12.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL QUEENSLAND DRIVING INSTRUCTORS PLEASE SHARE. After lots of discussion with TMR I received this email this morning. I have removed TMR staff names from the end of this message.... Following your conversation with Andrew Mahon about this matter, I wanted to let you know that TMR will be sending the following advice to the ADTA, and to all driver trainers later today. All Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) customer service centres remain open, but mobile customer service units are closed. TMR also has on-line services available with many customers choosing to use those services. As you would be aware, practical driver licence testing delivered by TMR for light and heavy vehicles has been suspended from 28 March for three months (unless otherwise advised) and this has been communicated to both customers and industry. Driver trainers need to make their own decisions on how they operate based on the latest advice provided by the Queensland Government. TMR does not have the authority to direct driving schools and instructors to cease performing driving lessons. We encourage you to keep up to date with the latest health advice, assess your risk, and make an informed decision that is right for your business. Please refer to: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/ TMR will continue to provide you with updated information relevant to your industry as it becomes available. Please contact us if you have any further questions. 08.01.2022 TO ALL DRIVING INSTRUCTORS Some helpful information from NSW ADT. Please feel free to copy and Paste using your business name. I would like to inform you that at this stage my business Omega Driving School will continue to run and provide our clients with driving lessons.... The NSW DTA has taken on board the National position from ADTA as well as NSW Health and NSW Transport and given to its members some best practice suggestions and advice to conduct the business responsibly, as follows: We suggest for all driving schools Following good hygiene practices is especially crucial. You also need to use good judgement when giving lessons whenever they were booked. Please adopt this regimen: Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly all day. Carry a hand sanitizer. Wipe all car interior surfaces down with a disinfectant product like wipes or sprays Ask all Lesson Clients the following: o Have they experienced flu-like symptoms such as fever, aches, coughs, runny nose or sneezing in the last 5 days? o Have they recently travelled from any other country in the last 20 days? If yes to either, please advise them they should reschedule for a later date. Take note of any sneezing or coughing clients and accelerate hygiene practices. Provide portable hand sanitizers and offer them to your lesson customers. Here is a helpful factsheet for workplace advice from SafeWork NSW (13 March 2020). NSW Transport has also issued this Coronavirus statement on their website on 16 March 2020 about general health and safety practices they have adopted and how the public should respond. https://nswdta.com.au/covid-19/ As the greatest priority at this time is the health and safety of the driving learners and myself, as a driving instructor, I strictly follow the above suggestions by increasing cleaning and personal hygiene practices and by taking extra precautions as advised. I constantly check NSW DTA and NSW Health sites for updates and advice, and in case there is any restriction/ban in the run of my business I will inform you as soon as possible. Many thanks, Milton Kolas Omega Driving School Carindale QLD

07.01.2022 Did you know: The orange coloured lights on the outside corners of your car are known as INDICATORS. They are operated by moving the stick either on the right or left of your steering wheel column up for LEFT and DOWN for right.... These lights should be activated when: . Approaching a corner. Preferably 30 to 50 metres before, and wherever possible indicate then brake. . At least 5 SECONDS, before moving from the kerb. . And at least 3 SECONDS before LANE CHANGING or MERGING. . BEFORE pulling into the kerb to park. Contrary to most people’s beliefs, you need to indicate even when in a specifically marked lane, and before you enter a turning lane. Drivers can’t read minds, that is why you have indicators on your car. Indicating also reduces ROAD RAGE. Oh and by the way just because you are indicating to do a lane change, YOU DO NOT HAVE RIGHT OF WAY, do not move across until it is safe, and to avoid late lane changes, position early to avoid doing a late lane change. Make our Roads Safer.
