18.01.2022 Healthy Holiday Hacks A lot of holiday food is unhealthy. Delicious - but unhealthy. ... And a bit of unhealthy food here and there is okay - but around the holiday season we have so many different food-focused gatherings that here and there becomes a lot more frequent. Here is a simple Holiday Hacks to help you throw a little more healthy eating back into the holiday feasting. Pay attention to portions! Not only are we eating more fatty and indulgent foods during the holidays, but we also tend to eat larger portions at holiday meals than we would at a regular meal! Choose larger portions of fresh leafy greens and vegetables and smaller portions of starchy and cheese sides. And allow yourself time to feel full before going back for seconds. Nutrition is all about making healthy choices. #oneupfitness #oneupfam #Healthandfitness #functionaltraining #fitness #graftonisgreat #nutrition #balance #grafton #training #workout #socialsaturdays #bringafriend

14.01.2022 How Gratitude Influences Your Mood Gratitude is defined as: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Psychology research has shown that experiencing and expressing gratitude is strongly (and consistently) linked to higher levels of happiness. ... Recognizing and being grateful for what you have - versus always wanting something more - allows you to feel thankful and positive about your own life. Gratitude creates positive emotions, decreases stress and depression, improves health and allows you to feel more prepared to handle the challenges in life - and relationships! With gratitude, we can recognize and relish the positive experiences in life. And we can even appreciate challenges or negative experiences and be grateful for the opportunity to grow! Only you can control your own thoughts and attitude - and those influence your mood. Choose an attitude of gratitude. I am grateful for YOU! What is one thing that you are grateful for? 08.01.2022 Not All Foods Are Created Equal The Value Of Food Outside vs. Inside The Body (Yes, It’s Different) Food helps us to look, feel, function, and live our best.... Food gives our bodies energy to live through carbohydrates, proteins and fats (macronutrients). Food also contains vitamins, minerals, water, fiber, and phyto- and zoo chemicals (nutrients found in plants and animal food sources). These things do not provide energy but without them, our bodies would break down. If we eat too little food, our bodies shut down certain functions that we do not absolutely need to survive reproduction, some aspects of metabolism, and even brain function. If we eat too much food, it can cause inflammation, hormone resistance, plaque to form on blood vessels, and blood pressure to increase. Here is what many people do not understand... Not all food is created equal for all people. There are many factors that affect how we digest, process, and use the food we eat. And the value of food outside the body is not necessarily the same as the value inside. Two people could eat the same hoagie and the way that their bodies process it on the inside is different (metabolism). Our bodies are unique and we all process food and nutrients slightly different. This is why some people do better with more or less carbohydrates, dairy, meat, etc. And that is why understanding your own body is so much more important than blindly following the latest diet or trend for a few weeks or months. #oneupfitness #oneupfam #Healthandfitness #functionaltraining #fitness #graftonisgreat #nutrition #balance #grafton #training #workout #socialsaturdays #bringafriend

06.01.2022 Tell Your Body Thanks It’s the season of being thankful and showing gratitude. We are often thankful FOR our bodies - grateful for our health, strengths, working systems etc. ... But have you ever thought about giving thanks TO your body? Sounds weird? Hear me out. Our bodies are pretty incredible. The multitude of working systems that symbiotically keep us breathing, moving, laughing, loving and living are a work of art. The problem is that sometimes caring for our bodies feels like a chore. And our society of instant gratification has somehow made the work of caring for our own bodies seem unpleasant. So I challenge you to shift your mindset. Choosing to eat healthy and give your body the nutrients that it needs is a way of saying THANK YOU to your body for all of the hard work that it does for you. Choosing to work out and exercise is a way to say THANK YOU to your heart, lungs and muscles. Making healthy lifestyle choices and focusing on wellness is a way to say THANK YOU to your mind and body for making you YOU. Look at caring for your body as an act of gratitude. Say thanks TO your body. What is one thing that you will do to say thank you to your body?

05.01.2022 How We Spend Our Time and Money Reveals What Is Important To Us Show me your calendar and checkbook (ok, online bank account), and I will tell you your values. Have you ever heard something along those lines?... If someone asked you what was important to you in life, you might say something like. Family time, kindness, tradition, faith, security, achievement, equality, justice, etc. But does our time and money REALLY reflect our values? While we all could certainly make better use of some of our time, Bill Gates said we tend to overestimate what we can get done in a short amount of time and underestimate what we can get done in a longer amount of time, like 10 years. This leads to having intentions of doing meaningful things, but running out of time because our days are filled with less-important activities (scrolling social media, mindlessly checking emails, watching videos...). Not only that, but many of us (myself included) spend a surprising amount of money on convenience food, home decor, or things from ebay. What if you invested more time and money into things that would actually change your life? Like investing in your wellbeing, your faith, or your mental health Comment below What is one thing you will invest in this week that is GOOD for your mind, body, or soul? What is one thing you could go without?

04.01.2022 Say you’ve been going hard at the gym for 3 months... you feel there’s been NO change to anything... your clothes, your energy, your mood, your sex drive... Have I got your attention yet?! You can bust your butt PHYSICALLY to try and change how you Physically look, but that’s not how the body works..... Your body is such an AMAZING engine or machine.. but when you fix the outside of an outdated machine that needs oil and tuning on the Inside, does it run smoother? I would say No.. Everything starts from the core of the problem, it’s not a HUGE problem because it still runs, but it’s not running at its ultimate capacity that it really can. Balanced Nutrition, a balanced way of living, the ultimate way for your body to get what’s best and give you everything back in return.. Energy, firing metabolism, best possible recovery for your muscles, and in the long run, help in getting you to your goal.. Which then makes you FEEL better AND THEN.. the cycle starts again.. Our Set Meal plans for our upcoming challenge are anything but restrictive, and they help in getting your mind back in on the journey instead of worrying about WHAT to eat.. They are full of nutritious food suited for families, and also have you not missing out on your favourite chocolate or ice cream because let’s face it... life is too short to cut it out.. 02.01.2022 Probiotics and Prebiotics For a Healthy Immune System You may have heard that eating healthy foods (not processed, sugary stuff), exercising regularly, and reducing stress improves your immune system. Probiotics and prebiotics also play an important role in a healthy immune system.... Prebiotics are types of plant fibers found in fruits and vegetables that stimulate growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. Probiotics are living organisms that add to the healthy bacteria in your gut. There is ongoing research that shows some probiotics may be helpful in treating irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, acne, and even eczema in children. You can find probiotics in yogurt, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kimchi - or take a probiotic supplement. Do you take a probiotic? #oneupfitness #oneupfam #Healthandfitness #functionaltraining #fitness #graftonisgreat #nutrition #balance #grafton #training #workout #socialsaturdays #bringafriend
