22.01.2022 WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE SCALES? Follow @antidiet_dietitian Is not the scales fault, you dont have to ditch the scales, you have to take ownership and change the way you see the numbers on the scale in a wiser way!... SCALES CAN be a great tool to help monitor progress & track #weightloss But if you dont have the proper mindset, they may also be detrimental tools that cause people issues such as OBSESSION, #DEPRESSION, SELF SABOTAGE, MISERY, DEMOTIVATION I’ve seen this, and very often it happens to patients that are expecting just a drop or to see a number change However, there is a significant amount of literature suggesting improved outcomes when using self monitoring techniques. These can include monitoring your diet, monitoring your weight & monitoring your exercise programme. When you monitor your progress you get immediate feedback on if something is working which can reinforce beneficial behaviours. Monitoring frequently could be associated with greater adoption of beneficial behaviours. Again, some people don't like doing this. The idea of weighing themselves or monitoring their diet frequently might feel outrageously stressful or anxiety provoking If you experimented weighing daily you may find your relationship with the scales improve if you remove the emotional aspect of it. Thus you get used to seeing fluctuations & eventually they stop bothering you... try that! IF you suffer from anxiety or eating disorder, this approach may not be appropriate for you BE AWARE of what works & doesn't work for you Analogy: If you checked your bank account daily & notice your spending gets a little high, you can decide to reduce it. If you see it immediately you can fix it right away. But if you only checked your bank account occasionally, when you look at your statement you are paralyzed. Remeber it's just a f#%ing number IT'S JUST DATA You are more than the number on the scales STOP LETTING THAT NUMBER DEFINE YOUR SELF WORTH USE IT WISELY Lets have a discussion in the comments How do you find the scales? do you weigh yourself regularly? If so, do you find it beneficial? See more
