21.01.2022 OMGA, an organisation of 300 Victorian doctors, is appalled by health ministers comments about Dr Higgins. Dr Higgins followed all the protocols and health ministers comments are misplaced and unwarranted. General practitioners and other healthcare professionals are at the coalface and these poorly informed comments do not do any good to anyones morale in these difficult circumstances. We urge the Health minister to immediately retract her comments.

15.01.2022 OMGA #Docs4firies The evening was set alive with some peppy hindi and english songs by our very own amazing OMGA SARGAM singers, who got everyone on their feet! On the serious side, the Fundraiser event was a grand succes!

15.01.2022 There is no alternative to breast feeding for the new born baby. Despite all the fuss..breastfeeding rate in Australia is 25%. We are aiming to increase to 40% ...by 2022 and 50% by 2025. Can we really achieve that rate by not doing any active steps ? Breast milk increases baby immunity and protects baby from so many infections. In addition it reduces chances of food allergies. Furthermore it help in promoting mother's health in many ways. Government needs to take active steps to promote breast feeding....It is never too late...Take the right steps now..

10.01.2022 "I have parents say to me: I dont want to confuse my child by speaking two languages. Parents are always worried--speaking two languages at home may cause confusion to their child and may cause speech delay. Often parents are told by some health professionals not to speak two languages with their child. These are all myths. There are a lot of myths that dual-language learning causes language delay in children, would confuse the child, or that bilingual children are less ...intelligent than monolingual children or reducing to one language would improve a childs chances for success. It is far from the truth. Research indicates bilingual children have social and cognitive advantages over monolingual children. Bilingual children can ignore distractions and focus their attention on important information. please read my article and dont miss the chance to improve your childs potentials. Get them ready for the multilingual world as early as childhood. See more

08.01.2022 Impact of Lockdown in Children Mental Health...an untold story

07.01.2022 Stuttering is relatively common condition affecting 1 in 100 Australians. It generally starts in early childhood between 2 to 4 year of age. Around 70% of children recover naturally within a few years. If stuttering persists into adulthood it can cause associated social and anxiety-related difficulties such as avoiding talking in front of the class, fear of using the telephone, negative self-image. Children may be mocked or bullied because of their stuttering, even in the pr...e-school years. Stuttering is legally a disability in Australia and in many other countries. If your child starts stuttering, it is recommended that you see a pediatrician and speech therapist as soon as possible. Please read my article--do pass on the families in need--may be helpful for them

07.01.2022 Our OMGA Doctors generously participated in the VANDE BHARAT MISSION, to perform the pre boarding medical checks and COVID screening for the passengers on the many special Air India flights from Melbourne to Delhi last month! On duty at the airport from 3am in the morning, they were diligently screening and doing temperature checks on approx 250 passengers for every flight over many days. Kudos to their efforts and generosity Thanks to the Indian Consulate General for working closely with us and giving us the opportunity to serve. A proud moment indeed !

06.01.2022 MY MEMBERS STATEMENT IN PARLIAMENT FOR OMGA DOCTORS I gave the following statement in the Victorian Parliament on 18th August 2020, regarding the medical profes...sionals in OMGA group: "COVID-19 is a once-in-a-century pandemic - a global health crisis - that has impacted our lives significantly in many ways. I have acknowledged here earlier in Parliament, the work of all our frontline and essential workers who have ensured that we remain safe during this pandemic and get our daily essentials. It is important to acknowledge our healthcare workers, including our medical doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Our healthcare workers continue to risk their own lives to ensure they protect the lives of others. As at 17 August 2020, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria was at 17,027. Of the total COVID-19 cases recorded in Victoria, the total number of healthcare workers infected were 2,376 and the total active cases of COVID-19 in healthcare workers were 1,064. There are a large number of health professionals from an Indian and South Asian heritage, who are actively practicing in various clinics and hospitals across our Victorian state. Currently there are many organisations and healthcare providers working tirelessly, to support Victorians to remain safe. One such organisation I would like to personally thank today is 'Overseas Medical Graduates Association (OMGA)'. Under the leadership of Dr Raj Khillan, Dr Raju Yerra, Dr Geetha Venkatram and other medical doctors, OMGA today is a 350-member organisation of medical specialists and general practitioners from various South Asian countries, with about 95 per cent from India. OMGA was established in Victoria as a unique platform for all overseas trained medical doctors to vocalise their concerns. It aids in facilitating the smooth transition of new overseas medical doctors in the Australian healthcare system. OMGA has been carrying out many philanthropic works and have contributed $57,000 towards Premiers bushfire relief fund in 2020. OMGA also hosts regular social and cultural events, fundraising events raising awareness of maternal health, regular education conferences, and a health education campaign being run through print and broadcasted media. Through group, they provide support to the victims of domestic violence in Victoria. This support is much more needed during COVID-19, due to increasing incidence of domestic violence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, OMGA doctors are working overtime to help keep Victorians safe. In addition to their normal daily duties, they are also providing free medical services to many people who are not covered under Medicare - who were or are stranded in Australia during pandemic, with international travel coming to a standstill. OMGA doctors also provided free medical services in form of screening passengers travelling back to India from Melbourne, on mercy flights organised by Indian government for stranded Indians in Australia through the . I would like to thank OMGA doctors for their valuable contribution in Victoria. Overall, the contribution of all Indian and South Asian doctors to the Victorian society - in metropolitan, remote and regional areas - is commendable and praiseworthy. Thank you all for looking after us." You can read this statement on Victorian Parliament's website - https://beta.parliament.vic.gov.au//HANSARD-974425065-7840/ #KaushaliyaMP

02.01.2022 On 10th October, World Mental Health Day, my heart goes to children--who never say I am sad, I am depressed, I need help.We parents need to be extra careful to read the subtle cues which young children show during this time and support them. Ask for help if your child behavior is changing......................do listen to my interview about Impact of Lockdown on children mental health and its solutions.......Tomorrow at 5.30pmEach year 1 in 5 Australians in general will experience a mental illness. Many people are not knowledgeable to identify their needs.During COVID-19 it is likely to affect large numbers of Australians due to lockdown induced social distancing and financial pressures.
