24.01.2022 It’s a huge problem when respected vets cash in and endorse really poor quality pet foods. Take Dr Rob Zammit, BVSc Veterinarian for example, endorsing budget... Woolworths home brand Baxters Simple common sense tells us a pet food with such a cheap price tag is never going to be quality. Time has shown the Baxters products are far from healthy, being harmful in many cases. Any veterinarian on pet nutritionist worth their salt should be able to evaluated the ingredients in Baxters, and the reports of sickness, and deduce it’s not a product which should be endorsed. People trust vets and trust their recommendations. It only takes the odd one to sell out, throwing scruples out of the window when faced with a sizeable cheque, and to hell with all the dogs whose health suffers as a consequence. We tried contacting Dr Rob Zammit to ask about his endorsement. No response. Why are you endorsing these products Dr Rob Zammit? Respected veterinarians have a responsibility to uphold. When they don’t the results can be heartbreaking. When people ask me what foods to avoid feeding their dogs other than chocolate and grapes, I’d probably put Baxters near the top of the list. I’d definitely put it way above eggs

24.01.2022 Is that what they’re REALLY thinking!?

22.01.2022 IS THIS "FOOD"? Baxter's is made for Woolworths, it has been constantly in the news for dogs dying and getting sick after eating it and it never being recal...led. It's being spoken about again because it has a "Celebrity" Vet promoting it. Let's have a look at what's inside, these are the top 5 ingredients... 1 Meat & Meat By-products. In Commercial foods, we want to avoid By-products because this is the product nobody else wants to buy in the industry, it's the scraps and it's often transported to manufacturers in unrefrigerated trucks rancid and then is cooked to the point it can be put in dog food - that in itself is gross...your dog deserves more than rancid meat that had to be overcooked to make it safe. This food is labeled as CHICKEN however the ingredients panel shows that the by-products can be from poultry and beef. Because meat in its original form is being used and not a meal, we have to account for moisture loss, therefore post-processing, it is unlikely to be the #1 ingredient, so we have to look at the #2 ingredient as being the most predominant ingredient and that is... 2 Cereal & Cereal By-products. There's that word By-products again, the scraps of human manufacturing. We don't want cereals in our dog's food to start with, it's not appropriate, it's simply a cheap ingredient used to make cheap dog food. This food is labeled as Chicken and RICE - it doesn't even actually include "Rice", it includes these cereals that are derived from wheat and rice. 3 Tallow. This is rendered fat. 4 Bentonite. Bentonite is an aluminum silicate, which dissolves in the intestines, adding to the body’s aluminum levels, it's something that shouldn't be found in dog food. In-fact, the FDA actually frowns upon it and asked for it to be stopped. Bentonite is an anti-caking agent, it also absorbs toxins. 5 Salt. Salt cannot be added at more than 1% in dry dog foods. Anything that comes after Salt in the ingredient label is less than 1%, in this case, it includes: Potassium Chloride, Chlorine Chloride, Essential Vitamins and Minerals, Whole Linseed, Beet Pulp, Preservatives, and antioxidants. The Vitamins and Minerals are synthetic. Preservatives can be found in the ingredient panel. Baxters make a point of putting on the front of their packaging that it does not contain artificial colours or flavours but are happy to put preservatives in there which they know consumers are not comfortable with. 22% Protein - this has barely any meat in it. This protein % also includes non-meat protein. If you're feeding Baxters, my recommendation is to look at another brand and start reading ingredient labels. If you can afford to spend more than $6 for 3 kilos of food, then please do, this type of food fed long term is a worry and you could be paying for it at the Vet in the years to come. Whilst higher quality kibbles are more expensive than supermarket kibbles, your dog certainly deserves it if you can afford it. Look at Prime100, Pete Evans Healthy Everyday Pets, Stay Loyal, Lifewise, Mans best...these foods you will feed less of because they are more energy dense. These kibbles are just an example but we always recommend.... Reduce your dog's intake of dry processed food and add real fresh food in their bowl. If you'd like to learn more about fresh food feeding, join us at our supportive fresh food group: www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/ And, if you have a small dog, then it's quite affordable to feed a fresh diet, whether that be a commercial diet such as Prime100, Vets All Natural, Proudi, Dr Billinghurst, Big Dog, Leading Raw, NZ K9 Naturals, Ziwi Peak OR you make it yourself by learning how at our above mentioned fresh food group. Remember, "Celebrities" are paid to promote dog food. High-quality food doesn't need a "Celebrity" to promote it and you'll usually only see it happen in low-quality supermarket food...these Vets aren't feeding their dogs this low-quality food.

21.01.2022 Milly and Bentley looking all pretty

19.01.2022 Please note the Fresh Pet Food Co Pet Mince product available in Coles, Woolworths, and IGA contains E number E223. This sulphite preservative/chemical has show...n to reduce vitamin content in a food, a cause of intolerance, and difficult to metabolise by animals with impaired kidney function. We also note the product is comprised of kangaroo and "other meats", which makes the meat content of the food dubious. We recommend avoiding any pet mince products that contain sulphite preservatives. Fresh Pet Food Co offer similar products which do not use sulphite preservatives. 11.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a... toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. They regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Please be safe with your dogs! Use Bulletproof Pet Products. Indestructibone Chew Toys for your new chew toy!! Use coupon code Roxy1 for your discount!

10.01.2022 Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at xmas. Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoy...ing" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! Please be safe with your dogs!

09.01.2022 Christmas bandannas are up, for the whole of December your spoilt pooch will get a Christmas bandanna when you bring them to be groomed.

04.01.2022 Applaws is a pet food I would recommend as a good balance of quality and affordability. It's also one of the better options you'll find on the shelves of Woolies and Coles. Review revisited: https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry/applaws-its-all-good/
