21.01.2022 Having a made bed each morning is said to create a sense of pride with the potential for a more productive day. A made bed can also trap moisture creating a damp and warm environment, perfect for dust mites. So an unmade bed will be preferable to those who suffer dust allergies as stripping off the sheets may reduce dust mite numbers by exposing them to air and sunlight.... For those with a suspected allergy, your doctor is one place to begin investigating the cause. Once diagnosed, your doctor can recommend treatment, along with ways to manage the condition and reduce potential causes. In the case of dust mites, washing our sheets once every two weeks will keep numbers down, yet those with a dust allergy or asthma may wish to wash them more frequently. Appointments are available through the website or with our friendly reception staff on (03) 9533 2800.

15.01.2022 A daily routine of waking up to a couple of glasses of water holds many health benefits, especially after eight hours or so without fluids. Rehydrating our bodies in this way can help aid digestion, encourage bowel movement, and flush out any toxins. Continuing this habit throughout the day can contribute to kidney function and assist in weight loss. ... On a more aesthetic level, a bonus to maintaining hydration is that extra fluid may promote healthier skin and hair. The doctors of One Point Medical can assist in developing proactive measures such as this to improve your general health and wellbeing. Appointments are available through the website or with our friendly reception staff on (03) 9533 2800.

09.01.2022 We all know that diet influences our weight, but what about its potential to positively impact our health? A heart-healthy diet is one way in which we can positively influence some risk factors for heart disease. Fresh and unprocessed food like vegetables, fruit and whole grains can assist heart health further, along with various healthy protein-rich foods. There are some fantastic heart-specific health resources online, like this document from the Heart Foundation; https://www.heartfoundation.org.au/heart-hea/healthy-eating Your doctor can also supply information specific to your needs and previous medical history or refer you to specialist and allied health professionals. 08.01.2022 Currently, there is a trend overseas for doctors to have reduced involvement in pregnancy management. Australia's GPs continue to provide high-quality antenatal care, so it's no surprise we are of the safest countries in the world in which to be born or give birth. The Australian guidelines recommend that the first antenatal visit is within the first ten weeks of pregnancy, with 7 to 10 follow-up visits.... The doctors of One Point Medical can provide antenatal care that includes regular screening. This screening may detect and help prevent early complications such as pregnancy-related diabetes and hypertension. Appointments are available via the website or with our friendly reception staff on (03) 9533 2800.

02.01.2022 Quality sleep provides a solid foundation for our wellbeing. For new parents, settling newborns and infants is always a priority. Yawning is a sign of fatigue at any age, yet little ones have subtle signals that may help pick up sleep-time early.... These include pulling at the ears, closing fists, jerky leg or arm movements and sucking on the fingers. These and other cues may help to organise the settling your child for sleep before becoming over-tired. Your doctor can provide these and other suggestions, including resources to help ensure the whole family maximises their sleep. Bookings are available with the doctors at One Point Medical through the website or by calling our friendly reception staff on (03) 9533 2800.

01.01.2022 You may have noticed on the One Point Medical website that the appointments feature has changed. This forms part of some recent improvements made to the practice systems at One Point Medical. Implementing such measures aims to offer even better patient service.... At the centre of this is an integrated online booking platform called AutoMed. AutoMed not only facilitates online booking, but it also integrates with many other software features within the practice. For example, the practice now has a Kiosk at reception for self-check-in. Its function allows you to notify the doctor of arrival or register as a new patient. The kiosk also enables you to update your existing details and fill out consent forms. An app is available from Automed to download where you can perform these self-check-in features via your phone. Digital tablets are on hand to enter registration details, with all information mentioned above, directly relayed to the practice software. Staff will still be on hand to enter any of your details for you if that is preferred. Ultimately these measures of efficiency save time for everyone in both paperwork and waiting time. They also allow for reduced physical contact with reception staff as we move into the flu season, and reception staff will be taking further measures, such as wiping down all screens after use. This system update provides reception staff with the ability to send your scripts directly to pharmacies by a token - avoiding delay through postage. Further to this, the practice phones now integrate with a pop-up system that allows staff to see existing client details when they call. These pop-ups enable immediate access to your details when making an appointment and more efficient communication before and after your consultation. Automed's inclusion of a vaccine management system will help ensure in real-time, that the supply of Flu and other vaccinations is coordinated with appointment times, especially as it has a vaccine reservation function. We hope these features add to your experience at One Point Medical, and that these improvements compliment our cohesive approach to total health for both individual and family healthcare needs.
