22.01.2022 Hey everybody In the last few weeks, lots of cafes and restaurants have re-opened their doors for dine-in service. Its been a long time since weve been able to welcome you into our cafe to serve you our coffee in beautiful ceramic cups and food on lovely plates. Weve been busy refurbishing our tables and chairs eagerly awaiting your return. Given the recent news of restrictions maintaining, we have made the tough decision to hold off for just a little bit longer... we pr...omise it will be worth the wait. As always, we appreciate your continued support throughout this crazy time. We are still open for take-away coffee, food and coffee beans. PS. Sorry if we gave you false hope during the week. We were as excited as you were at the prospect of opening up for dine-in service. We cant wait to be able to do this, we just want to make sure that all of our staff and customers are safe and relaxed when they come into our home away from home. Love, team Omar. @ Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird

22.01.2022 Hey all! Hope youre all coping with all that Stage 4 has brought us. The local community (within 5km) has never been so important. Its the small things like a quick Gday when you walk past a neighbour on your hour of exercise that make us feel human. Remember when we could just smile at a fellow exerciser walking past? Now we have to remember to actually say Gday, otherwise it just looks like youre staring at them. Our mates @skipapp are doing their bit to help you get through your days. Why look a gift horse in the mouth?

21.01.2022 Coffee classes are on! We have limited availability over the Christmas and New Years period, so get in quick. The Brew Class goes for around 45 minutes with a maximum of 6 participants. You will learn how to master non-pressurised brewing methods for French Press/Plunger, Clever Dripper and Gold Mesh. Great for any coffee enthusiast who is confused about the myriad coffee making devices on the market.... The Espresso Training is for a maximum of 2 people and goes for approximately 1 hour per person. You will learn how to make consistently delicious espresso at home. The course covers coffee grinding, tamping, flow rate, extraction, milk frothing, and machine maintenance. Great for those of you who have a machine at home and could use some pointers to get the best out of it. Check out our website for available dates and times, or to grab a gift card for the coffee enthusiasts in your life. https://www.coffeebird.com.au/next-door-bookings #NextDoor #spacehire #meeting #training #meetingroom #coffeetraining #coffeetrainingschool

19.01.2022 Hi all you lovely people. So, you might have heard that cafes and restaurants are allowed to have customers dining in as of today. What you may not have heard, or read, is the 33 page document containing the guidelines for table service distributed by the Department of Health. These guidelines lay out best practice for the reduction of transfer of COVID-19, which is good. The guidelines recommend a type of service that is not very efficient, relaxed or welcoming, which is bad.... All froghurt may or may not be cursed. We have made the decision to continue serving takeaway items only, until we can welcome you all in to the cafe and offer the type of service we all want. What we have done is changed the way you can pick up, and wait for, your takeaway coffee and food. You can stay inside with us, where its warm and cosy as long as you maintain physical distancing rules, which keep you and our team safe. Thanks for the continued support throughout this crazy time. Team Omar.

14.01.2022 We are excited to announce the release of our new coffee menu. It showcases some stunning coffees from Colombia and Kenya. 14.01.2022 As you may or may not know, we are still operating as a takeaway only venue. As much as this hurts us, financially and emotionally, we feel its the right and responsible thing to do to ensure the safety and comfort of our staff and you, our beloved clientele. So many venues have opened and are doing their best to maintain cleanliness, social distancing and safety for their teams and patrons, but we have noticed a general struggle to keep up with extra requirements while maintaining a relaxed and comfortable environment. We have chosen to hold off until we can welcome you all back in to a comfortable Omars, the one we all know and love. As always, we thank you for your continued support. @ Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird

11.01.2022 So, we’ve been waiting and waiting to pick the right time to launch our new coffee training business Next Door. We’ve decided that the right time is not coming anytime soon. We definitely can’t do on-site trainings with Stage 4 restrictions and we’re not sure when we can get started. What we can do is let you all know that we will be using our favourite espresso machine, the La Marzocco Linea Mini, to conduct the espresso trainings. We are also happy to let you know that we a...re a proud member of the La Marzocco Neighbourhood, enabling us to improve your coffee game at home by selling these machines to you. There’s no point having an awesome machine like this at home if you don’t know how to use it, so we will also be throwing in a one-on-one espresso coffee training (when we are allowed to) along with some other goodies like delicious coffee. The machines are not cheap, currently RRP $5,990, but like all things in life, you get what you pay for. These machines are built to last and can be passed down from generation to generation with the right upkeep and maintenance, which we’ll teach you how to do. We want you drinking great coffee wherever you are. We’ve always told you to master the non-pressurized brew methods like plungers and filters at home and enjoy espresso at cafes. This is because great espresso takes a lot of work and needs the right machinery. Most domestic espresso machines are just not up to the challenge. The La Marzocco Linea Mini is made out of the same commercial parts used in the industry standard Linea. If you’re wanting to make espresso coffee at home, this is the way forward. Get in touch for more info. Thanks @lamarzoccohomeau for working with us. We couldn’t be more proud. @ Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird

10.01.2022 Our first socially distanced tasting in our new space Next Door. Instead of traditional cupping we brewed coffee with the @ezicafsolutions gold mesh filters so we didnt need to share any cups or utensils. The topic of the tasting was quality and we discussed how the difference between high quality produce and the rest is the effort that goes into every aspect of it. We tasted our new coffee offerings alongside a coffee bought from the supermarket as a baseline for compari...son. We also tasted our milk from @alcheringadbfarm against a mass market milk product. I am pleased to say that our products really stood out for their high quality and deliciousness. We often forget how lucky we are to be surrounded by such high quality produce and tasting the rest is a welcome reminder. We are so proud to be serving the beautiful products that we do, sourced from like-minded producers. High quality produce doesnt just happen and we are so appreciative of the extra work, effort and knowledge that goes into producing it. Quality produce is wasted if its not made sensitively and we pride ourselves on letting the produce shine through. Our M.O. is to buy the best and try not to screw it up. If you are wondering about which coffee to buy for home, just tell us a bit about how you drink it and well make sure you get the right coffee for you. @ Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird

07.01.2022 Did you know that October 1st is International Coffee Day? It’s day to think about the complex coffee chain. So many people working hard to give us something simple, our beloved daily cup of coffee. You might have heard about the coffee supply chain, but what is it? It’s the long list of people involved in bringing you that cup of coffee. It includes all of the people involved in farming: agronomists, fruit pickers and processing staff. It then continues to freight and logis...tics staff (this may or may not include donkeys), warehousing staff, exporters, dock workers, shipping companies, importers, roasters and finally you, the consumer. Each and every step along the way involves people. People are the most important part of the coffee chain and we certainly work with some awesome examples. It is a bit hard to think about organising all of these steps ourselves, so we have a strong relationship with our importers, who have strong relationships with their exporters, who have strong relationships with.... you get what I’m trying to say?!? We’ve been lucky enough to see how each step of the coffee chain works and have learned enough to let people focus on their part of the chain. We support the supply chain by understanding it and not trying to undercut it. Each step is so important! Our suppliers have enabled our education of the coffee chain. The most exciting part of our education has been visiting coffee farms. One such farm in Ethiopia produces the major component of our beloved Black Blend. Tade GG farm is owned and operated by Tesfaye Bekele, a trained Agronomist. Coffee from this farm is always a delight to work with (and drink!!). It’s really well processed and tastes deliciously sweet, clean and bright. We have bought this coffee through our suppliers at @sucafinaspecialty_asiapacific for the last 7 years and I can’t see why we’d stop. It’s amazing what happens when people work together to produce and deliver something amazing. Want to taste it? Head to our website (link in bio) to give it a go. #internationalcoffeeday #icd #melbournecoffee #melbournecafe #melbournecafes #specialtycoffee #coffeeroasters #coffee #coffeeroasters #clickforvic

07.01.2022 In amongst the whirlwind that is 2020, its also Omars 10th birthday tomorrow, in fact! Ten years of trading in this fantastic little community in Gardenvale. Not only is it the smallest suburb in Victoria, but its also full of the most lovely people. Its because of you our local and loyal patrons that weve made it this far. We hope and plan to be around for many more years in this, our home away from home. In July 2009 we received keys to 124 Gardenvale Rd, Garden...vale. Over the following 12 months, we placed all of our money and energy into renovating this beautiful old building. We opened the doors in July 2010 to the dulcet tones (not!) of the entire road being pulled up to replace the stormwater drains. We had no traffic down the road for the three following months. Still, we survived thanks to our supportive local community and our desire to follow through on our mission statement, which was to get people excited about coffee. Ten years later and people are DEFINITELY excited about coffee! Our updated mission is to demystify (AKA de-wankify) the complex world of coffee, focusing on how to make it at home, simply. We have set up a coffee training space next door to the cafe to help us achieve this stay tuned for more info on that. We thank you all for ten years of love, support, chats, hugs and coffees and for your patronage while we navigate these weird times. We really hope to be able to celebrate our 10th birthday with you all in-person, someday soon. @ Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird

03.01.2022 Looking for a Father’s Day present? Look what’s just arrived from Japan. We can’t wait to be able to serve your coffee in these beautiful cups again. The good news is you (and dad) don’t have to wait. You can use these lovely cups at home that help make your everyday cup of coffee even more of a pleasure. We love them for their mix of earthy and smooth textures and the delicate lip. So good! We miss being able to create the atmosphere around your cup of coffee. These cups will help you enjoy your coffee at home with some extra feel good. Pick them up in store or grab them online.

03.01.2022 Hey all you lovely people. Just an update on all things Coffee Bird Stage 4. I promise theyre there Just a reminder to you, our amazing extended family (within our 5km extended home) that... we have all of the coffee equipment and advice you could ever need as well as our delicious staples including @alcheringabdfarm biodynamic milk, @oatly oat milk, @originalbonsoy soy milk, @gateauxbymf pastries, @bakery_lievito bread, @zokoko_chocolate chocolate powder and @littlebertha_ free range eggs.
