25.01.2022 Love Reading at OLR... An end of term celebration for an enthusiastic and insightful group of book lovers at OLR. Senior students and teachers meet once a week to participate in lively discussions about a book that they have all been reading. The students have loved the variety in the books this year. Just another way that we promote a love of reading at OLR .



25.01.2022 Junior Fun Run The rescheduled Junior Fun Run was held today. Each student participated and was encouraged to do their personal best despite their fitness level or running ability. Thanks to the Year 6 students for encouraging the junior runners and to Mr A for ensuring that for ensuring that the day ran smoothly.

24.01.2022 Junior Fun Run: The OLR Fun Run is a series of short yet challenging runs to promote the importance of fitness and health to our students and the OLR community. We also use the Fun Run as a tool to develop our students Inner Coach and to face challenges and obstacles as opportunities for growth and development.

24.01.2022 100 Days of Prep: There was much excitement on Friday as the Prep students celebrated being '100 Days Smarter' on their 100th day of Prep. The students joined in with lots of fun activities and dressed up as though they were 100 years old.



24.01.2022 Virtual Assemblies: We're still enjoying assemblies every Friday morning even though they're not in the CCC. It's lovely to hear the National Anthem being sung throughout the school and the sound of clapping from every classroom as we celebrate the Student of the Week awards.

21.01.2022 Farewell Mr Oberthur: Today we started our farewells to Mr Oberthur with a "Dress like a Principal day".

21.01.2022 Problem Solving at OLR: 4C are enjoying the WeDo Lego kits. They are building models and then coding them to move in different ways. Who knew that learning to solve problems could be so much fun?



21.01.2022 Senior Fun Run: Our Seniors enjoyed their cross country fun run and each student was encouraged to pursue their personal best. Thanks to Mr A for organising two excellent mornings.

20.01.2022 Peer reading session in 2K: The students read their amazing Innovative writing pieces to their friends. They wrote their stories based on the story by "Dougal the garbage dump Bear" by Matt Dray.

19.01.2022 2021 OLR Principal: We are excited to welcome John Bates to the OLR community. John is currently the Principal of St James Primary in Coorparoo and will be joining us as School Principal in 2021.



19.01.2022 Junior Athletics Club: Students in Year 1 to 3 met at the oval before school to start their athletics preparation and improve their fitness. Thanks to Mr A and several senior students for coaching our younger athletes.

18.01.2022 Farewell Mr Oberthur: Yesterday we celebrated Andrew's 12 years of leadership with a special farewell assembly. We were joined by Andrew's family and special guests as we celebrated in prayer and thanksgiving.

18.01.2022 Oh my goodness, mealworms! In Year 2 things are growing before our very eyes. As part of our science unit, we are studying the life cycle of the mealworm. They have grown in length and have started to become really active. Soon they will change into their pupa stage. Watch this space to see what they finally end up being!

17.01.2022 Music at the Arts Festival: The Arts Festival on Friday finished off with some amazing performances by our very talented students. Well done everyone! Money from free dress was donated to the Archbishops Appeal for Catholic Agencies.

16.01.2022 Junior Athletics Carnival: Our Prep to Year 3 students participated in the Junior Athletics Carnival today. Students were encouraged to do their personal best in every event and we're so proud of everyone for trying so hard. Thanks to the teachers and Year 6 students for ensuring that the day was a success.

13.01.2022 QC Cup Netball Both on and off the field, the OLR Netball teams made us proud! Their teamwork and hard work before and during the QC Cup netball competition was amazing. Thanks to Mrs Day and Mrs Grieves for coaching the girls.

13.01.2022 Cross Country Champions: Congratulations to our Cross Country Athletes of the Year, Ethan and Amelia. The OLR community is proud of both of you! Well done Kendall House for claiming their third Cross Country trophy in one of the closest point finishes.

13.01.2022 Arts Festival: Each class put up a beautiful display of their artwork and students had the opportunity to walk around and admire all the wonderful masterpieces. We really did missed having our parent and grandparent visitors this year!

12.01.2022 Virtual Travellers! In Japanese this week our Year 6 students explored the beautiful city of Kyoto, Japan, from the comfort of the classroom. To complement our Travel Unit, we used the Google Earth app to zoom in on various sightseeing spots and explore street views of the city. Students were also highly engaged in a virtual tour of Kinkakuji (The Golden Pavilion), successfully managing to not bump into fellow 'travellers' as they roamed the classroom! The beauty of virtual travel - no queues or crowds!

11.01.2022 A beautiful message from one of our parents: I am actually teary right now; having received a baptism card and gift from all of Hunters class and Miss Tine. I cannot even begin to express how grateful and blessed we feel to be part of such a beautiful school culture. Especially during this difficult time that the OLR community would even think of such a generous act of kindness and support. Sending our biggest love and thank you back to Miss Tine and 1B class & parents.

11.01.2022 Prep English: The Prep students have been using the text Handa's Surprise as a focus for their learning in English. The story is about a little girl who fills her basket with delicious fruits for her friend in the neighbouring village. To mark the end of the unit, P2 children made delicious ice-blocks using the delicious fruits mango, banana, strawberry and pineapple.

09.01.2022 1K made rain sticks after learning about Noah and the story of re-creation. The sound of the rain was to represent the rain God sent to create the flood, and the colours on the rain sticks represented the rainbow God sent to Noah as a promise to never to destroy creation again. The students loved the activity with lots of hammering, gluing, colouring and laughter.

07.01.2022 OLR staff enjoyed a Spirituality Day exploring the distinctive features of a Catholic school. It was an opportunity for each staff member to connect with colleagues and reflect on "What makes a School Catholic?". Thanks to Kerry Bird from BCE for facilitating the day and to our APRE, Tracey Horan, for organising and ensuring that the day was enjoyed by everyone.

07.01.2022 Kenmore Rotary presented OLR with a Peace Pole, symbolising Hope for Unity, Hope for Equality and Hope for Peace. This Peace Pole is in honour of World Peace Day which is celebrated on 21 September each year. Our Peace Pole has the message of peace written in English, Japanese, Spanish and the Jagera and Turrbal Indigenous language.

06.01.2022 Fathers' Day Stall: There is great excitement at school as the students go shopping at the Fathers' Day stall. Thanks to the P&F for organising the lovely variety of gifts and to the parents helpers for volunteering their time.

06.01.2022 Meet Mr Bates, our school Principal. His favourite thing to do each day is visiting classrooms and seeing the great things that are happening around the school. John joined our school at the beginning of this year and says that OLR is an authentic Catholic community made up of staff, parents and students who support each other within a safe and nurturing environment. The OLR staff take the art of teaching and learning very seriously and are always keen to improve practic...es that benefit their students. John loves watching and playing sport and is a tragic Broncos fan who is super keen to see them become successful again. 04.01.2022 Tech savvy Year 1 students Every child in the school has access to their own technology device and here, Year 1 students master the keyboard (only Year 4 -6 take their devices home).

04.01.2022 Coding fun in Year 3. Year 3 students started working on their Computer Science understanding and skills through completing a range of coding activities in their Digital Technology lessons using the code.org online coding program. Each student uses problem-solving skills to find solutions to complete a variety of tasks. Students are learning to write instructions using visual coding blocks and to 'debug' when there is a problem!

03.01.2022 Year 2 Peer Feedback: Students were involved in a peer feedback session they read each others innovation on the text Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear and shared 2 stars and a wish with their partner/author of the story. The stars were things they liked about their partners writing and the wish was something they thought might help to improve their partners writing. Well done Year 2.

03.01.2022 Year 6 Mini Fair: Term 3 ended off with the festivities of the annual mini-fair. Not only did all the students have fun taking part in the many activities organised by the Year 6s, they also raised $2 200 for the charity, Pushing Barriers. Pushing Barriers is a local charity that supports youth with a refugee background through sport.

03.01.2022 The Year 1 students made dragon sculptures as part of their art studies relating to form and shape. After reading the text A dragon moves in, the students created their own dragons from clay. The experience of getting their hands gooey and messy and transforming a blob of clay into something creature like was enjoyed by all.

02.01.2022 Catholic Education Week: This week we celebrate 175 years of Catholic Education in Queensland and Year 2 were asked to draw a picture of why they love being part of the OLR community.

01.01.2022 Year 1 Japanese: Students are learning about sports this Semester. They have looked at the traditional Japanese sport of Sumo and even made their own Sumo wrestlers and wrestling ring.

01.01.2022 It’s time to meet Mrs Hurwood, one of our Year 2 teachers. Claire started at OLR in 2000 but has been away for the past three years and is now back and loving it! Both her daughters were educated at our school so she has many memories both as a teacher and as a parent. When asked what she loves most about her job, Claire replied I love the children in my classes, past and present. Each one holds a place in my heart and I really enjoy seeing them grow into young adults sometimes they are hard to recognise but I always remember them at the age they were when I taught them. 01.01.2022 Year 5 Candle-making: The Year 5 students created candles displaying an image and a scripture passage representing the attribute of a special person in their lives who embodies a gift or fruit of the Spirit such as wisdom, kindness or faithfulness. Thanks to the wonderful School Officers who helped the students & parents, Mr & Mrs C for the materials and excellent advice.

01.01.2022 Year 2 are experimenting with Chemical Science this term. Today they became Mix Masters and tested three experiments. One mixture was by a Chef, one by a Magician and one by a scientist. Which looked the yummiest, which was the most surprising and which was the easiest to predict?
