25.01.2022 Sometimes I play this crazy little game . It’s called Mum. In that game the children come to dinner when called, they are careful not to interrupt when I’m on the phone, the boys put the toilet seat up and down as required, the bath towels are hung up to dry, feet stay off the furniture, help is gratefully dished out for farm jobs and the little darlings all toddle off to bed with shiny pearly whites without protest

25.01.2022 Serendipity; that moment when you find the perfect branch laden with wattle; or when a malleable white wire frame lies stranded roadside, just waiting, waiting for your deft touch. Waiting for you.

24.01.2022 After much ado, they’ve finally named me Mooooo-se. I’m the newest addition to the brood @netherhill_farm. Rumour has it I’ll have to pay my way and might even have to smile through a photoshoot or two. In the next shot you’ll find my mum Lamington, doing just that back in 2018 for @countrystylemag with Meg and Gus. @markroperphotography , styling @lee_blaylock . More in stories . @ Nether Hill Farm

22.01.2022 Friday night comfort food around the fire. Sid’s made pierogi for the first time, we’re hoping my grandmother would approve. She’d roll in her grave if she saw Sid’s long hair , so a bowl cut might be on the cards before we head back to school next week . I’m a bit late to post this because between helping roll out dough , I’ve been doing a year 8 science project on cell structures . @ Australia

22.01.2022 Determined not to let restrictions get in the way, @gatheredsa set up an innovative way to experience their iconic design market. At 10am this Saturday the virtual doors will open, featuring local artisans, makers and creatives. As part of the two day event, we are so delighted to be able to offer @netherhill_farm as a virtual venue, giving you a unique opportunity to shop and tour our spaces and gardens from the comfort of your home. You can find the Gathered Market link in the bio. I’ll be there, with Bunty by my side and coffee in hand . courtesy Sutton Productions for Emily & Trent

19.01.2022 Thank you for your heartfelt comments in relation to my earlier post, it’s been a big week. Slowly realising that life and death seem so intrinsically entwined . Just on sunrise today, with the mercury on zero, our pet cow Lamington, gave birth to a healthy chocolate brown calf. He is absolutely delicious and we are over the moon. Taking tabs on a name ....early days but we think it’s a boy !??? Image via #pinterest

17.01.2022 It’s not everyday a horse is part of the wedding party.....and not any old horse ....a horse called Sid. Here he is, meeting Sid, the kid. More of this beautiful day in stories

17.01.2022 Back in 1999 we bought an old orchard on ten acres, 10km from where we are now. There was no real garden other than 4 enormous roses that probably predated the cottage, one daisy bush, a massive agave and the most magical oak tree. I had no clue about gardening and despite taunts from Adrian that the plants all suffered an identity crisis because I moved them so often, I quickly became addicted . The garden here @Netherhill_farm is different. For one, it’s very established, but like those early days, it gives me the same pleasure, inspires me everyday and there’s still plenty of opportunity to move a plant of three. The garden has been enjoyed by many over the years and is available for wedding ceremonies, parties, photoshoots or anything in between.

16.01.2022 Morning! A moment from yesterday’s wedding prep.....currently under the covers and working out how I can work this fast in real-time .

16.01.2022 Note to self .

15.01.2022 ....life without regrets! #wordsviapinterest

14.01.2022 My body double is already knee deep in exam study but has promised to help muck out the chicken coop, the perfect distraction from trigonometry. While I wait, I’ve been enjoying the virtual market @gatheredsa and a 3D tour of @netherhill_farm open now and tomorrow until 4pm. Head over to link in the bio.

14.01.2022 Today. Just a few kilometres from @netherhill_farm , an abundance of native flora respond to the soaking spring rains and thrive in the understory. I’d refrained from foraging here last summer. It didn’t seem the right thing to do . Until now, I had regretted not stealing a bloom in the hope of spreading the seeds and bringing the beauty back. But nature knows best. It didn’t need me. It didn’t need human intervention . Nature seems to have a resilience and ability to recover that we humans can only aspire to. #bushfirerecovery

13.01.2022 Even if it hurts , don’t the best views come after the hardest climb? #findyoureverest

12.01.2022 Things around here have settled back into their normal rhythm, punctuated by the school run and a few too many chocolate biscuits. There’s a sense of optimism in the air with event enquiries finally kicking back into gear. Now all I have to do is keep my fingers out of the cookie jar.

12.01.2022 Just me and the girl tomorrow as school heads back .

12.01.2022 There are always favourite bits when we host an event or wedding @netherhill_farm, this weekend was no exception. Yes, there were a few compromises to keep us all COVID Safe. Luke and @kristy.vianello, had planned to marry last April, so with some adjustments, guests enjoyed a sit down menu courtesy of @the_taste_of_spain, @letmeplatteryou and the cutest drinks van @grainandvesper . Adored the wintery styling ....charcoals and rusts.....boys in bow ties and braces.....the dreamiest newlyweds......smokey skies under festoon lights (courtesy of some wintery weather), .......lots of laughter and .....wedding cake made from Guinness! I craved for a morsel more today. Big thanks to all who helped make this happen and committed to the current restrictions.

10.01.2022 Proverb : woman that wears many hats gets sore head.

08.01.2022 Over the weekend the much anticipated maiden voyage of a gifted dinghy departed from the shores of @netherhill_farm. So while the children are planning yabby hauls and fishing nets I’m dreaming floral installations and dreamy afternoons on the pond. All we need now is a damsel in distress , a romantic proposal and any bride brave enough to negotiate the muddy flats. Any takers?

08.01.2022 Little dreams......I’ve got a few. Failed miserably over summer with growing seeds for even a small crop of flowers but I’ve got a in my bonnet and what better time than #now to start working on those dreams. I enlisted some reluctant helpers today to turn the soil. We didn’t get much done but it’s a fabulous start and somehow just starting on a dream, no matter how small, feels like we’re moving in the right direction. #springprep the dreamy autumn garden @theroseandradish

07.01.2022 You wrap your walls around me. You make me feel safe. Your chimneys warm my body, your garden fills my soul. The wind is but a whisper, behind your stone facade. The etchings in the corner, remind me of the past. That wonky little door, with its quirky little bend, it annoyed me everyday, until just then . As autumn falls to winter, I watch your ground turn green . I can’t forget the blackened earth, it’s pressed against my mind. You test me out, you push me hard, you make a better me. The story in the ceiling , perhaps a guarantee , of the love you’ll find here , underneath this roof. You teach me how to embrace the now and find the time to sing. I want to shake things up and make you part of me , but you will surely teach me that home is the place to be.

03.01.2022 Sunday afternoon in front of the fire .

02.01.2022 Puppy lesson number 1 : Dog that eats homemade playdough ends up in the doghouse .

02.01.2022 Hudson has been a familiar and much loved face here @netherhill_farm but last weekend things didn’t seem quite right. He wasn’t social distancing and appeared to be drinking excessively. That seemed strange, #koalas are usually fairly shy. So we enlisted some help from local volunteers to check him out. His pads had recovered from minor #bushfire burns, but tests revealed Hudson had acute renal failure and the tough decision to euthanise him was made. It’s a cruel blow for our local wildlife. So we’re fixing our hearts on surprising news that Lamington, our pet cow, is now within days of having a calf. We wait anxiously . It’s time for a happy ending .

01.01.2022 There is no doubt the passage of time heals but it won’t bring back the 150 year old oak tree that the children loved to climb, or the 3 billion animals that were killed or displaced during this summer’s bushfires. It won’t bring back Lisa and Don’s home, ‘Hope’ the koala, Angie’s flock of sheep or Tina’s family heirlooms. In the Spring edition of @salifepublications Garden & Outdoor Living I talk to the delightful Amanda Stewart about the role the garden @netherhill_farm played in our recovery and the way it inspires me everyday. You can subscribe to @salifepublications via the link in the bio or find a local newsagency near you. This weekend I’ll be planting five little acorns, dreaming about their future and flicking through this edition of @salifepublications in the glorious sunshine . Happy gardening @ Nether Hill Farm

01.01.2022 Remember the good old days ....... when we could eat together, celebrate, hug and kiss!
