18.01.2022 COVID-19 Testing I would like to clarify the current guidelines regarding COVID testing. Test and treat as positive (until result returns):... Patients who have returned from overseas within the last 14 days, AND have respiratory symptoms and or fever Patients who has had contact with a known COVID positive case AND have respiratory symptoms Patients with severe respiratory illness (requiring ventilatory support: high flow nasal O2, non-invasive ventilation, intubation) irrespective of travel of contact: List as a Priority test in clinical notes on the request and follow up with a phone call to microbiologist on call. Health care worker with respiratory symptoms AND a fever >37.5 (no contact or travel required). List as a Priority test in clinical notes on the request and follow up with a phone call to microbiologist on call. Patients who have returned from overseas in the last 14 days or been in contact with a known COVID-19 positive patient who are being admitted with a non-respiratory illness should be tested and treated as positive until the test returns Current turnaround times for COVID tests remains up to 72 hours, with priority tests somewhat quicker. "Contact" is defined as: > 15 minutes face to face or > 2 hours in a confined space. Staff who have PPE on and are in contact with positive patients are NOT considered to have had contact Any patient who has a COVID test who has been admitted needs to be isolated and barrier nursed until test returns negative. It’s important we test as per guidelines, as testing kits are limited and isolation and barrier nursing has significant operational implications. Given the fluidity of the situation these guidelines may change, so please keep abreast of updates.

07.01.2022 Appointments at Oncology Clinics Victoria are still operating as usual. Our patients health and wellbeing are very important to us so if you have been feeling unwell or have been overseas within the past 2 weeks please call the rooms on (03) 9592 3178 and do not attend the clinic for your scheduled appointment.

06.01.2022 Some good news: Since commencing testing asymptomatic staff for COVID-19 at Cabrini Hospital, we have had an extraordinary uptake. Almost 1500 staff have been tested and, so far, there have been NO positive results. A safe place to be!
