25.01.2022 This Sunday 29 November at the 9.30 am Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral, Bishop Charles will bless a plaque commemorating Father Angelo Confalonieri and affix it to ...the wall inside the Cathedral. Father Angelo Confalonieri, 1813-1848, was the first Catholic Priest in the Northern Territory and Missionary to the Aboriginal people of Cobourg Peninsula. In conjunction with this ceremony, local members of the Order of Malta are arranging for a number of items associated with Father Angelo’s life to be on display at the back of the Cathedral.

24.01.2022 Chen was just 16 years old when he lost both of his legs as a result of a landmine accident. Unable to go to school and visit his friends anymore, Chen had star...ted to lose hope when Bishop Kike offered him a home at the Arrupe Centre, a home for children and young adults with disability. The Arrupe Centre provides a safe home, education and career opportunities for people like Chen as there is still stigma and little support for people with disability. Without the Centre, many children would not be able to access education and would have limited job prospects in their future. You gift today can help the Arrupe Centre continue this vital work reaching out and helping to empower others like Chen.

22.01.2022 This week our Grade 5/6 students had a visit from NET Ministries Australia. The young team of missionaries spent time with the students at school and the next day enjoyed a retreat day at the youth centre.

21.01.2022 [-O-] NAIDOC WEEK [-O-] Today I returned to primary school, we had morning check in, story time, recess, a guest speaker, art, lunch and then Religion. During a...rt class Jose (the art teacher) had told us we were painting to celebrate NAIDOC week. He painted the one on the left as the example and we had to copy it. How great is it!? Amazing hey! My painting is on the right. You’ll notice my painting isn’t finished, it’s got pencil lines for future directions, it’s by no means perfect, but I am so happy with it. After some reflection, I feel it represents our need for true reconciliation and unity with our Indigenous brothers and sisters. We have made great steps forward, but like this painting, we aren’t finished yet. There is so much more to be done. We need to pick up the paint brush and continue on. The beauty is that the people are what make the picture. Just like life. We need to celebrate each other. Always. I feel honoured to be spending this NAIDOC Week across a few countries and I acknowledge this land always was, and always will be traditional aboriginal land. Happy NAIDOC week everyone! -Kathryn

19.01.2022 Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary September 8, 2020 This feast has been celebrated at least since the sixth century. While an account of her nati...vity is not recorded in the Sacred Scriptures, we know that she was born. We celebrate whom God has called her to be and remember her great faith. The Church celebrates the nativity of three key figures in salvation history. 18.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day. There are two types of people who wait for this day to come around. 1) those struggling who are waiting for someone to ask RUOK? ... 2) those who have noticed someone struggling and just needed the reminder to ask (and to know how to ask) RUOK? You can reach out everyday. But why not use today as your reason. Trust the signs. Reach out. Change a life. Save a life.

15.01.2022 On 13 September 2007, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The Declaration establ...ished a framework of universal minimum standards for the well-being and survival of Indigenous people around the world. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) Article 3 states: Indigenous peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development. Our approach places self-determination at the heart of everything we do. Working only by invitation, where communities design and own the activities, Community First Development facilitates genuine buy-in and long-term results. Through our work, we see people develop pride in their achievements and want to share their successes, achieved through self-determined actions.
