18.01.2022 Congratulations to Cullen Trotter for both your excellent demonstration of the 1st kyu grading requirements, and turning 21 this week. You have worked really hard for this test and it showed on the night. Now onwards and upwards.

17.01.2022 We've had lots of enquiries about returning to training. We are currently on track to start our adults class on Thursday the 16th and Aiki-kids returning on Saturday the 18th of July. We hope everyone is enjoying a safe and relaxing holiday and we look forward to getting back to the art of aikido.

17.01.2022 So we have made the tough decision to cease Aiki-kids class at the Onami Dojo. The safety of our students was the primary factor in this decision. Unfortunately we couldnt see a way to proceed and meet the social distancing recommendations of health experts. We will continue to monitor the advice coming from health authorities and hope it will be safe to return to training soon.

17.01.2022 Some recent grading pics from our aiki-kids class. Congratulations on all of your achievements, I am proud of you all.

16.01.2022 Look at how the master Scabbard maker Mr. Ishizakis carves the inside of the scabbard, making a hole which fits the shape of the blade! The video was shot at ...Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum Saya are made from honoki (Japanese big-leaf magnolia), left to dry naturally for 10 years. Honoki is the best material for saya as it does not harm blades, avoids Yani (resin) as well as magnetism. The shape of the blade is copied onto the inside of the honoki, and various chisels are used to carve out the shape. The hole for securing the hilt (tsuka) and the tang are also aligned with the tang hole. Master Ishizaki said "After 50 years work, I finally find my work exciting as I see my skill improving." https://www.okayama-japan.jp/en/spot/1073 See more

15.01.2022 On behalf of the senseis, students and families of the Onami Dojo, I would like to send prayers and love to the Wife of our Senei, Valerie Williams and to all of the Williams family. 10.01.2022 Hi folks, well keep running classes as long as schools are open. We are monitoring advice from the government and ask that anyone who is showing flu like symptoms stays home. As always practice good hygiene when working closely with other people. We have soap and water for hand washing at the basin. If youve recently returned from overseas or been in contact with a known carrier of covid-19 carona virus we ask that you dont train for a fortnight, (and its probably a good idea for you to get tested).

10.01.2022 Great last class for 2019. We had the pleasure of grading Weekiat to first kyu, and no Christmas party at Onami will ever be complete without Craigs homemade ice cream.

10.01.2022 Hey aiki-kids, reminder Senei is on holiday for a few weeks, (much needed). Training resumes with Sundara Sensei on the 18th of May.

10.01.2022 Congratulations Glenn and Kailan, looking good in those new yellow belts.

02.01.2022 Hi everyone! April and May are very interesting months for Sensei Sharma and Tats. Here is a calendar with all the dates so that you can refer to it each week if need being. Thank you for your understanding and we will see you on the mat.

02.01.2022 Friend of the Onami dojo, Trevor Kase, is running this training program that is especially tailored to help students transitioning to high school, or for any students who have suffered bullying or could use a confidence boost. My children have attended in the past, and will again this year. The program was very empowering for them. -Sharma.
