It's a beautiful sacred space in recognition of the wonderful work of the Sisters of Mercy who established our little school all the way back in 1926.

19.01.2022 Today was such a great day! Our Year 5/6 class put together a travel expo as part of their combined HASS, English and Technology unit. They had been researching all the amazing qualities behind their chosen country in Asia, which culminated in a fabulous travel expo for family, friends and students. Each student created their own travel brochure, poster and some even went to the effort of cooking some traditional food to create an amazing atmosphere. Well done Year 5/6. 17.01.2022 Today our Year 6 students attended the Mayoral Leadership Summit in Emerald as part of the Central Highland's initiative to build capacity of our future leaders. This year's guest speaker was Lachie Smart who was the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a single engined aircraft. Such an inspiration in teaching us we all need to fail in order to succeed and to set goals and dream big. Our leaders also presented during the summit and pitched the idea of an off leash dog park for Springsure. Well done boys and girls, you did OLSH and Springsure proud!

We were even treated to some impromptu magic from Fr Truc, which especially delighted our kindy friends! We finished off our morning sharing some cake and holding our traditional game of parents and teachers vs students in touch football, which this year was won by the teachers and parents in a close battle. Thanks everyone for a wonderful morning!

13.01.2022 This week we were gifted this beautiful painting from the OLSH Parish. It is a painting of one of the original OLSH churches done by Sr Vicky and kindly donated back to Springsure by Sr Joanne Molloy RSM, Sisters of Mercy Archivist. Sr Joanne explains the story behind the painting below: "Sr Mary Sant, formerly Sr Mary Victorina, was a member of the Springsure community from 1964 to 1967 and again from 1969-1972. 'Sr Vicky' as she was affectionately known, was the cook for th...e Sisters and the young boarders who attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, Springsure. Sr Vicky endeared herself, not only to the boarders and the Catholic community, but to many people in the local community. When she wasn't busy preparing meals, Sr Vicky found time for many artistic pursuits and involvement in various leisure activities. Her gardening skills were well-known and she took home many prizes at the local show for her roses as well as for her paintings. From the writing on the back of the frame, Sr Vicky painted the former Springsure Catholic Church in 1966. Sr Vicky is particularly skilful in depicting detail on buildings and this skill is clearly evident if one compares the painting with a photograph of the same building. The Sisters of Mercy are very happy to return this painting to the Catholic community of Springsure in the hope that its presence might be a reminder, not only of the former church, but also of Sr Vicky who loved the people of Springsure. With her inimitable spirit of fun and enjoyment, Sr Vicky lived out her Mercy commitment with love and compassion for many children and their families. Sr Vicky has retired from active ministry and is a resident at Bethany Home, Rockhampton."

03.01.2022 Tuesday 4 August, the former Rockhampton Sisters of Mercy Congregation celebrate their Foundation Day. It was on 4 August 1873 that the coastal steamer the Lad...y Bowen made one of its regular calls at the little port of Rockhampton. Among the passengers were Sisters Mary Vincent Whitty, Xavier Kenyon, Benigna Desmond, Mary de Sales Gorry, Beatrice Ryan, Malachy Carroll and a postulant, Bridget Whelan. The Sisters of Mercy went on to establish and staff Catholic schools throughout the Diocese and founded their Health and Aged Care Ministry in Central Queensland, with all continuing today. We give thanks for the faith, courage, commitment and pioneering spirit of these amazing women. Please keep the Sisters in your thoughts and prayers today as their work continues through many of our schools.

01.01.2022 This week is Catholic Education Week. It's a week where we embrace everything that embodies the kindness, generosity and spirit of our faith. Tuesday we held a Pyjama Day to raise funds to give back to our local community. So today, we wrote cards and delivered them to the businesses around town. We raised enough funds to put on a morning tea for our amazing hospital staff. And lastly, a little bit of footpath art to help spread kindness. Thank you to everyone in town for your commitment and service to this wonderful community. We're lucky to have such great people here!
