22.01.2022 Twenty years ago, World Milk Day was established by the food and agriculture organisation of the United Nations to recognise the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector. Each year since, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people. Raise your glass today to show your support for our dairy industry. Cheers.

20.01.2022 FARMERS LOSE OUT ONCE AGAIN In last Fridays carefully worded press release there is little mention of the millions left owed to farmers still waiting to be paid for their liquid gold sent in April. There will be a massive ripple effect as we all have families to feed and the bills dont stop rolling in. We have all worked extremely hard transitioning our farms to organic (at a substantial cost) so this has come as a massive kick in the guts to us and the handful of Tasma...nian farmers who also supplied ODFA. As of close of business on Friday things took a turn for the worse for ODFA leaving us scrambling to make alternative arrangements for our milk over the weekend. Thankfully we are now guaranteed payment for Junes milk supply due to another milk company stepping in to save the day.

20.01.2022 After 20+ years it is time for us to move off the farm. As of July 1 we will begin a new chapter in our lives. Our farm has been leased out to a company that will keep it organic. We wish them all the best in their new venture here.

04.01.2022 2021 Fonterra Share Dairy Farmer of the Year Award. The 2021 Fonterra Share Dairy Farmer of the Year Award was won by Jeffrey Gijsbers and Monique Mulder. They ...are 50:50 share farming at Black River in North-West Tasmania where they milked 725 cows on the 260-ha milking platform in 2019-20. Jeffrey and Monique each moved to Tasmania from Europe looking for an opportunity to embark on a career in the dairy industry. Little did they know how successful their dreams of a long term career and future in the industry would become. They have quickly grown their dairy business from humble beginnings, starting out as farm employees, progressing to farm managers, sharefarmers then to farm ownership over a 10-year period. They have made the most of that opportunity through knowing what they want to achieve and working hard to achieve their goals. They are a great example of what is possible with in the dairy industry. Jeffrey and Monique have achieved all this through retaining and owning livestock and now have a dairy herd of around 1200 cows.

02.01.2022 Friday MicroAdventure: an impromptu trip to Bendigo Art Gallery to see the Mary Quant exhibition On the way home we stopped and admired the hay bale art sout...h of Pyramid Hill near the former town of Mologa (now just a locality). Met Denise Leed, Nick Marlow and Dorothy Kaye and learnt the story behind the art... the hay bale soldiers represent the young men from Mologa who enlisted and fought for their country in World War One. Of the 28 soldiers who left Mologa to serve in World War I, 10 were killed. Denise’s late husband Allan wanted to commemorate the young men from Mologa (including two of his uncles) using hay bale art. Nick’s Great Grandfather was one of five Marlow brothers that signed up. Of the five brothers who went to war only two survived and returned home. Lest we forget See more
