in our garden view us. If one of us tried to teach an ant and the ant was just interested in its own anty world, it isn’t going to learn anything. But if the ant is interested in more, then it will find what little it learns would be just marvellous. The Spirit is trying to teach us. But if we try to conform the Spirit to just what we want, we will be disappointed - the Spirit will not be tamed. But if we are open to what the Spirit wants, we will be just surprised by joy, time and time again. This wooden sculpted tableau is in the Dominican church of St Rose in Springfield, KY.

17.01.2022 MASS RECOMMENCING ON 14TH NOVEMBER. After 112 days of lockdown, we are finally able to reopen our Church to celebrate Mass. We are subject to the restrictions in place from the Victorian State Government and will ensure the regulations are upheld in order to keep our community safe. We are reliant on Covid cases remaining low and will do everything to ensure parishioners are kept safe. Having said this, we will need your help to ensure Masses can run. As of the weekend of 14/...15 November, we will celebrate Mass for 20 people in St Anne’s Church at 5.30pm Saturday night, 8.30am, 10.30am,and 5.00pm Sunday night. We will take bookings from Wednesday 11th November for the spots available. We ask people to consider attending one Mass per week to ensure more parishioners are able to fit in to the limited spots available. We also need your help. We cannot run masses without cleaning after Mass. We need help with signing people into Mass and taking temperatures. We need help with ushering parishioners to the allocated seating. Unfortunately, we cannot remain after Mass to socialise. All Mass attendees over 12 years old must wear a face mask, sanitise hands before entering the body of the church (sanitiser is available in the foyer). Household members are able to be seated together, otherwise, seating will be in allocated spots for social distancing. We are very grateful for your patience and your prayers during this challenging time. It will be wonderful to gather together again. See more

16.01.2022 The Feast of Christ the King. Last Sunday of the Church Year. Next Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent in Year B.

16.01.2022 SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Reconciliation will be available next Saturday 7 November from 10am to 10.30am in the foyer of St Anne’s Church. Wearing of masks and social distancing are legally required.

14.01.2022 Today is the Feast Day of saints Simon and Jude. St Simon is often associated with Saint Jude as an evangelizing team; in Western Christianity, they share their feast day on 28 October. The most widespread tradition is that after evangelizing in Egypt, Simon joined Jude in Persia and Armenia or Beirut, Lebanon, where both were martyred in 65 AD. This version is the one found in the Golden Legend. He may have suffered crucifixion as the Bishop of Jerusalem. 14.01.2022 Welcome back to 8:30am Mass this morning Just a quick post to welcome Fr John back to St Anne's Church for the first 8:30am Mass in longer than we care to think about. Thank you Fr John Papworth SDB

14.01.2022 A reflection on this Sunday's Mass by Sr Kym Harris osb and downloaded from www.prayasyoucan.com.au How often Jesus compares the kingdom of God to a wedding feast, to a banquet, which in our terms would be a party. God wants us to enter into joy. In today’s Gospel we see two attitudes that stop us doing just that. Firstly, we see the people who were too preoccupied with their own affairs to come and enter into another’s joy. The farm, the business hinder their ability to shar...e the king’s happiness. Sadly those who did violence should alert us to the ability of anger to hamper our ability to enter into joy. On a graphic scale we saw this in the riots in the United Kingdom. Some have their achievements, others, the ones who did violence, had their anger. Often we hear people who have visited poor countries comment on how happy the people seemed in spite of possessing so little. That says a lot for what we think gives happiness possessions or achievements. Both these have their place in life but they are not the cause of happiness. For that we need a capacity to go out of ourselves and enter into whatever is positive about the situation we are in. 12.01.2022 A new hi-tech cashless "First Collection". The next time you come to St Anne's church you will be faced with a new hi-tech device. The purpose is to give parishioners a way to donate to the upkeep of our parish priest and to help pay for our retired priests. You will be aware that we can no longer pass the plate around at Mass so we rely on our parishioners to donate to the parish via automatic payment systems, envelopes (they're still a thing), or putting something into the... collection boxes in the foyer. The problem is that as no-one much carries any cash anymore, the "First Collection" for our priests, retired or otherwise is not doing so well. To try to fix this we have invested in a "Tap and Go" machine we call "Tap and Give". You simply tap the machine with a credit card or a smartphone setup for the purpose, and $5 is deducted from your account and it will show as a deduction on your bank account as a donation to "Sunbury Catholic Parish". If you already pay by bank deductions to the parish first collection account as well as the parish second collection account, or you use envelopes, feel free to continue. If the machine is busy one your way in, use it on your way out. If you want to put in $10, tap for $5 going in and do it again leaving. Any questions, ask one of our Mass Registrars, or Coordinators. 12.01.2022 Archbishop Peter A Comensoli reflects, 'Haven't we done a lot of waiting in these last several months!'

10.01.2022 Our Mass for the Feast of All Saints.

10.01.2022 A reflection on this Sunday's Mass by Sr Kym Harris osb and downloaded from www.prayasyoucan.com.au) This parable was directed at the religious leaders of Jesus’ time and can be said to be directed to the religious leaders of our time, that is virtually anyone reading this. Yes, I can see your head popping up: ‘Me? But I’m only (insert whatever you were going to say)’. Yes, but you are educated enough to be reading this. While you probably dismissed yourself as only a parent..., a catechist, a StVde P member yet, you, in some way, lead people. God has gifted you and this Sunday’s parable is a warning, a wake-up call to assess how you are using your gifts. In stressing the mercy of God, we can be mistaken in thinking this lets us off the hook concerning our call to serve seriously with our gifts. And what is the primary service that God desires us to reveal but the divine love and compassion in the world. We are the only face of God that most people will ever see. All around us the harvest is there: family members, neighbours, workmates. Now is the time to stop and consider: ‘In this coming week, what is a way that I can show God’s compassion to another person?’ It may be as simple as a phone call or a visit to a lonely person, the offer of lift to the doctor for a person with mobility problems, a meal to a sick neighbour. If you have trouble thinking of something simple that you could do, stop, pray and God will reveal an opportunity! 07.01.2022 As an old (literally) Blackfriars Priory School student, I couldn't let today go without a mention that this is the day the Church remembers St Albert the Great. It seems likely that Albert was born sometime before 1200, given well-attested evidence that he was aged over 80 on his death in 1280. Albert was probably educated principally at the University of Padua, where he received instruction in Aristotle's writings. In 1223 he became a member of the Dominican Order, and stu...died theology at Bologna and elsewhere. Selected to fill the position of lecturer at Cologne, Germany, where the Dominicans had a house, he taught for several years there, as well as in Regensburg, Freiburg, Strasbourg, and Hildesheim. During his first tenure as lecturer at Cologne, Albert wrote his Summa de bono after discussion with Philip the Chancellor concerning the transcendental properties of being. In 1245, Albert became master of theology under Gueric of Saint-Quentin, the first German Dominican to achieve this distinction. Following this turn of events, Albert was able to teach theology at the University of Paris as a full-time professor, holding the seat of the Chair of Theology at the College of St. James. During this time Thomas Aquinas began to study under Albert. Albert was the first to comment on virtually all of the writings of Aristotle, thus making them accessible to wider academic debate. The study of Aristotle brought him to study and comment on the teachings of Muslim academics, notably Avicenna and Averroes, and this would bring him into the heart of academic debate. 06.01.2022 THIS WEEKEND (30th and 31st May) SATURDAY AND SUNDAY MASSES CANCELLED. This is so sad. For the second time we have to cancel our celebration of Fr Kevin's Golden Jubilee.

06.01.2022 The Ready, Set, Pray! Children’s Liturgy of the Word @ Home video series has been created to provide an engaging space for families to encounter Jesus through the Sunday gospel. Each week includes an invitation for families to create and gather in their own prayer space, to sing, hear the Gospel, pray and respond creatively through an activity. This weekly resource follows the familiar Children’s Liturgy of the Word format provided in many parishes but moved to an online se...tting. It can be used by families in their homes, and also by teachers and catechists. The series consists of 10 weekly sessions of 15-20 minutes duration, commencing from Sunday 18th October and continuing each Sunday until Christmas. We hope this experience of gathering for prayer will encourage families in this time when they cannot gather for parish celebrations of Eucharist. It is produced by Proclaim: The Office for Mission Renewal at the Archdiocese of Melbourne. https://www.youtube.com/playlist

06.01.2022 Last Friday, May 21 was the 30th anniversary of Josephite, Sr Irene McCormack’s death whilst serving as a missionary in Peru after 25 years of service to Catholic education. The link below is to a prayer video compiled by student leaders from 4 Catholic schools who reflect of the gift of Sr Irene’s life as a life offered for love of God and love for the poor of our world. As our young leaders powerfully suggest, hers is a life and legacy for all of us to honour and feel affir...med in our own calling to be followers of Christ in our everyday lives. We invite parishioners to reflect on this prayer video during this weekend or on any other appropriate day that follows in remembrance of Sr Irene and all those who offer their lives for love in overseas missionary service, especially during these COVID-19 times. 04.01.2022 Today the Church celebrates St. Faustina Kowalska, the "Secretary of Divine Mercy". Maria Faustyna Kowalska (born Helena Kowalska; 25 August 1905 5 October 1938), also known as Saint Maria Faustyna Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament and popularly spelled Faustina, was a Polish Roman Catholic nun and mystic. Her apparitions of Jesus Christ inspired the Roman Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy and earned her the title of "Secretary of Divine Mercy". The Second Sunday of Eas...ter was established by Pope John Paul II as Divine Mercy Sunday. The Catholic Church canonized Kowalska as a saint on 30 April 2000.The mystic is venerated within the church as the "Apostle of Divine Mercy". Her tomb is in Divine Sanctuary, Kraków-agiewniki, where she spent the end of her life. 04.01.2022 Feast of Saint John Paul II (1920-2005) John Paul II's cause for canonisation commenced one month after his death with the traditional five-year waiting period waived. On 19 December 2009, John Paul II was proclaimed venerable by his successor, Benedict XVI, and was beatified on 1 May 2011 (Divine Mercy Sunday) after the Congregation for the Causes of Saints attributed one miracle to his intercession, the healing of a French nun called Marie Simon Pierre from Parkinson's dise...ase. A second miracle was approved on 2 July 2013, and confirmed by Pope Francis two days later. John Paul II was canonised on 27 April 2014 (again Divine Mercy Sunday), together with Pope John XXIII. On 11 September 2014, Pope Francis added these two optional memorials to the worldwide General Roman Calendar of saints. It is traditional to celebrate saints' feast days on the anniversary of their deaths, but that of John Paul II (22 October) is celebrated on the anniversary of his papal inauguration. 04.01.2022 A reflection on this Sunday's Mass by Sr Kym Harris osb and also very apt for Mothers Day. As is the image. Downloaded from www.prayasyoucan.com.au "Soaking up being loved by God isn’t easy. We want to justify our existence therefore, before God, we focus on our concerns in a myriad of ways. We want to be busy about our own anxieties, even if they are our own sins, or worse the sins of others. But over and over, Jesus commands us, even pleads with us: ‘Remain, abide in my lov...e!’ Yes, all our concerns do need to be dealt with but if we think we can do them by ourselves or with even a little help from God, we are crazy. We have to ask ourselves whether our ways of praying and doing aren’t paying lip service to the reality of our utter dependence upon God’s love. The true way to love ourselves and each other is to abide, remain in God. It is a good practice to begin each day, resting, abiding, remaining in the love of God for just a few minutes. The radio can wait, as can the TV and internet. The troubles of the world will still be there. But resting in the love of God for those few moments can be a source of the richest grace to live and love throughout the coming day." See more

04.01.2022 Here is the latest update from the Parish to let you know how we are going at this time.

03.01.2022 BUILDING OUR PARISH COORDINATING TEAM (PCT) We have struggled through this Pandemic and with the help of the Spirit we will come out of it. What our lives will be like will no doubt be different. Many people I have talked with have commented that as individuals they are really missing the contact with others from across our Parish. As a Parish we have continued to engage through our on-line Mass, contacts on Telephone and Zoom, assisting families farewell their loved ones an...d many other ways of being present with one another. I believe that as a Parish it is a good time now to engage, plan for our future and be ready to welcome one another back in whatever forms we are able. In coming weeks, I will invite individuals and Parish Groups to nominate a representative to join with myself and Sr Jose and Lyn to come together as a Parish Coordinating Team. We plan to bring the team together using the Zoom technology and use it initially to provide some formation. The Parish Coordinating Team (PCT) consists of the Parish Priest together with individual parishioners and delegates of Parish Groups invited to represent our Parish community. The role of the PCT is to promote the Parish mission to live and communicate the love, values, and teachings of Christ in our world. The PCT shares in the responsibility for the ongoing life and development of our faith community, working together with parishioners to provide support for their efforts to live as followers of Christ. I look forward to working with the various representatives to build the Team and work towards our Parish Vision Christlike relationships of friendship and faith, valuing one another and sharing our gifts for the good of all I will keep you in touch with who the members of the team are and their activities. . 02.01.2022 Archbishop Peter talks about the feast of St Joseph the Worker.

01.01.2022 Feast Day of St Jerome. St Jerome is best known for his translation of most of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate) and his commentaries on the Gospels. Jerome is recognised as a saint and Doctor of the Church by the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Lutheran Church, and the Anglican Communion. His feast day is 30 September. 01.01.2022 Feast Day for today. Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus (1873 - 1897) Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin was born in Alençon, in France, on 2 January 1873. Her mother, who already had breast cancer, died when Thérèse was four, and the family moved to Lisieux. Thérèse became a nun at the Carmelite convent there at the age of 15, after a long battle against the superior, who insisted that 16, or even 21, would be a more sensible age. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 24. She... was canonized in 1925, the Pope having suspended the rule that forbids canonization less than 50 years after someone’s death. 100 years after Thérèse’s death, Pope John Paul II declared her a Doctor of the Church, joining St Catherine of Siena and St Teresa of Ávila. Don't read the sugary, sentimental books, read what she wrote. The Story of a Soul is still in print in most languages. 01.01.2022 Latest message from Archbishop Peter A Comensoli

01.01.2022 20 THIS WEEKEND, PRAY FOR 100 NEXT WEEKEND While we hope and pray that this weekend will be the last where only 20 can gather for Mass, we need to understand that it may be a longer time before we can sing at Mass. Possibly until a vaccine is rolled out. This is because when the churches were re-opened in much of the USA earlier this year, many congregations that were built around very passionate and loud community singing became virus hot-spots that resulted in many deaths. At the moment we can't sing hymns inside our church, or even sing the people's responses during Mass but again we have to wait until Sunday afternoon to see what if anything changes.
