25.01.2022 Dear Parents & Carers, Check your inbox or your Flexischools App for the latest Parent Update! Kind regards, Ross

24.01.2022 Welcome back to term three...once more we find ourselves working to prepare for remote learning from the beginning of next week. We plan to use our experience from the last term to ensure further improvement in student engagement during this remote learning period. Can all parents/ carers please check your inbox for messages updating the community on arrangements for this coming term. If you have not received an email, please contact me directly at [email protected] Kind regards, Ross

24.01.2022 Last Thursday evening our annual twilight sports carnival took place in perfect racing conditions! There was great excitement and anticipation as we commenced our sprints, with the seniors leading the way, but the highlight is always the Prep Sprints! There were a variety of novelty relays to keep the crowd entertained, and three parent races (one for mums and two for dads!!) and the always adorable toddler races! In the end, the victors were Xavier House (Red) for the first time in several year. Thanks to Mrs Stevens and staff for their organisation, our Fabulous P&F for the catering and icy poles, Jarad Gilson and staff at Oaklands Productions for the sound and to all our families for participating in such a brilliant community event!

23.01.2022 As we are all at home on Family Friday, please check out this article on our water supply.

23.01.2022 Finally...this morning we welcomed back all our students!! There was singing, there was dancing, there was joy, there was celebration!!! (The students and staff took a vote...Mr Williams is NOT allowed to dance and sing on morning drop off duty from now on!!)

23.01.2022 Yesterday 11 of our Year 4 & Year 5 students took part in a special First Eucharist Reflection Day. They prayed, reflected, asked questions and shared a meal together, all in preparation for their special day on Sunday May 30th. Thanks to Mrs CB and Mrs Joiner for planning such a meaningful day for our children!

23.01.2022 Today saw great success for our inter-school swimming team, with EVERY competing student winning at least one ribbon in their events! A particular highlight was Erin and William winning ribbons in events they mistakenly swam in! What a day!

22.01.2022 Dear Families, We are looking forward to seeing all the Prep, Year One and Year Two students return to the classroom tomorrow, while Years 3-6 continue with remote learning. As we have made some changes to the morning drop-off routine, please discuss these arrangements with your child before school starts tomorrow. All students arriving in the car park (from 8:35am onwards) will need to depart the vehicle by themselves. Drivers will not be able to get out of their vehicle t...o farewell students. We understand that there may be some tears or anxious moments (for both parent and child!) however we have made these arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of all in our community. Alternatively, parents can park in Opal Court and farewell their child, who will then walk (unaccompanied) through the gate and into school. At the end of the school day, you are asked to park away from the school netball courts and walk into this space to collect your child. Staff will supervise the dismissal of students at the end of the day. Kind regards, Ross

22.01.2022 Congratulations!!

22.01.2022 Can you believe it is the last week of term? A massive thanks to all the families in our wonderful community who have contributed to the learning that has taken place this term. I think it is fair to say that everyone- staff, students and parents, have learnt a great deal this term!!

21.01.2022 Families who are currently part of our school community will soon receive an email regarding Term 2 and the delivery of Online Learning. Please check your Inbox and Spam folders. If you know we do not have your current email address on file, please email or private message it to us so we can add you to our parent mailing list. Thank you and stay safe everyone

20.01.2022 Well... the first day of home learning with a wet day playtime. The students will still benefit from a movement break between activities, so please consider a physical activity for your child to complete inside.

20.01.2022 Today our 5/6 Basketball Team travelled to Dandenong for the Hoop Time State Finals. We won our first game by 4 points before being narrowly defeated in the remaining 3 games. There were 4000+ teams in the Victorian competition and our team made it to the top 30 in the state today. Go OLOL!!!

20.01.2022 Our first images of 'Learning in Action' for 2020! Today we feature two classes completing Literacy sessions, and two classes engaged in Mathematics- there were some intense place value and counting games taking place in the 1/2 classroom!

20.01.2022 Thanks to Mrs D, 5/6WD have been learning all about these 'Golden Oldies.' On Friday the class met (online) with author Lisa and met with some of these superstars. We encourage you to look through this page and ask your Year 5/6 child about these 'Golden Oldies!' Thanks, Mrs D & Lisa, for finding an engaging way of working together!

19.01.2022 Thanks to Jackson Taylor, we will have some awards to hand out at school in week two! Thanks to the teachers who creatively weaved this writing task into our remote learning! 17.01.2022 Sshhhh....Something is happening next Friday!! Dear Parents, Next Friday, 28th August, we will be doing something a bit special!... We will send further information early next week...but I can say that it will be a day committed to Wellbeing. It will be a day where students will be asked to have a break from the internet and from online learning. It will be a day for engaging with family, having a break and even engaging in 'Old School' activities like cards, board games, etc. Hopefully, we can also organise some nice weather for your one hour of exercise!! Watch out for further updates early next week. Kind regards, Ross P.S. We also have a little (secret) plan for Father's Day. More information will follow next week!

17.01.2022 Today 11 of our fastest runners braved the cold weather to take part in the Bayswater District Cross Country event held at Bayswater Secondary College! Thanks to Mrs Sheffield and Mrs Dunstan, Mr Williams and all the parents who were able to come along to cheer our runners on! We even bumped into one of our 2020 Graduates, Luke, who was nice enough to pose for a picture with us!

15.01.2022 Happy New Year! Welcome to the 2020 school year! A reminder that you can still book for Year 1-6 assessment interviews online- follow the prompts from the newsletter or school app. Classes commence on Thursday for all students (Preps finish at 12:30pm this week only). 12.01.2022 A wonderful evening of carols and celebration of our school year. Thanks to all the students for the entertainment, staff for the preparation and our community for embracing this event on a warm evening! It was also great to see so many familiar faces- past OLOL students and families remaining part of our strong community!

12.01.2022 On Wednesday night our Year 6s celebrated their Graduation with a meal together, Mass and Presentation Ceremony. Thank you to all who were able to attend to support these wonderful young people as they move on to secondary school. And thank you to the students themselves for being an important part of the OLOL family for the past (in most cases) 7 years! We will miss you!

11.01.2022 The ACARA 'MySchool' website has been updated to include 2019 NAPLAN results. I always caution parents that these results are a snapshot of individual performance over three days in May. The collective data, however, can give an indication of the success (or otherwise) of curriculum programs. Finally, we can share the results that have come through staff and student commitment and dedication to improvement! (Note: Click on Compare to Australian Students to see the cell colou...rs). The Year Three results reflect the students participating in our 'Learning in Action' curriculum for their entire schooling. Please feel free to 'Click & Compare' the Year Five student progress page to see their improvement over the last two years! It's nice to be able to share and celebrate student and staff achievement! https://www.myschool.edu.au/school/45971/naplan/results

10.01.2022 Our 'Learning in Action!' this week finds the senior classes working on improving their Literacy skills in focus groups, while the juniors are practising handwriting and reading about "Monkey Shoes!" Our Specialist LOTE Italian class is also featured on a Thursday.

10.01.2022 2019 Camp Day 03!! Following a peaceful, relaxing nights sleep our campers began the day with bacon, eggs and hash browns for breakfast (we could get used to this!). Our last activity group rotation involved archery and rogaining, followed by some more free time to spend with friends. Following a camp reflection activity and lunch, we will be on the bus and heading back to school. We expect to arrive back at school by 2:15pm. Students are free to go with their parents, as long as they have seen their classroom teacher before leaving. Thanks to all at Wombat Corner Camp (particularly Patrick, Jordan and Peta the chef!), and to our spectacular teachers Mrs Sheffield, Mrs CB and Mr Brendan Williams for attending camp full time, and to our visitors Mrs Dawson, Mrs Browne and Mrs Brearley!

10.01.2022 Stay safe, Stay at home! Thank you to everyone working to keep us safe!Stay safe, Stay at home! Thank you to everyone working to keep us safe!

09.01.2022 Today we celebrate World Teachers Day, 2020!! We are so very fortunate to have the greatest staff that invest in the education, faith and social development of our students. In a school year where many parents have been side by side with their children during remote learning, I am sure you agree that we are lucky to have some of the best teachers ever!!

08.01.2022 Family Friday!! We hope all our families have the opportunity to 'Stop, Drop (off the internet) and Roll (with the good times!)' today as we take a 'Community Wellbeing Day.' We look forward to seeing all students in their morning meetings on Monday!

07.01.2022 Remote learning continues... While much of our 'Learning in Action' has moved online this term, there is still plenty happening at OLOL!! The students have spent time learning about the influence of Mary Mackillop on education in Australia, for which we have a lot to be thankful!... The staff have been working with students through planning activities, meeting online and giving feedback to students to improve future performance. We are also aware of the importance of maintaining strong connections within our student community, as demonstrated through the celebration of 100 Days of School for the Preps last week! It's also that time of the year again when we start planning for our 2021 Prep intake of students. If you have a prospective Prep student for 2021, please call the school on 9729 3411 to arrange a 'Virtual' School tour and Q&A session.

06.01.2022 Welcome back to school in Term Two! Our school term started today for students, and it looked very different to normal! It was great to interact with staff and students online in our Google Classroom sessions and Google Meets. I will try to update the Facebook page more regularly this term- obviously, there won't be so many photos, but we will keep you up to date on the 'Learning in Action!'

05.01.2022 Wow- The end of week two already? We have had a wonderful start to the school year- we expect all out students (and staff!) to sleep very well tonight! We have proudly welcomed our 23 new students in Prep and across the school in 2020, and our Year Six students are proudly wearing (in air conditioned comfort!) their Year Six Leaders Hoodies.... Watch out next week for our first round of 'Learning in Action' posts. Also, would you believe that school tours for Prep 2021 & 2022 are being booked already!! With strong numbers in our Junior School (and a waiting list for places in Prep-Year Two this year) we anticipate strong interest in our Prep program. If you know any friends or family that are interested in a school tour, please tell them to contact the office.

04.01.2022 It only seems like yesterday...but it was last Wednesday!! What a fantastic way to celebrate and engage in learning as our students attended an excursion to Scienceworks- for our Prep & Year One students (& Miss Yeowart!) it was their first official excursion! As the pictures show, we had a great day visiting the planetarium and interactive exhibitions and displays. We can't wait to do it all again soon!!

04.01.2022 We made it!! This afternoon brings a close to Semester One, 2020. We will reflect on this time as an opportunity for growth and change in the way we work together as a community for the benefit of our students! A sincere thanks to all our families for your support during the first half of the year, as well as to our wonderful students, who have demonstrated increased independence, resilience and confidence in their learning. Finally, thanks to all our staff for their efforts to deliver faith, academic and wellbeing outcomes both in the classroom and in the loungeroom during this semester! A reminder that school finishes today at 1:00pm. We hope you have an opportunity to rest and relax over the holidays and look forward to starting Term Three on Monday 13th July.

04.01.2022 A great local cause for our community!

04.01.2022 Welcome Back! Our first morning back at school has been very successful! A massive thank you to the parents who prepared the students so very well for the new drop off arrangements- there were no tears and only a few anxious faces on parents as they drove off! It was great to see the excitement on faces as the students gathered in the corridors this morning! The students have settled into the classrooms this morning, and staff are teaching them all about new classroom routin...es with hand sanitisers and 'snuffle stations!' These new routines and the clear instruction on personal hygiene habits will be of great benefit as we enter the cooler, winter months! Meanwhile, The students in Years 3-6 continue to participate in remote learning- there are several Google Meets scheduled over the coming days in different class and learning groups. Finally, the weekly newsletter/ update email will revert back to Wednesdays starting this week.
