20.01.2022 I know it’s getting close to Xmas but we are filled with capers and are running a type of pick your own. We have 1 litre tubs and picking will be assisted by us - to show you what to pick. We will provide the recipe for pickling too. You fill the 1 litre tub - which will take over an hour - and take the lot home for you to pickle for yourselves or for Xmas presents. This amount will produce at least 10 jars of 100ml size. That’s a lot of delicious capers. We will run twice we...ekly sessions during January but for the pre Xmas period we will try to squeeze people in when we can if you’re keen. Cost is $50 or in this pre-Xmas period it will cost $45. Soaking takes 3 days and be aware that the bushes are also full of bees. This is also a fun experience too so feel free to organise friends to pick. The more the merrier. #merrychristmas #capers #pickyourown #onetablefarm #regenerativeagriculture #organic #sustainability #mediterraneanfood See more
15.01.2022 One single chick but super cute. It’s a legbar (blue egg laying) barnevelder x. This hen is a great mum - she’s an Australorp. She raised the most beautiful chicken last time. She is one of those - born to be a mother - hens. It’s been nearly a whole year since we’ve had chicks and 2 years since any were mother raised. So lovely watching these girls in action. The story of the parents is an unlikely one. The rooster is named sparky. Assigned the name by my friend that incubat...ed the eggs as he required supportive fluid therapy - known as spark - to get through. He is an unusual character, but just add him to the list of weird and wonderful creatures we seem to acquire. And then the mum - bobbles. So named because of the genetic defect on her head which produces a skull bobble. She’s not normal - innocently sweet but surprisingly is the only hen that can climb the fence. Sparky can too - clearly she hangs out with him a lot - and now this unlikely couple have produced this chick. But there’s no obvious sign of a strong motherly instinct here so fortunately black hen has taken over the task. All is well in chicken land. #chickens #onetablefarm #regenerativeagriculture #legbar #sparky #bobbles #chicks #highwelfare #pastureraised See more
15.01.2022 The very last of our pumpkins - and the best. The kabocha pumpkin. Soft and sweet, bright orange and delicate. The preferred choice for tempura and actually any pumpkin dish in my opinion. I’m hoping for more this season. The amount we grew this year supplied every one of our workshops which made me happy. Thank goodness for the amount of space we have here. Very fortunate. #homegrown #kabocha #pumpkin #regenerativeagriculture @dogboyknives #organic #kitchengarden
05.01.2022 Lil heard the noise inside the fireplace first. Obviously a misstep by a young bird on the chimney outside. But due to some Labrador influence, we lost the bird into the vast space that is our ceiling. We built with high ceilings, never anticipating the need to plan for a bird catch and release. So there’s little we could do as the bird flew to the 5.5m high point. We’ve watched these birds be raised, as they have grown into full fledglings outside our back door. So all I cou...ld think to do, was to open the sliding doors wide and turn off the lights to make the outside seem more clear. To our surprise, one of the parents, who we perhaps stereotyped as the mum, flew straight in and swept the room and left. The young bird couldn’t work it out. 6 times she tried. Conversing with it the whole time. But it took both parents to come in, with a double whammy approach, to show the little guy the way out. Absolutely amazing to watch. I’ve had a lot to do with birds over the years - never seen anything like it before. #devotion #goodparenting #birds #sosmart #swallow #badlucklabrador #sentience See more
04.01.2022 Merry Christmas family and friends. Wishing for a happy, healthy, peaceful and joyful 2021.
03.01.2022 The chicken clan are out of their kitchen garden haven and out to work eating seed, clearing weeds and reducing fuel load. They didn’t waste a second. Now to keep them behind the predator proof fence and the foxes out. #Chickens #pastureraised #naturalbehaviours #dualpurpose #highwelfare #chickentractor #regenerativeagriculture #cookingschool
