25.01.2022 Privacy and information. When working with agencies that help to support you, often we require some personal information to deliver these supports. This personal information is extremely sensitive, and agencies have a legal obligation to maintain your privacy.... Agencies should never share your information without your permission, the only exception being if someone at the agency hold a serious belief that you may be at risk. By law, agencies have to maintain records for 7 years before they can destroy information. This is because there may be a time in the future where you or a mandatory body may request information. All this information must be treated with extreme care, under lock and key or password protection to make sure your information is kept safe and secure. You are able to access this Information at any time, you can do this either by contacting the agency or organisation directly, or by making a freedom of information request, which basically means you request the government directly to access the information you're after. You can find more information on all of the above by click the following links: https://ovic.vic.gov.au//make-a-freedom-of-information-re/ https://www.ndis.gov.au//n/sharing-participant-information https://www.oaic.gov.au/priva/australian-privacy-principles

19.01.2022 Complaints and feedback. Those three words alone are enough to make most people feel uncomfortable, whether it's giving or receiving complaints and feedback it's a topic many people feel confronted by. But the reality is, feedback and complaints are an opportunity for improvement!... And agency, organisation or business have avenues in place to ensure complaints and feedback are handled in a timely manner. And if your concerned that your feedback hasn't been taken seriously, you can always persue it further! We mentioned in a previous post that advocacy groups are a great avenue for helping with this process if you don't feel comfortable persuing it on your own. And feedback also included positive feedback! Informing and agency or organisation of what they have done right can be just as important as informing them of what they have done wrong. It's participants that drive supports and agencies, your input in invaluable! Here at One Choice, you can provide complaints or feedback directly via email at: [email protected]

09.01.2022 What exactly are human rights? The United Nations set out a standard that determines the rights of every single person, from there, nations (Like Australia) expand upon those rights in their own laws. These are important standards that everybody should know. The first article of the Charter for Human Rights states:... "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." If you would like to find out more information about human rights, and how they effect you both as an individual and as an NDIS participant, you can find more information here: https://www.un.org///universal-declaration-of-human-rights https://www.vic.gov.au/charter-human-rights-and-responsibil
