24.01.2022 To say 2020 was a rough year is to truly diminish the hardship so many small business owners and individuals went through (and mostly still experiencing). If there is one thing to take away from 2020, it is the proof of a strong supportive community that has each other's back. Despite the constant second-guessing of the anti-mask crowd, despite the rise of backyard epidemiologists, despite the whining of a select group of hospitality doyens; we stood firm, stuck to the rules... and looked outside our own situation to find others more in need. We shopped online, we kept it local, purchased takeaway dinners and joined in any number of virtual experiences (let's face it, it's not quite the same!). We know that the change in a calendar year doesn't kill a virus, reduce the risk of fire, or find a staff member, but now that we know what we are capable of, we can enter into 2021 chin held high, shoulders back, confident that as a community, nothing can break us.

10.01.2022 The difference is not always clear. It's easy to assume that with restrictions eased in regional Vic, that the out-of-towners are in a far better position than Metro Melbourne. The truth though is that so many regional businesses and workers rely heavily on metro visitors for their source of income. ... From restaurants, cafes, pubs, bakeries, cellar doors and the huge network of farmers and distributors who provide them with their produce. Bed & breakfasts, boutique hotels, short-term rentals and the hardworking gardeners, linen providers & property managers that service them. Bookshops, surf schools, tour buses, retailers, galleries and the many, many artists, makers and producers that turn up to the country markets each weekend. Let's not even mention the hundreds of people who have spent the last 18 months planning and un-planning regional events and festivals and the artists, performers, stage-hands and roadies who miss out on doing their thing (whoops). It's too hard to think of everyone else's situation when your own is so dire. The only thing one can do is to be kind. and get a vaccine. actually, best if you do both.

10.01.2022 The newest kid on the block, Elderbar and Eats is slinging brekky, all day lunch and dinner and live acoustic tunes on weekends. Sound good?
