18.01.2022 Today marks the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on its traditional fixed date of September 8, nine months after the December 8 celebration of her Immaculate Conception as the child of Saints Joachim and Anne. The circumstances of the Virgin Marys infancy and early life are not directly recorded in the Bible, but other documents and traditions describing the circumstances of her birth are cited by some of the earliest Christian writers from the first centuries of the Church. Happy Birthday Mother Mary!!

17.01.2022 Today the feast of St Simon and St Jude. Jude is renowned as being the patron Saint of hopeless causes, the abandoned and desperate. He was the brother of James the Less and a close relative of Jesus. He was martyred with Simon the Zealot in Beirut, Lebanon and his body was brought back to Rome and buried under St. Peter’s Basilica. His patronage of lost causes stems from the belief that few Christians invoked him for misplaced fear of praying to Christ's betrayer, Judas Isc...ariot, because of their similar names. Simon is often named Simon the Zealot or Simon the Cannanite. He lived and died during the same period as Jude some writers have him being martyred with Jude. Simon is the only Apostle mentioned by name in Muslim works as a helper of God’s work. He also, like Jude travelled great distances to the same area to preach God’s word. Some writers have them working as a team St Jude and St Simon, pray for us

10.01.2022 Today is All Souls' Day, an opportunity to commemorate the faithful departed. We pray for the souls of people who are in Purgatory - the place in which those who have died atone for their less grave sins - before being granted the vision of God in heaven. Pray for us Prayer for the Dead God our Father,... Your power brings us to birth, Your providence guides our lives, and by Your command we return to dust. Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, Their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family, relatives and friends and for all the dead known to You alone. In company with Christ, Who died and now lives, may they rejoice in Your kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again in one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever. Amen.

08.01.2022 The Season of Creation starts today, with the World Day of Prayer for Care of the Environment. Pope Francis has established 1 September as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, encouraging the Catholic community around the world to pray for our common home. The day is inspired by Pope Francis encyclical Laudato Si, which calls on "every person living on this planet" to care for our shared Earth.... There are many ways to respond to Pope Francis call to care for the gift of Gods creation why not take some time out of your day today to walk in your local park or take a few moments to thank God for the flowers growing in your garden?

08.01.2022 Today is the feast day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta who became known as Mother Teresa. Born in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, she moved to Ireland and then to... India, where she lived most of her life. In 1950 she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which had over 4,500 sisters and was active in 133 countries. She described their work as caring for the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for, people that have become a burden to society and are shunned by everyone". Teresa was admired by many for her charitable work and received a number of honours including the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Ronald Reagan and the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was canonised on September 4, 2016, and today, the anniversary of her death is her feast day. She is the patron saint of World Youth Day. Mother Teresa pray for us. #teresa #motherteresa #saintteresaofcalcutta #worldyouthday #MissionariesofCharity #feastday #catholiclife See more

07.01.2022 Today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which recalls three historical events: the finding of the True Cross by Saint Helena, the mother of the emperor Constantine; the dedication of churches built by Constantine on the site of the Holy Sepulchre and Mount Calvary; and the restoration of the True Cross to Jerusalem by the emperor Heraclius II. However the feast, more than anything else, is a celebration and commemoration of Gods greatest work: his salvific death on the Cross and His Resurrection, through which death was defeated and the doors to Heaven opened

We thought some of our families may be interested in reading the Bishops perspective.
