20.01.2022 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud, there came a voice, This is my Son the Beloved; listen to him. (Mark 9:7) On this eve of the Feast of the... Transfiguration of the Lord, we have woken up to the news of a devastating explosion and tragedy in our homeland, Lebanon. As if the political and socio-economic situation was not enough. As if the coronavirus and its effects were not enough. As if the regional instability and tension were not enough. The explosion that took place in the early hours of the evening last night at the Port of Beirut has resulted in hundreds of people who have either lost their lives or sustained great injuries, lost their homes, their livelihoods and their loved ones. This morning we have woken up to a scene in Beirut that has broken our hearts, a scene reminiscent of the civil war, a scene reminiscent of Hiroshima and its devastation. We don’t understand why this tragic event should happen in our beloved homeland. Of course, we all have many questions and are asking what more, what next, how much suffering can the Lebanese people endure before they see the bright light of the Transfiguration? In the midst of all these questions and as the cross of the Lebanese people gets heavier and heavier, let us stand united in prayer for our beloved country and its suffering people. Let us always remember that we are the people of the Transfiguration and that although we have woken up to a cloud of darkness and despair, we are all hope that the cloud of our Lord will overshadow this darkness and we will be reminded to always look to him and listen to him, especially during this time. He is the one who shows us how we can use our cross as a ladder to reach the joy of heaven and eternal life. He is the one who by his cross conquered the darkness of this world and transfigured the light of the resurrection in our lives. Let us all join together, putting all our differences aside and be guided by the light of the Transfiguration to be able to support our families in Lebanon and to be united in prayer. I urge you for the next three days to light a candle each day for Lebanon and its suffering people. For all those who have lost their lives, those who are injured, those who are still missing, and for every intention that you can think of as you witness this devastation. We pray that through the intercession of Our Lady of Lebanon and all our Maronite Saints, the cloud of the Transfiguration will arise in the lives of the Lebanese people to wipe away the cloud of the darkness of the explosion and the terrible situation that Lebanon is in. 10.01.2022 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ On the 1st of February 2020, our Maronite community was saddened by the loss of 4 young children of the Abdallah and Sakr f...amilies in a devastating accident in Oatlands, NSW. In the days that followed, Australia, and even the world, were inspired by the reaction of the families, and their forgiveness towards the driver who killed their children. To commemorate this tragic accident and the 4 young children lost on that day: Antony, Angelina, and Sienna Abdallah and Veronique Sakr, the families have launched I4Give Day as a national day of forgiveness to be celebrated on the 1st of February of every year. They wish for this day to become a day when we search deep within our hearts and forgive any person who hurt us, and also a day to ask for forgiveness from any person whom we wronged. As forgiveness is a core Christian value, our Maronite Eparchy of Australia is also endorsing this day and joining the Abdallah and Sakr families in marking I4Give Day, praying for forgiveness and healing. On the evening of the 1st of February 2021, all our Maronite parishes in Australia will hold adoration. Priests will be available for confessions and spiritual guidance. 09.01.2022 COVID -19 has definitely made 2020 a challenging year, however nothing can stop the fulfilment of the merciful work of our Lord Jesus Christ. As He said, ‘And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.’ (Matthew 16:18). Heaven on Earth continued to provide feeds throughout the pandemic, we were fortunate enough to be able to celebrate our Christmas parties at Parramatta and Liverpool with our less fo...rtunate brothers and sisters in Christ. Christmas hampers were prepared and handed out to the homeless, to those in Cumberland Hospital and to struggling families. We sincerely thank all, especially James Hardie, for the generous donations of items to fill our hampers and baskets. A special thank you to all the members, volunteers and supporters of Heaven on Earth. Their continuous dedication of time, effort, generosity and financial support is never ending and truly appreciated. Through this dedication, we have also been able to: Support 469 families in Lebanon, Mother Teresa’s Convents Lebanon and Laloma Home Orphanage Fiji Finally, from the team at Heaven on Earth, we wish you all a Happy New Year!
