23.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day

23.01.2022 15 May - Blessed Feast of Our Lady of the Harvest! In the Maronite Church there are three unique feasts that celebrate Mary, they are Our Lady of the Seeds, Ou...r Lady of the Harvest and Our Lady of the Grapes. On May 15, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Harvest. The Syriac Churches developed the earliest Marian theology, focusing on typology, symbolism, creation and the Incarnation. There are textual records of these feasts from the fifth and sixth centuries in the Antiochene Church, but tradition maintains their origins go back to late apostolic times. 22.01.2022 Announcement to Mary Sr Margaret Ghosn mshf This Sunday’s Gospel passage is the announcement to Mary. Her response is very different to Zechariah. Let’s take a ...closer look . . . The angel comes to a small house in the town of Nazareth. This is in contrast to the angel’s first appearance in the holy sanctuary of the Temple but it serves to show that God is present everywhere. The angel comes to an unknown young woman, and not only to holy priests, for God’s Good news is for all. The angel greets Mary with the words, ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you’ (v28) a special endearment, not reflected in the initial encounter with Zechariah. Mary’s response was perplexing and pondering (v29), very different from Zechariah who was terrified and overwhelmed by fear (v12). From the first words, Mary is open to what lay ahead. She was prepared to listen. When the angel explains the purpose of the visit, Mary does not object but simply asks, ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?’ (v34). She is seeking clarification in contrast to Zechariah who doubted, ‘How will I know this is so? For I am an old man, and my wife is getting on in years’ (v18). Their questions differ, their attitudes differ. Mary seeks direction whereas Zechariah wants proof. Mary could believe in miracles. Zechariah couldn’t. We can add here that when Mary is told about Elizabeth’s pregnancy, she doesn’t doubt or question, but accepts this to be so, and rushes to be by her side. Mary and Elizabeth are in contrast to Sarah who was promised a child with Abraham in their old age, but scoffed at the mention (Gen 18:9-12), whereas Elizabeth was accepting of God’s will. Where Zechariah is struck mute, Mary gives voice to God’s workings, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word’ (v38). Mary freely chose to be part of God’s idea. She accepted and believed God’s will was best. It is the women, Mary and Elizabeth, who show the correct response to God. May we too learn to listen with open minds and welcoming hearts. Amen

22.01.2022 Sunday of the Announcement of the Virgin Mary Lord, Mary said to you, Behold the Handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to Your word." She accepted your will despite her fear and confusion. As we journey towards the season of your Holy Birth, may we always look to the example of Mary in our lives, teach us to live a life full of grace, listen with open minds and welcoming hearts to the path you are calling us to, so that with Mary Your Mother, we may also sa...y Yes to Your Will. Amen

20.01.2022 Ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Charbel Dib | Saturday 28 November 6:00 pm at Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral

19.01.2022 Feast of St Raymond St Raymond was born in Palestine, in Caesarea, where he was ordained a Deacon in his village. He was always preaching the word of God, despite the Roman Emperor’s persecution of Christian’s in the East and West. Despite having his tongue cut, he would still continue his preaching. He was eventually martyred in the year 303. St Raymond serves an an example for us, to never cease in proclaiming the word of God, despite the consequences it may have. St Raymond, Pray for us!

14.01.2022 St Michael the Archangel All Archangels are Spiritual Beings and are among the highest of ranks created by God. Each are given a name depending on their mission. Michael means 'Who-is-like-God'. St. Michael was empowered by Our Lord to cast out Satan (Lucifer) from Heaven for challenging the sovereignty (power) of God. St. Michael and His Angels fought and defeated the dragon (Satan) and the fallen angels, and they all were no longer in Heaven (Rev. 12:7-8). Hence, St. Mic...hael is our constant defender against the evil one with a powerful intervention as recited in the St. Michael prayer. St. Michael the Archangel, I ask for thy intersession by the will of the almighty God, to protect the Maronite Youth from all doings of the evil one and his deceitful ways, protect us in the days of battle, be always by our side guiding our actions and words to arise from love and compassion. Clear our conscience of all fear and anxiety, fight all spirts of ruin in our families, mind and hearts which lead us away from sanctifying grace. By your glorious sword, protect the Church from all harm and strife, guide us always to serve the will of God. Amen
