There's been some pretty dark times in our nation's past, racism is not a new phenomenon, deeply intertwined with our early history this roll top desk is an example of how it was deemed a virtue. Here is a very handsome, nicely proportioned roll top desk, made of picked timbers,skillfully craft made, clearly built to be worked hard with design austerity only conceding to utility. Every thing about this desk is pleasing, even the brass feruled shaft in the ...bottom two filing drawers, one thing casts an ugly shadow. On the base board of the first drawer on the right hand side in smudgey ink is " Manufactured by F & K Cox and Co. PTY LTD Racecourse rd Newmarket European Labour Only" This was a response to Chinese immigrants who were manufacturing furniture at cheaper prices and greater volume than previously offered by the manufacturing trade. The manufacturing trade responded by appealing to the inbuilt public societal racism of the time with smudgy ink stamps inside drawers. If I not seen it, I would have thought this roll top desk one of better roll tops I've seen, and one of the nicest ones I have had, a bit tatty here and there but, handsome and simple in design and clearly a desk that it would be a pleasure to work at. $1980 See more

It features 10 interior drawers and a lockable cupboard plus four large drawers for storing larger items. 08.01.2022 HANDS DOWN THE BEST ONE I'VE HAD Big statement from a man who has have a lot of stuff. Here is a very handsome nicely proportioned demi lune table, made in the Georgian style, it is exactly what I would want to see: in proportion, choice of timbers, mode of manufacture and skill of finishing. and it has a lovely little quirk, between the back two legs, is another. But not just any old leg, this leg has a drawer attached to it. Yes, a drawer. very cleverly, this drawer runs on a rail that allows it to slide out smoothly and still be stiff enough to support the table when opened. And it works too! I like demi lune tables, they're compact, interesting, functional, reasonably easily moved and when opened become a table to seat four for cards or dinner. and I think the band of figured veneer on the frieze is cute too.
