25.01.2022 CLASS OF 1977 REUNION On Thursday 23 March, 41 women from the Class of 1977 gathered to celebrate their 40th reunion at the College with a welcome and tour, before heading off for dinner at the McKinnon Hotel. Thanks to Leonie Malane and Monica (Beer) McCaffrey for their work on behalf of their classmates; also Madeleine (Stewart) Scanlan, Anne (McCarthy) Halsall, and Maree (Sierak) Supple. ... Francine (Haire) Duncanson summed up the general feeling: It was a fantastic evening and we all chatted loudly without fear of being sent to the Principals office! The 1977 alumnae were very impressed by the three Flame Scholarship girls who acted as student ambassadors and tour guides: Genevieve Gallucci, Georgia Sheppard, (both Year 11), and Maxine Viado (Year 8), and did a spontaneous whip around for donations to the fund. Collectively they contributed over $200. Thank you, Class of 1977, for your generosity. Jazmin Oakley, (Year 11), was also there as photographer. Thanks to all concerned for helping to make it a great night.
21.01.2022 Class of 2000 Alumni catching up last Friday at the College celebrating their 20 Year Reunion.
17.01.2022 50TH REUNION FOR THE CLASS OF 1967 A bright sunny morning set the tone for a very happy golden anniversary reunion of members of the Class of 1967. More than 30 ladies crowded into the library for morning tea, a welcome address by Principal, Anne OLoughlin, a presentation of a special gift and then a tour.... Many had travelled considerate distances including from Ararat and Maffra, and also New South Wales and Queensland. All agreed it was well with the effort to renew their acquaintance with the College and to catch up with classmates, some of whom they had not seen for decades. Three current students: Genevieve Gallucci, Ashley Watters and Danielle Simpfendorfer, did a great job as College Ambassadors and tour guides and their uniforms were much admired in contrast to the old brown and gold Brown Cows uniform of the 1960s. The alumnae continued their celebrations over lunch at Fabulous Fine Food in McKinnon and all resolved to have more regular catch ups now they had re-connected. Maureen (Barry) Steele summed up the day when she said: We had a wonderful Saturday meeting up with the rest of the girls. Many thanks to OLSH for the lovely welcome and hospitality. Names for the group photo will be posted in the next day or so.
15.01.2022 SR ELAINE COCHRANE AND SR ELAINE TROY Just for the record, two Sr Elaines are associated with OLSH College Bentleigh. Sr Elaine Cochrane is a 1954 alumna and for many years carried out missionary work in Papua New Guinea and other locations. She is currently living in Bentleigh and is a Director of the College Board.... Sr Elaine Troy is from Queensland and was Principal at Bentleigh from 1982-1989 and before that was Deputy Principal. She is currently living at Kensington. We honour and value both Sisters for their dedication to the education and care of young women and for their contribution to OLSH College Bentleigh. It was Sr Elaine Cochrane who recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

15.01.2022 1963 ALUMNA VISITOR FROM CANADA Gerrie (McNamara) Wonnacott, 1963, has flown in from her home in Ontario, Canada, on the other side of the world back to Melbourne to catch up with friends and to re-visit her old OLSH stamping grounds. On Monday 6 March, she and Verion Stroud, 1968, came to see how much the College has changed and to make some donations of items from their school days to the Archives.... Gerrie was only one of four girls who did final year studies at OLSH in 1963 when the graduation year was called Matriculation. She was happy to find her name listed on the College honour board as the 1963 Dux and, after taking a photo for proof, said about certain unnamed doubters in her family: Theyll have to believe me now! One of the highlights of Gerries visit has been a lunch with 16 of her 1963 classmates which Liz Hume organised at the Dingley International. Starting in the back row on the top of the staircase, from left to right, we have: Barbara Warren Smith, Helen Holly, Bev Smith, Cheryl McMahon. Eileen Horan, Janet Bailey, Jenny Tucker, Barb Drew. Marie James, Helen Fields, Anne Martin, Kitty O Kelly. Gail McGuire, Liz Carter. Liz Child, Gerrie McNamara and Mary Calleja. Gerrie has lived in Canada since 1969 and was last back in Australia 15 years ago. She said the best thing about coming back to Melbourne was renewing friendships with classmates. In four simple words, Gerrie said it all: OLSH roots are strong.

12.01.2022 1957 THOSE WERE THE DAYS This photo of beautifully groomed OLSH girls from 60 years ago is one of the treasures in our Archives. Despite the demure appearance of these girls with their blazers and gloves, they are actually wearing their sports uniforms.... Girls from that era say these were very heavy pleated affairs which needed to be ironed into shape. They also state that they only began winning their netball games once a new lighter sports uniform was introduced in the mid-1960s. These girls are from the Class of 1958. Back row (L-R): Margaret Tynan, Anne Marie Julie, Susan Child, Janice Trencher. Front row: Barbara Cox, Judy Arnold, Margaret Tonkin.

03.01.2022 MASS IN ST JOSEPHS PARK, 1953 St Josephs Park, located opposite OLSH College Bentleigh in Jasper Road, was well known to many of the older alumnae. That was where sports days were conducted, as well as special events like this mass. It was also a great place to run around and let off steam during lunch times with pretend games of hockey.... However, in the mid-2000s, the land was redeveloped into a new convent for the sisters. They moved there on 20 November 2007, leaving the old convent vacant, but not for long. The chapel continued to be used for staff masses and also for Religious Education classes, and other spaces were put into service as offices and classrooms, including one that begins as a LOTE room and then became a dance studio. Student Services also occupied a whole wing and wonderful work supporting special students was done there. Now, 10 years later, the old convent itself has been redeveloped with a refurbishment of the chapel and other heritage rooms, and it has been extended to create a new OLSH Centre. Completion of this exciting new resource is just about done, so stay tuned for further news.
