23.01.2022 At first glance what appears to be a simple, obvious solution is more often the result of an extensive design & manufacturing investigation. This is certainly the case with this bespoke boarding plank. The unit rolls, pivots & rotates effortlessly about a single point axle offering a no fuss solution between a motor yacht in continual motion and a static dock. Light, strong and expertly detailed by all involved, the elegant aesthetic hides the complex processes of custom carbon-foam sandwich, monocoque construction and the function of the moving parts.
05.01.2022 2019 was a busy year supplying services and products for a motor yacht refit. These fender boards were designed to protect the aft face of the newly created swim platform and to be held in place by carbon hoop rails. This custom arrangement protects the yacht from tenders and also allows for a solid hand-hold as crew & guests move between the yacht and tender. The hoop rails, fender boards & deck sockets were all bespoke design and built specifically for the motor yacht.
04.01.2022 Ease of function was top of mind when designing this 3-piece ladder, not only for those getting in & out of the water but also for crew setting up & removing for storage. The top rail is the right height to safely back into the water, the position, size and rake of the treads encourages confidence and with the bottom tread 1200mm below the waterline, getting back onboard is a comfortable exercise. When not in use the individual ladder units store in two bags. All bespoke and fabricated in carbon fiber, teak and 316 S/steel.
03.01.2022 This high table came into being during the first 6 months of 2020 and has been heavily influenced by the difficult circumstances we find ourselves. The unorthodox construction and details deliver a reminder of the complex times we now live in. The confronting visual forms combine nicely with purposeful function to indicate a new, interesting & strong outcome. Created from repaired carbon tubes, a big teak post and half of an old island bench; plus many, many COVID-19 hours.
01.01.2022 My goal for this carbon fiber low table was to not be ordinary. The top is rectangular and true, as a sensible table top should be to some extent. But sensible can be less than inspiring so the base-leg arrangement needed to be more adventurous and counter-intuitive. The end result showcases what can be achieved if the process of design doesn't exit at the first or easiest solution. All fittings were re-imagined, reconfigured & assembled from what was available in my workshop.
