25.01.2022 Beach life according to Mother Nature...
24.01.2022 As a whole, modern humans in the first world have never been so unhappy and discontent, so what's it all about? What would happen if we replaced attachment with acceptance? If we saved our "thinking" brain for planning and organising instead of wasting energy analysing others' nuances or behaviour and taking things personally? If we just got on with the business of doing and taking positive action without focussing on goal-orientated outcomes? If we thought about and consider...ed others as much as we think about and consider ourselves! I bet the outcome would be great! We are back on the mat for Term 2 tomorrow (Monday) with all new sequences as well as our new 4-wk beginners' program starting next week (7th May). Click on the link to check details on all sessions and book in (no need to book in for casuals). It's time to stop thinking and start doing because essentially, that is Karma - it's the yoga of action... http://yogasphere.com.au/classes/
24.01.2022 Healthy, warm breakfast ideas for cooler mornings - poached pear with fresh ginger, medjool dates, blueberries and chia with a blob or two of coconut yogurt.
23.01.2022 One of the most well known and highly regarded yoga teachers in Australia, Eve Grzybowski, is coming to the Bay for a day of yoga in November. Why not make a weekend of it and create your own boutique retreat?
20.01.2022 So if you were to gather some of your girlfriends for a healthy, fun and relaxing weekend away or a hen party (like these girls in the picture) what would you like to do? A bit of yoga and meditation perhaps? Maybe a bush walk or an easy guided mountain bike ride? A surf lesson? An on-site massage or beauty treatment? Most definitely some yummy food to finish off a perfect day. One Mile Retreat property easily accommodates 8-12 adults. Design your own retreat package and do as much or as little as you want.
18.01.2022 Walks along beautiful Birubi Beach with endless views of sand dunes.
16.01.2022 Great place to relax and unwind..
16.01.2022 Namaste to all you yogis out there! We are on a break now for two weeks of school holidays but will be back to normal schedule on Monday 30th July - which means... only one month (give or take before), we can put our short winter to bed again until next year... Our next sequence targets the hips and will end up making a MASSIVE difference to stiffness in this area, as well as improving mobility of the trunk - without the pressure and tension involved in constant over-stretching. Watch this space in case of any random sessions and check out the dates for our next set of courses. Next sessions are a little shorter as I am off to the UK in September so a great time to give things a whirl if you have never tried before. http://yogasphere.com.au/timetable/
16.01.2022 Out early book-in price for our amazing day retreat will expire over the next few days. Check this awesome review of Joanna Atherfold Finns book from the Weekend Australian. https://www.theaustralian.com.au//9b988d18018d76a64840a60e
14.01.2022 Okay so Kate and I are pretty damn chuffed with ourselves since we set the camera up and leapt into this acroyoga flying pose in less than 10 seconds. Sand dunes helped since it was a little like the scene in Dirty Dancing but at least if my leap of faith had been a bit off, the landing would have been soft (ish!). Spectacular up here today!
13.01.2022 Happy Monday all, a brief reminder that next Monday, 3rd September, will be my last day of classes until the kids go back in October for Term 4. Yes! We are alm...ost there already.. Long-term Iyengar teacher and practitioner, Vim Lane, will be doing classes for the remainder of the term, on Thursdays - a drop-in at 10am and a four-wk course session in the evenings. Click on the link to book in - $55 for the four weeks. Some of my students have asked me what the difference is and what if they dont like it...etc etc...OMG What if!!! So here are my thoughts from a "yogary" perspective. Westerners "labelled" variations of physical yoga practises and categorised them into neat little genres. We are still doing it because cant help ourselves despite the fact that "being" yoga has nothing to do with labelling. Iyengar described what he was teaching as..."yoga". But lets get back to the labels: Like / dislike - its an observation, its irrelevant, its neither here nor there. Perhaps if we all let go a little of being preoccupied with thoughts of good/bad/like/dislike/happy/unhappy, we might start to feel a bit more liberated. Yoga is not about exercise or postures, it teaches us about life and how to live a more functional existence. Most of dont enjoy housework, but we do it anyway. It is what it is. My very first yoga class experiences were taught from Iyengars perspective, at the age of 16 at the Australian School of Yoga in Bondi and then later on with "Ros" at Tamarama SLC in 1994. I am surmising that Iyengar noted how stiff most Westerners were, how hard it was for most of them to practise the poses and so began using props so that it was possible to create an experience of a posture when all was perfectly aligned. This means of course, there is no flow and poses are held for longer. But yoga is yoga and here we have an opportunity to enquire a little more deeply into our physical body. Some also might say that the Iyengar tradition suits people who are new to yoga, who have injuries and who are older perhaps. This may be true, certainly if there is difficulty moving in and out of poses. However, from my perspective, as someone with a naturally, busy little mind who has always loved movement and dance, discovering vinyasa yoga was incredible and really did change my life. It became a dynamic meditation for me and it still is. So, in that sense, Iyengar yoga was not a beginners practise for me because it required patience and stillness - something I have really had to work towards! I do like to think that these days I might find an Iyengar based practise easier because (hopefully), my "yoga" has evolved and I can "sit with it". But there you have it. Dont over think it because in yoga we describe "tapas" as being "burning enthusiasm", or the ability to always do your best, to do it anyway, without attachment to ideas or ideals of success or failure. http://yogasphere.com.au/timetable/

09.01.2022 When you practise from a modern-perspective (that is, taking into consideration, the limitations of a typical" Western, stiff-hipped body), but ALWAYS from a more traditional, therapeutic view-point, regular yoga is transformative on every level. After more than 10 years of Yoga classes, and following a total hip replacement, MD ditched yoga thinking rehab would be quicker at the gym. It didnt work though, and MD became quite frustrated with her slow recovery. She told me ...that coming back to class this term finally helped to reduce the inflammation and pain (stemming from a post-surgery impinged psoas) as well as improving mobility. She says, "Although I do have a few limitations..[Nikki] aways has an easier variation on offer". Yes, and we can offer you extensions and add-ons when you are ready for them too. Its YOUR practise after all! All new sessions begin Monday, 14th October. You can book your spot here: https://yogasphere.com.au/timetable/

Or maybe youd like to run up and down two or three times... Or perhaps, just maybe, youd like to slow down, relax and unwind. Perhaps youd like to simply experience-the-experience without any other particular goal in mind...
