25.01.2022 Shhhhhhh I don't like to say this out loud......but it is November...... Its summer who are we kidding, with summer comes increased power usage. We are located in Townsville, North Queensland, during summer we certainly use the good old Air-Cons to the max! Let's face it, it doesn’t just affect the north anymore there have been heatwaves in the southern cities over the last few years too! I haven’t even mentioned the summer storms yet.....you know those pesky little things... called cyclones....or just a plain wild storm, fallen power lines, floods etc. What about electrical surges and brownouts....? Let’s not mention Joe citizen who decides to take out a power pole - now that can happen any time of the year! An investment in a good UPS is your friend here. By implementing an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) (a battery backup is a UPS) you are able to avoid the risk of losing unsaved data or harming the expensive electronic equipment. They will continue to run your critical systems for a period of time and then safely shut the equipment down to prevent unexpected power loss. The length of time the UPS runs for is dependent on power load and battery capacity. We can then program the UPS to automatically shut down your system in a safe manner so that when power is restored, all systems are good to go without any dramas. There are many UPS on the market, they vary in proficiency - how much value do you place on keeping your system running and getting back up quickly after such an electrical event?

22.01.2022 Although we are of course digital, I do like to write my thoughts down, there is something therapeutic about the written word. I am not a planner, I need to be, it is not my strong point, I invested in the 2020 Life Designer - Work + Life Planner and have not looked back. Looking forward to 2021 being a MUCH better year than 2020 (lets face it it cannot be hard!), invest in yourself or a colleague, your employees, family member or friends - purchase a (or a few...) Life Designer - Work + Life Planner. A thoughtful gift that will last the whole year Have a look an amazing deal currently too. There is plenty to do in the lead up to 2021 - intrigued.....?

22.01.2022 Transitioning back to the Office.... Working from home is a very freeing experience. Going from your home office back to the cubicle not so much. One minute youre happily working away in your pyjama uniform with the whole day stretched out in front of you. The next, youre watching the clock from your gray, windowless office, feeling constricted in your slacks and missing your pet. But plan accordingly and it really doesnt have to be a tough transition. (Though, we hate t...o break it to you, you will have to put on shoes and not of the slipper variety.) Looking to ease back in? We dont blame you. After getting a much-needed haircut, its time to dust off that button down and prepare to make your pilgrimage back to the office. These transition tips will help you hit your in-office flow state in no time. Figure out a schedule and stick to it! Work hours been a little flexible as of late? Nows the time to get a head start on creating a more formal routine. Focus on your sleep schedule first - Once youre headed back to the office, youll again have to account for a morning commute, which likely means waking up much earlier than youve probably become accustomed. Before that happens, start to slowly train yourself to awaken earlier and earlier by gradually setting your alarm back by 15 minutes each day for at least a week. This should help ease you into the change. You may also want to skip that extra Netflix episode and get to bed by a certain time. Keep in mind that the blue light emitted by your phone and other electronic devices can disrupt your bodys internal clock. To ensure you sleep soundly, try implementing a screen curfew 30 minutes to an hour before your scheduled bedtime. Make a list of "back in office" duties and follow them! Your first few days back in the office may prove the most difficult to focus. Expect at least some in-person meetings, but try to avoid over-scheduling yourself with appointments. Instead, stave off overwhelm by keeping a running list of to-dos to help you stay on task. Prioritise your duties by most-to-least important and tackle whats pressing when your energy is highest. Be strategic and group tasks together that naturally flow from one to the other. Remember to be gentle with yourself, too. There are only so many hours in a day, and no one expects you to do it all at once. Ask for help when you need it and delegate where you can. Keep those sanitary best practises because, pandemic! This time has left an indelible mark on our lives and our sanitation habits! Taking these back into the office with you can help keep germs at bay all year long.

21.01.2022 Many people are still working from home. Learning a new platform like One Drive can take time - like all things - unless you are a teenager...they seem to be all over it... Need collaboration with coworkers on a document? Too easy. To edit with your coworkers, first sign in to Microsoft 365. Select OneDrive. Open a Word document, Excel workbook, or PowerPoint presentation. Select Share, enter the email addresses of the people to share with, and select Send. Now the file... is shared with everyone on your list. Now this bit is cool! Chat within a shared Word doc!!!! Collaborate even more closely while co-editing a document. When editing a shared Word doc in Microsoft 365, select the picture of someone whos editing at the same time, and then select Chat. This may end up being about the latest Netflix best series to watch, but who is going to tell the boss...another form of keeping communication alive and ticking - workplace relations right........ 19.01.2022 Ok, hands up.....whos back is broken from working from home..... Yes, I have to confess, I still do not have the right set up at home....! Thats a pretty big confession, but in my defense it is just my chair that is failing me. BUT ohhhhh it is not JUST a chair is it!! We sit in that chair for a long time each day. And lets face it (another confession) I for one am not getting any younger! ... As you would expect (and hope).... all over the tech set up! Tick, tick.... headset is working, have multiple screens, printer works, NBN is on fire, VoIP phones work like we are all in the office, desk is fab (Si built me a new one recently, hows that for timing!). But am crippled at the end of the day... CHAIR!!! So. Goes to show. The investment in office chairs is a good one. Guess I shall be having a little shopping spree! Are you set up properly at home? No, not connection to your companies server / cloud..... I am talking about human connection. It is vital to stay connected to friends and family during this time and there is no better time than now to do that. Yes, we cannot meet for a backyard BBQ, or go out for dinner, but we can still stay connected. How lucky are we, we live ...in an age were we have Social Media and all the goodies that that provides. Eat the same food - Agree on some recipes - go all out - Entree, Main , Dessert - perhaps have a score for best presentation! Or order the same takeout service (plan for same time delivery). Plan your drinks - Perhaps go for a new cocktail shake and mix together, or share a nice bottle of bubbly Extend the evening - no need to stop when dinner is over. How about some word games or Charades...... Play some music, have a dance.... 05.01.2022 Happy Australia Day I am an immigrant. I came to Australia in 1996 from the UK with Si, for one year...... We still call Australia home. Si already had dual nationality, his mum is a Brisbane girl. But I arrived on a holiday visa, then a working visa, then a temporary visa, then a permanent visa and yep you guessed it, then an Aussie Citizen!! 04.01.2022 What would you do to stop your business's Reputation from going down the sink......? I am thinking quite a lot! A business is as only as good as it's reputation after all. At a recent Athena Wisdom Mastermind group, one of the task questions was 'What do others in the group think my business purpose is?'. It was quite interesting to get an insight from others as to what they thought our business did and did not do. ... I liked one of the response's - 'You save my business's Reputation' - How I ask.....? Security was the reply. Admittedly it has been a yell across the office and one of our techs have supplied this oh so helpful tool to prevent me loosing my text. Undo a mistake and redo if you make a mistake undoing it! This can be done multiple times. ... CTRL + F : Search for Text Need to find something specific within a document? Search for text, use it to replace a word that appears multiple time in a document - change to replace option. CTRL + SHIFT + T : Restore Closed Browser Tab Yep - another favourite. Accidentally closed a tab? Restore it quickly and easily with this one. CTRL + SHIFT + V : Paste as Plain Text Use this one to paste your copied text as plain text, it will pick up the formatting within your document. Windows Key + M : Minimise All Windows Guilty! Yes I have too many tabs and windows open, get told off all the time - it uses resources of the computer in the background whilst it sits there doing nothing,,,,hmpffff. That was not the tip, just a heads up, that is may be a reason your computer is slower sometimes.... Minimise all quickly to get back to your desktop.
