18.01.2022 Egg smash! I’ve been saving eggs for a few weeks now preparing for this task. You could really do anything with an egg smash today I chose letters. You could also do sight words, numbers, colours. Shapes anything! ... I paired the eggs with our salt dough alphabet so I would get Rose to choose a letter, search for it in the tray (some great matching and letter recognition). Honestly I probably only got her to do 8 letters this way. Until her patience lost out and she just wanted to smash. I still tried to get her to identify the letters before she smashed them and she probably did another 10 or so like this. Attention span at 2.75 is still an issue so I was happy with the work we did. Even happier that she focused on this activity in general for 30 mins. 18.01.2022 Today we visited the vancouver aquarium apart from seeing some great wildlife we also saw an amazing art piece regarding waste. I heard a child question what the whole thing was about to which a mother replied ‘this is showing you what happens when we littler’. She’s not wrong but it’s also not entirely the point. It doesn’t matter if you never litter plastic is still plastic and it still has to go somewhere. There were other exhibits in the aquarium that shows micro plast...ics that are in the oceans as some plastics degrade but don’t disappear. One thing that shocked me about the exhibit was the amount of balls on the wall. It never really occurred to me that most balls are made of plastic! What made me sad about the exhibit was there were not thought provoking questions or suggestions that we as consumers are the starting point for removing trash from our oceans. Yes we need supportive governments but don’t wait. Be the change you want to see. 15.01.2022 Patterns and Counting Im always looking for new ways to use our existing toys, as I’d always prefer to use what we have rather than buy new For this activity I used a set of our salt dough loose parts and some cards I printed and laminated. This was a super easy activity to set up and I see it’s one we will get to recycle over and over.... I’m currently trying to help Rose expand her counting and numeracy skills. This activity allowed her to work independently to match colours to the dots and then we worked together on counting the dots on the card. 12.01.2022 Shaving Cream We had a super fun time playing with shaving cream today! We also added some food dye for extra colour. I asked Rose what it felt like. She said like chocolate! 01.01.2022 Home Corner I set this up for Rose as she is super in love with her kitchen and felt food. I’ve always been meaning to buy a shelf for her food collection however I’ve never gotten around to it. As much as all love her Grimms rainbow it also doesn’t get a lot of playing love. So I decided to repurpose it! ... I used some extra blocks to build the height of each layer. And I’ve blue tacked some together and some to the wall so make the ‘shelf’ more sturdy.
