01.01.2022 Introducing a coronavirus policy at work might mean temperature checks and people with symptoms being asked to stay home. So what are the rules about being sent... home from work? Both employers and employees have legal obligations to support workplace health and safety. Employees can be directed to leave work if they’re sick or displaying coronavirus symptoms. Employers can direct an employee to do this if the employer's decision is reasonable and based on factual information about health and safety risks. This includes relying on the Australian Government’s health and quarantine guidelines. If an employee’s directed to stay home in these circumstances, they need to take their accrued sick leave or some other form of leave (like annual leave) to be paid for this time. JobKeeper employees are entitled to the minimum JobKeeper payment as usual during this time. If an employee doesn't have any accrued paid leave available, they might be able to take unpaid leave. https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au//sick-and-carers-leave
